Just read on the OS that Cahill in talks with Moyes re: leaving to play for Australia and that the bottom line is it's up to Cahil.

What concerns me here is that obviously at this important stage of the season we do not want him to go, however I know he will want to.

He has not being playing well lately and has looked very tired so what would he benefit from in making the trip and more importantly what benefit to his club.

I think this could be a thorny issue with Everton and one that needs to be resolved quickly ,with Tim realising this time he has to think club first which to date he has never done.

I am not being negative more of an underlying concern I have with Tim that he could leave us with a problem, or based on recent performances the opportunity to play 442 more often, which in my opinion we cant when he is the team.

Club First Tim, stay we need the options you provide us with.

The boy is an Australian legend...there is no way he should be stopped from playing in the green & gold. Just because your own national team can’t qualify for the big tournaments, you shouldn’t try to stop others.

We should sell him, I’m getting tired of him running off to play for Australia whenever he sees fit to do so. We can easily replace him with a player who contributes more to the team, Cahill is worthless if he doesn’t score.

Good job he scores pretty frequently, then, isn’t it?

Let’s tell Manny he can’t play for Portugal in future and see if he wants to sign.

I have not said we dont need him in fact completely the opposite.

He is not playing well and needs to get right for us first as we pay his wages simple as that.

I do believe its club first and country not at all in my book.

HE WHO PAYS WINS !!!

HE HAS NEVER PUT US FIRST, JUST THIS ONCE IS ALL WE ASK.

This post is utterly ridiculous - what is so wrong for Cahill wanting to play for Australia’s World Cup qualifiers?

Should we now also ask Yobo, Yakubu and Pienaar back from AC?

Should we tell Lescott vere to play for England again?

Should we say to Arteta to stop dreaming of wearing Spanish shirt?

I know what we can do. Let’s not buy any players that can make their national team.

This is a reverse logic of wanting our progress to go backwards a few years and us becoming a relegation contender once again.

Paul - I’m really torn over this one. On one hand its great for the club’s profile having internationals like Tim, especially because hes so popular in Os. Plus he was open an honest with the club when they signed him about his desire to play for his country. On the other hand with us having the African nation players away I hope he takes that into account and decides to stay in England on this occasion, especially with us having a chance of finishing 4th.

Saying that there is a good chance we might have The Yak, Yobo and Peanuts back by the Reading game!

Tim fought for 2- 3 years in the courts against the heirachy so that he could play for the country he loves. He has said himself that once he won that battle he would play for the green and gold at every oppurtunity.
Timmy will do what the coach wants him to do. If Pim Verbeek says he wants him there, he will go. It all depends on whether or not the coach thinks that we can beat Qatar without him. Pim has a rating system that ranks A-League players against jet-lagged internationials and he ultimately will decide which team he wants. There are Cahill tyoe players in the A-League, not at the same level, but may be able to do the same job. Just support him regardless, there will be a time to rest him or play him 45-60min like we did when he was coming back from injury.

In my book we are in more trouble with good players going to play for England to get tapped up. Nothing will ever be done about that.

What a pathetic post. Tim Cahill is a vital cog in Australia’s chances of making the next world cup. Football is just starting to really take a hold in Australia and all the world’s best players leave theire clubs for national duties, its a major reason why they play. Tim has always put in when it counts flying back to England to play (and play well) for Everton the day after he played in Australia a few years ago.

Chris Wilkins.
Thank God you are not the manager or in fact anything to do with the Club. You must be blind if you don?t see the contribution Tim makes even when he doesn?t score.
I agree with Russell. Pathetic post!!

Tiny Tim is a Dinkum Aussie.

His country will always come first and that is the reason that we still have him at Everton.

He was well tapped up during the Summer but one of the conditions of his move was that Tim would cool it on his Aussie trips.

He refused , the big offer was withdrawn and Cahill signed a contract extention with us.

Be very careful about exactly what you wish for !

The thing is that the Aussie coach indicated he might try and field a team of home based players because of the lacklustre quality of the opponents they are facing. Tim insisted on his inclusion according to reports which given our plight (ANC/injuries/small squad/Graveson is shit)
is a bit annoying.

Glen Strachan,

I love how posters like you always have insight into supposed happenings that even the 3rd hand rumour spreading media never report. How do you know he was tapped up ? It’s like the poster on here the other day saying Moyes was going to quit if we didn’t sign Yakubu. Then we have other "insiders" claiming Moyes knew nothing of the Yakubu deal and it was thrust upon him. I laughed today when I saw ex-Everton trainee Daniel Fox had joined lowly Covenrty city because a year ago another "insider" on here claimed that "Naysmith wasn’t going to sign a new contract because Fox was so good and Merson told him not to buy a home in Walsall because a Premiership club would snap him up in a few months." With regard to Cahill I would like to know if Glenn Strachans source was the same "insider" on toffeeweb who proudbly anounced about a year ago that a secret deal had been done and Tim had already signed for Man Utd. Ohhh and whatever happend to that "row Arteta had with Moyes and Irvine in training" that lead to him and Manny Fernandes setting up his move back to Spain ?

What a fucken pathetic post. Its okay for every other Tom, Dick and Harry to get up and leave and want to play for there country but when its Tim Cahill then he should stay. Its not like it is a meaningless friendly its a World Cup qualifier! English fans of all people should realise that you can’t sent a half assed team for qualifiers as you can easily get found wanting! Why have double standards for certain players? To me its a joke the whole ANC at this time of the season but our players are gone and we just have to adapt. Tim is a very proud Aussie as am I and if the English team had players with the same National pride then they would not be the perennial underachievers that they are!

Tim Cahill is an Australian International and very proud to be so. He fought hard to be able to play for them so it would be foolish and a bit arrogant of him to turn around now and say he will only play in "big games". He gives his all when playing for Everton, it?s not his fault that the schedules of our league and all these other federations like Asia and Africa do not work out. It?s only one game and we will just have to play 2 up front.

I’ve made the point before, Paul; yes, "he who pays the piper calls, or at least should call, the tune" is a fair argument. However, the reality is that Tim is, as others have pointed out, a dinky di, fair dinkum Aussie. It’s a bit like that T shirt that says something about being born Blue, not made and if you don’t understand don’t bother asking. I don’t mean it disrespectfully but, obviously not being one, you can’t fully appreciate what being Australian is. For every Aussie kid growing up, playing for Australia is the be all and end all. There is no club v country dilemma. Ask a passionate supporter of any club side in Australia, league, rugby or football, who he’d rather pay for - his club or the Kangaroos, the Wallabies or the Socceroos - and he’d look at you as if you were mad. The Everton first, England second stuff I’ve seen expressed on this site just doesn’t happen Downunder.

I believe that Tiny should play for his country, the same as any other guys like Pienaar,Yak Yobo and Roger. We do pay his wages but do you think by stopping him going it will just piss him off for a move. And the bit about him being a fair dinkum aussie, hmmmm he is from Samoa and played for them too

Peter Bradshaw. So when was Sydney in Samoa. He was born and bred an Aussie. He played when he was 14 for the Samoan under 20 side. Due to the fact that his Mum is Samoan. He could also of played for Ireland as his dad is Irish. He has never even lived in Samoa. Hmmmmm!

Under normanal circumstances I dont have a problem with players going away for internationals but with Tim I think he owes us some consideration as if he had not played so soon after injury he would not have missed so many games this season. And to be fair the opposition they are playing are not a threat to Aussies. It would be a perfect time to blood a new player. If this was a difficult game then of course Tim should go,but if he goes then we know what he thinks of us and our hopes for the season. To be fair to him he should not be the one deciding... it should be the Aussie manager.

Tim Cahill was born in Sydney. He is as ’dinkum’ an Aussie as you will find.

He was invited to play for Samoa’s under 20 side while on holiday there as a 14 year old. He received the wrong advice about the consequences of accepting the offer and paid for it over the next 10 years. I’m sure we’ve all made decisions when we were 14 which may have been different with the benefit of hindsight.

There are several Socceroos whose commitment to the national team has been questionable. Tim Cahill is even more of a legend in Australia because his commitment never is.

Being an Aussie Toffee its a difficult situation to be in. However if there was one player I would back in this situation it would have to be Tim Cahill.

In any event, we’re not talking about an international friendly .... this is a World Cup qualifier.

If Tim IS a bit tired, believe me, a trip to Australia, even fist class, will do nothing to alleviate his fatigue. He?d be better having a few days off relaxing rather than making a gruelling journey to the other side of the world.

Roy - on the face of it, Qatar dont look like a threat...but then look what happened with England and Macedonia! And look what happened to Australia in the Asian Cup when they drew with Oman and lost to Iraq! This is a World Cup qualifier and NO chances should be taken against any opposition.

Pathetic post, well that seems to be the opinion of people that are Everton fans from afar, not that I have a problem witht that, I welcome it.

Tim cahil is a fantastic Everton player and I want him available all the time

Maybe selfish but for what he gets paid we should have the call, unfortunately whether he likes it or not. As a pro he has to take it on the chin.

It is also not an aussie thing either I hate international breaks, I hate England games full stop, I want to watch Everton and thats it for me.

We as a team have player issues at the moment we are short for tomorrow night we will have more problems if Tim goes, I am asking him to apply some common sense to this, a trip to the other side of the world to play in a game they should walk through or be available for two very important games that could make or break our season.

Nothing against Tim at all its against International football full stop.

Club first simple as that.

Or let Australia and any other international team pay his wages while he is with them, I know what the answer to that would be.

Michael Tracy.

Just a point why do you assume all football supporters who are english support England.

I support Everton and have no interest in England or any team outside of Everton.

So you know what you can do with your opinion about the post, it makes no difference whether you think its pathetic or not.

This forum is about everyones opinion not just yours and in this case I believe your opinion is wrong>

Piennar did his utmost to stay on a few days to play in the semi and he is on loan, a small compromise from Tim is all I am asking.

Does anyone else recall Cahill stating that playing for Everton is his main priority ahead of Austraila, after he returned from injury?? What a load bollocks that is if he misses two important games for us for one game with the Socceroos agaisnt Qatar!!!! Granted Cahill always gives his all on the pitch; however, don't give us this 'I'm a massive blue' bollocks when Everton are always coming second to your country.
