Pienaar - a credit to the game.

I only switched on when South Africa were hard up against it (how many 'naturalised Brazilians' are there in the world?), but I wanted to see how Steven Pienaar was getting on.

Getting on?!? Playing in an African tournament is quite different from the Prem League, but skill, awareness and attitude will always stand out. What a fine example of what is good in football he showed today, and anywhere on the field (please note for the future).

As Moyes and Co knew when they brought him to us, he was already a classy player. I'd like to think that EFC have given him something in exchange to take to his national team. All the same, Steven, please come home asap.

I must say I was very impressed with Pienaar display yesterday, despite him loosing his cool a few times. He was one of the real stars that stood out in that game. I?m just glad Pienaar will be coming back into the team. Has anyone noticed that Pienaar doesn?t go down as easily compared to when he plays for us? African football are very physical and he stepped up to the plate, this really makes me wonder! And yes, the boy is pure class.

I must say I?m quite impressed with a few players since AFCON started. Theirs some players that make guys like Dioff, Diop, Faye, Eto look pretty ordinary!
This is by far the best and competitive AFCON I?ve seen.

Despite Nigeria loosing to Ivory Coast, Yak and Yobo had great games. I can?t wait for all our Africans to report to Goodison!!

I agree that our African players are 1st class.Good luck to all of them in the AFCON but please come back quickly.
Steve Pienaar is a terrific footballer and we need him to be a full-time Evertonian asap!
All three of them are undoubtedly as good as anyone-if not better-in their positions in the Premier League. One last thing-buy Arshavin!

As much as i liked the look of Arshavin, i’d have to agree that we really still need a type of midfield enforcer. Fernandes, Pienaar and Arteta are all capable of picking out that vital pass and to be fair to especially Arteta and Pienaar they’ve worked tremendlously well to develop the physical side of their game but we haven’t got that box to box powerful midfielder i think we need. As for Pienaar i can’t wait to see him back! REALLY hope he signs up on a permanent basis.

I thought Pienaar was the stand out player for South Africa. The team as a whole don’t look very good at the moment but as it was mentioned there a work in progress. They’ll be much better in 2010 when there younger players have developed. Pienaar doesn’t look as comfortable on the right than he does on the left which is strange because he is right footed.

We do miss Pienaar. He along with Yakubu make the 4-4-1-1 formation what it is. Without Yakubu’s link up play and Pienaar energy and creativity its useless. Osman is a good player but Pienaar is better aswell as being the far better wide player.

People say Pienaar’s lightweight but I disagree. He may be small but he hasn’t looked lightweight since the Aston Villa game away. He gets stuck in, he mixes physically and is aggressive, he works his socks off and he has that little bit of nippiness about him that gets him away from his opponents.

Quality player and can’t wait to have him back. A midfield containing Arteta, Fernandes and Pienaar will be mouth watering.
