The Mail Bag

It would have been Chelsea

I was watching highlights of Oldham lose to Huddersfield and thinking about what might have been. With only 6 premiership teams left in the FA Cup final 16, I was interested to see who Huddersfield would be drawn up against in the 5th round..... CHELSEA!

If we'd had still been involved that would have been us travelling to Stamford Bridge ONCE AGAIN!! There were 10 non-premiership teams in the draw and yet once again we would have found the toughest route. I haven't checked the stats but it just seems as though every year we end up playing Chelsea, Man Utd or Arsenal in the cups. This bad luck has to end some time right? I mean it's one thing getting to a semi or a final and playing them but in the early rounds it just sucks.

It is almost as if the draw is fixed because Aston Villa have been drawn against Utd no less than 4 times in the last six seasons in the third round! I think that fo a team like us or Villa to win we need a chance to build up a head of steam in the arly rounds and then momentum would give us a chance. When we last won the cup it wasn't until the quarter finals that we met Newcastle who were "big four" at the time. In 89 we didn't play anyone of significance until the final and likewise in 86. Now the big four knock us and the likes of Villa and Spurs off early then sweep through the masses of lower division teams left who make up the last 16. It is just bloody irrittating and it has to end at some point right?

Lol please don?t, you?ll get the conspiracy theorists talking. Our luck's been changing a lot over the last couple of years, maybe we?ll start getting the luck of the draw too.

To win a Cup you’ve gotta beat the best teams eventually. Given the application and improvement in the team, it is only a matter of time before we stuff them anyway, whatever competition.

I remember the times when we always used to face our neighbours in the semi finals.
Only happened once that we avoided them and both teams went to Wembley.

Many ways to look at the fifth round scenario Kieran. To be drawn against Chelsea would have been ideal as it would have clearly shown us if Moyes had learnt from the Carling Cup strategy he chose to use.

It didn?t work then and it would have been interesting to see if he chose a different formation.

The balls for the draw are allocated in alphabetical order for the Premiership and Championship teams and then the rest. So, we wouldn’t have had the same number as Huddersfield and wouldn’t have drawn Chelsea.

Having seen "jammy" Liverpool again drawn at home and against Barnsley, you might be right - perhaps it is fixed. How do they do it. Hvant last round and now Barnsley. I doubt it, but fingers crossed, Barnsley come out on top.

Erm. We didn’t draw Chelsea. We drew Oldham at home - one of the easiest draws we could have got.

Ridiculous argument.

Agree with Mike Oliver, we had an ?easy? draw at home to Oldham and then, following the logic that we are now ?Oldham? could have had an ?easy? home game with Huddersfield.

Thing is we lost and that ends Evertons?s interest in the Competition.

CYOB and for my mate in Barnsley - C?mon the Tykes in round 5 !!!!

It’s funny really, if we draw Chelski away in the third round it’s ’a bad draw’, if Tranmere or the like do it it’s called ’the magic of the Cup’!
I guess it’s better that people refer to us with the former phrase!

Getting a bit paranoid there, me thinks.
Let?s look at the FA cup draws that actually happened under Moye?s reign.

2003 Shrewsbury (A)

04 Norwich (H)
04 Fulham (H)

05 Plymouth (A)
05 Sunderland (H)
05 Man U (H)

06 Millwall (A)
06 Chelsea (H)

07 Blackburn (H)

08 Oldham (H)

That?s a total of 7 home draws and 3 away draws.
Yes, we have been so unlucky!
