Tim(e) to prioritise?

I have just seen on the OS that the SoccerRoos game is a FRIENDLY! I can't believe Cahill is prepared to jet to the otherside of the world and miss 2 crucial Prem games against Rovers and Reading.
I am please DM has left it to Cahill to decide his own fate but think DM should take his own advice that he dished out re African Cuppers and not pay him whilst off on his jaunt.

Isn’t it actually a WC qualifier?

Its one of those situations that really isnt worth getting yourself bothered about, at the end of the day the country/player has the power and the right to play that player/play for that country and that wont change! Other countries have the world cup and euro championships mid-season so its swings and roundabouts!

I do remember Cahill being quoted (after the new contract) saying his priority was now club after his last international jaunts and injury.
It is time for him to prioritise, he looks tired as it is.

I also thought that it was a World Cup qualifier, a bit different than a meaningless friendly and I doubt Cahill would fly half way around the world for a friendly sandwiched between two important league games

Sorry it IS a qualifier (read on one site it was friendly).
Still a bummer

Double standards down under tho! :
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has ruled Vince Grella out of next week?s World Cup qualifier against Qatar, because his Italian club side Torino is playing on Sunday.

I think it?s unrealistic to expect a fiercely proud Aussie to drop from a WC qualifier for his club. I?d love it if he did but as an England supporter of a bygone era it used to irk me when Man Utd players pick and chose (or had picked and chosen for them) which games they played in. Why would Australian games be less important to their countrymen?
Agreed it?s a bummer though.

See previous mail of two days ago titled Club v Country.
A pretty hot debate as you will see.

I dont understand what the argument is? Its petty, and its al "me, me, me".
He’s an aussie. We knew that when we signed him. Who the hell do we think we are to stop him playing for his country in a world cup qualifier?
IMHO, moyes is already walking a tight line with potentially upsetting our international players. Pienaar very nearly got into trouble with his country after the recent debacle.
Remember people: players will have many cubs in their careers; but they only represent one country.
I actually find it deeply embarassing that we whinge about our players representing their countries.

Jeremy the difference with Pienaar was that he was only getting there early for a training camp and a nothing friendly, whereas Cahill is going for a World Cup qualifier. Quite a big difference.

Tell you what then, why doesn’t every club try to stop their players from playing in a friendly for England, LMAO I’d love to see the comments if that did happen, The fact is a post above says about the Aussies having double standards but I don’t see you arguing when our English Players go out for a friendly.

Actually Tony - I think you will find Pienaar was stopped from attending the African Nations Tournament, at the designated SAME time that every other player in the ENTIRE tournament was allowed, as dictated by FIFA rules.
Fact.
So, no - not a big difference at all. Exactly the same - international player playing for his country in an important tournament. Fact.

I have to admit to being embarassed that Portsmouth lost a far larger proportion of their team to the african nations tournament, yet there arent any media reports about Harry throwing a wobbler and trying to test the rules and hold back players or wanting to stop the premiership season, or being "frustrated" about individual players wanting to help their country in a qualifier.
He knew when he signed them. Havent heard any other premiership managers complaining either.
It really does not shed us in good light in my opinion.
And if I was an international player and my club boss was complaining, I would be pretty peeved.

Why do people post here any kind of crap? Could you please check the facts before you decide to whinge again about our players.
Fact - it is a WC qualifier Tim wants to play -
Australia WC preliminary group.

Cahill is not the blame here if efc lack depth in their midfield, and yes its definatley a WC qualifier played home in Melbourne.

I don’t understand why everybody is on Cahill’s back about this. Its a very important World Cup Qualifier and that should be the end of it. This is the 2nd post about this and its just as pointless as the first one. Also the writer should make sure that she has her facts right before typing commences. Tim had to fight for years to be able to play for the Green and Gold. The number one objective of any elite Australian sports person is to represent their Country, just because people don’t see Australia as being a football power doesn’t mean its not special. I would never begrudge any player playing for their Country. Maybe if we had a Chairman who actually had a pot to piss in then we would have depth in our squad and we wouldn’t be worried about such matters. But thats another story!
