Something we forgot to do...

...blame the ref!

A cross was played into the penalty area, Cech went to catch, then dropped the ball, and on his way to the ground came into a collision with Jags.

The ball ended up at the feet of Johnson with an open goal. Alas the whistle was blown for a foul on Cech.

If play was allowed to continue then would the boards be so negative of our players today?

All ifs and buts I know, but it was a wrong call.

Jagielka's collision with Cech may have been enough or the foul could have been given for the contact between Lescott (?) and the defender next to the goalkeeper.

Either way, the fact remains that we simply weren't good enough in either leg and were beaten by the better team. Fine, we scramble home a goal and end up at 1-1. We still lose on aggregate...

We were reliant on set pieces last night and looking for a lucky break whereas Chelsea's threat came from moving the ball efficiently between players and opening us up on the break. Steve Bennet may have been too card happy and inconsistent as usual but we can have no complaints about the outcome, really.

Actually Lyndon it would have been 1-0 to us at that point and would have changed the game dramatically, probably not leaving Cole so open on a counter attack. But it doesn’t matter in the end.

The difference between the two sides was that Everton were always looking for a piece of luck or genius. Chelsea stuck to their game plan and in the second half they demostrated why player for player they are better side, even without their superstars, Drogba, Lampard & Terry, they were still better and stronger in every position. Lets move on now and learn from it, enough soul searching done time to move on now

It was a foul, Jags purposefully trailed his back leg to take Cech out.

We can?t blame the ref, this time we have to look closer to home.

Cech dropped it before any contact...

Lyndon did you watch the match? We’d have been 1-0 up. It wasn’t a foul. We had more possession, more shots on target and more territory. Everybody is saying how well Chelsea played, but what they mean is how well they defended and counter-attacked, even then needing to be bailed out by the goalkeeper 3-4 times and the referee, crucially, once.

Why are so many blues so determined to go with the Sky/Alan Green/David Platt/Lazy Hack verdict here.

Watch the game again. At least look at the stats.
