Who will be playing in midfeild? Baines or Neville?

Rather Baines but not liking the look of our team. Still with Lescott and Mikel at Goodison I always fancy us COYB

2   Posted 30/01/2008 at 19:43:21

Who’s in midfield and who’s in defence? Strange line-up - can’t tell who is going to be playing where.

I fear the worst against a spurs side in great form. Noone of note on the bench besides Vaughan either.

The night for AVDM to make amends perhaps??

Official site says Baines right back but i wouldn’t be surprised to see him left midfield.
Mike Coates
5   Posted 30/01/2008 at 19:48:51

True, it does appear strange with 2 left backs. Both of which (moreso Baines) who can run all the way up the left side well.

My bet is :

Neville - Jags - Lescott - Valente

Arteta - Carsley - Fernandes - Baines

Johnson - Anichebe

Still.. confusing. As Everton site states Neville in Midfield?
Mike Coates
6   Posted 30/01/2008 at 19:57:52

Damn, missed it mentioning Baines at Right back on the site.. Guess coz I didn’t realise he could play there.

Now watchin on tv I noticed I got it right though :)
Ian Barker
7   Posted 30/01/2008 at 20:03:20

Where on TV is it on? Doesnt sound a promising start, but hopefully two left backs should nullify lennon

On Fox Sports .. Viewer’s Choice.

1 of five games I can watch.

Anichebe looks either injured early or just completely buggered 8 minutes in.. Heheh.

doesny cut it for me that boy, impact player, nothing more, still a young lad mind and has done well so far in his career
Mike Coates
11   Posted 30/01/2008 at 20:12:33

So far..

We’ve been doing all the attacking.

Manny has done a little tricky footing, but Baines let his pass down.

Howard handled a bouncing back pass extremely well and booted it back up field very well.

Anichebe looked to take a hit to the head but is ok.

Baines and Nuno down the left hand side look ok, but Baines is too defensive, not taking forward passes like an attacker well.

Valente’s challenge on Chimbonda (I believe) was slight but he’s acting like a freight train hit him.

And Johnson’s received a few high balls, controlling about 1 in 3 of them.

Can anybody tell me where i can watch it on the net?? I have tried Tvants bt it doesnt’t load and that is the on ly site myp2p and livefooty are streaming. Can anyone help??
Mike Coates
13   Posted 30/01/2008 at 20:21:14

Sorry, dunno. I usually use myp2p.eu when I’m at my girlfriends in the city but home on Foxtel now.

More play :

Carsley had an easy pass that he gave away badly, Berbatov ran forward, but Baines ran right back and stole it back to hand to Fernandes.

Johnson’s control is so good for his height, using his head to feed Baines, who got past some defenders and fired a shot on goal, missing just to the left.

Tottenham had their first shot on goal from Malbranque.. Bicycle kick.. but easily saved.

And Johnson in the box ran the ball down and almost was able to get it past the keeper.. still, not close enough!! C’mon Everton!

TVants noot loading for me either!!!!!!!!
Mike Coates
15   Posted 30/01/2008 at 20:26:33

Anichebe right six of box, tipped it to Johnson, too crowded.. ball rolls to Baines, but he’s on Johnson’s ass and doesn’t have enough room as he fires on goal, our best chance so far.

Baines could be our first scorer if he positions well enough.

Johnson just got the ball back in the box, turn and shoots in an instant, pity straight to the keeper :(

Nuno looking good down left side..

Pass back across field could have been dangerous cept for safe touch by Fernandes..

Be back in 10-15 mins..

Good to see Man City losing, but bad coz I have Petrov and Vassell in my Fantasy League team..

Cmon its only Derby.. kick a heap of goals on them and get me points..

Lescott, Fernandes and Arteta from Everton. :)

Not happy with Chelsea winning, where’s Readings form gone. :(

37   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:03:51

Was on phone.. back now.

Arteta before had a nice run down the left side of the box, cross in, looked more a shot on goal, just missed the back post.

Nuno just had an amazing run down the left, past a bunch of players, but nothing eventuated.

Ball back into box up front, Johnson on it, but shuffled around with defenders, and its back out.
Mike Coates
38   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:07:30

Berbatov had a run down the middle, pass forward, looked to get to Keane but Neville nicely cut it off.

BUT

he went to pass it and turned it over straight away, ball back to Keane but he wasn’t able to beat Howard.

Still.. poor play Nev :(

Another foray into Everton’s box.. but cleared out.. and a side ball now. Everton’s favour.

Mike Coates
42   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:08:59

Fernandes not doing much at moment, mainly coz ball is going over his head to Johnson, play it down boys.

Berbatov had a dangerous run into box then, but Lescott being the top player he is managed to stop him, ball spilled to Howard..

Back out.

Mike Coates
45   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:11:32

Fernandes finally gets a chance to do some work, as Howard rolls the ball to him, runs forward, then left around players, spots Neville out wide on the right, who crosses the ball in but over everyone.

Poor play Nev.

Mike Coates
49   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:12:38

Ah good, Petrov points ;)

Still not much happening in Everton-Tottenham game though.

Its like everyone is jogging and not doing much.

Tottenham had great chance then, BUT Carsley proved he’s brilliance pouncing, diving his leg out, catching ball and taking it out to Arteta’s flank.

Ball currently out in our attacking half, their throw.
Andy Callaghan
50   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:15:08

I tell you what, the BBC Sport live updater is brilliant for telling you who has a throw-in and what type of throw it is! Pffffft.
Mike Coates
51   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:15:01

The game had a little hoof ball going on, but we’re keeping it down now.. AND involving Fernandes like we should.

Our defence is a brick wall.. its great to watch as you get real scared that they are gunna break.. but Lescott of Neville or Cars kill it! :)

OMG..

Fernandes down middle, great pass to Johnson in box.

Practically one on one but nowhere to kick past, ball flicked under keeper but not fast enough to go in goal.

...........

What I was gunna say before this, is Johnson had it in the box, passed back to Fernandes who dummy footed right, went left and had a shot. Fernandes should be given more of these!
Mike Coates
52   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:19:17

Tottenham defence was slow on getting it out, waiting for someone.

Fernandes put out his long damn foot and caught onto it, newayz, Tottenham playing a bit more up their offensive end at moment.

But our defence clears once again.. Nervous times.

63 mins.
Mike Coates
53   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:21:39

Jags in defence looking very confident, got ball out.

Tottenham’s defence is shocking, back pass that is dangerous.

Ball back in, Carsley had another shot, deflected corner.

Corner in, nothing, corner again.

Another corner.. Ball bouncing around on heads and out of the box now..

Fernandes doing ok defensively aswell.

Anichebe seems invisible at the moment. Vaughan should come on!
Mike Coates
54   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:24:01

Johnson looking so ever closer to score.. Just fumbled over every time he’s about to shoot.

Another corner.. but its headed out.
Mike Coates
55   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:25:10

Tottenham corners at the moment.

Lescott and Baines doing well to stop the crosses.

58   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:26:32

The great thing about watching Fernandes.

Every time the ball is passed to him (just like Arteta’s little flick over his head just then) he’s always able to get it, stick out a foot and touch it.

Anichebe just had a shot, deflected for a corner.

Vaughan mentioned to be coming on.

Arteta corner now....
Ian Barker

Victor off.. Vaughny on.

Now to see an added spurt of speed, hopefully :)

Already in the mix, trying to head forward..

Two little speedy’s up front now.

Everton throw on right side, midway.

Out again, up forward now for our throw.

Long throw.. Neville into box.

Out for a goal kick :(
Mark Pendleton
65   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:30:09

Why couldn’t Spurs have waited until tomorrow to sign him, crock or not, as seems like he and Cerny keeping them in it!
Ian Barker
66   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:30:29

Vaughn or Vic have always thought Vaughn is significantly better and far more likely to cut it in the top flight
Mike Coates
67   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:30:39

Tired attempt by Carsley up front, ball stolen away and up Tottenham’s end.

Cross in, Howard easy catch.

Kick forward.. Tottenham head back, loss of possession as it usually is with such a kick.

But we’ve got it back, kicked down to Vaughan.. Who still on the ball

Out to Arteta.. who kicks to Nev.. crosses it in, but way over again (he’s not good at them)

Ball still in our possession.. kicked forward to no one.
Mark Pendleton
68   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:32:27

Too right Ian. Best to just keep Vic for Europe!!
Mike Coates
69   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:32:59

An unusual poor pass back to left back, or something from Arteta.. forcing Nuno to slide tackle Lennon.. Yellow card.. Very weird from Mikel.

Free kick to Tott.
Mike Coates
70   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:34:58

Carsley gets first touch to the free kick, ball way up in the air to back post.

Chimbonda by himself, but he’s crap.. and as expected put it out, for a goal kick.

He’s having a shocking game..
Mike Coates
71   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:35:54

To see a striker run back in to Defensive midfield, steal a pass and pass it to our safety..
Johnson rules.

Up forward again..

Fernandes possession, slides into center for Cars.

Carsley another shot.. but over.
Ian Barker

Mike Coates
74   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:37:12

80 mins

Ball out in our attacking area.

Neville poor throw doesnt give Arteta much, but its back up front now.

Fernandes possession, but Tott defence stands up for once.

Ball back their way.

Mike Coates
77   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:38:53

Woodgate just got a yellow, clipping Vaughan.. the bastard.

We had a nice break away then too.

Everton must score, Cmon. Take advantage of Liverpool losing!
Mike Coates
78   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:40:13

Vaughan looking so lively, must use this to our advantage.

Berbatov had another awesome chance.. not good.

But JAGS prevailed the master, clearing it :) right in the middle.. Looked a certain goal to them!
Mike Coates
79   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:41:30

6 mins of normal time to go.

A little quiet at moment..

Everton throw.
Mike Coates
80   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:42:46

Brick wall again.. Tottenham have no chance with Jags or Lescott who stamps his foot down, gets the ball and clears to Vaughan.. who passes upfield to Johnson, but Johnson just can’t trap it.
Ian Barker
81   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:44:14

sounds all spurs at the moment, starting to think a point against an in form spurs will be decent, take 4 off them this season
Mike Coates
82   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:43:53

Howard nicely runs out and grabs the ball.

As commentators just said, he hasn’t had much to do, pleased to touch it.

Clearing kick still to Tott though. We should aim to keep possession and keep the ball down dammit.
Mark Pendleton
83   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:45:32

A win tonight would be awesome but given Spurs’ form and the players we have fit and available a draw would be a good result too.
Mike Coates
84   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:45:55

No penalty.. possible dive to Tottenham then.

The Frenchman went down to easy..

89 mins.
Mike Coates
85   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:47:17

3 mins added..

Everton possession.

Ball out our attacking.
Mike Coates
86   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:48:30

French down again, left wing for them.

He’s an actor, Arteta barely caused that.

Johnson ran down a long Howard kick.

Corner.
Mike Coates
87   Posted 30/01/2008 at 21:49:57

Blardy scary then.

Lennon running in, Berb support.

Lescott and Jags on Lennon, Jags gets back to cover Berb, and keeps him from making anything.

Goal kick.

END OF GAME :(

That was hairy at the end, what was fernandes doing giving the ball straight to lennon. Werent too impressed with him apart from setting up the AJ chance which he should have buried. Only saw the second half but thought we were the better team until the last 10 mins where our lack of strength in depth showed

97   Posted 30/01/2008 at 22:46:15

Tell you what on the strength of his two displays so far, Fernandes looks way off being a £10 million player. Unless he improves soon I fear Moyes wont look to make the deal permanent.

I suppose a goalless drawer against the Premiership’s top goalscoring, in-form team can be considered a good result, especially considering they were flying after reaching the final by destroying Arsenal.

Still I hate 0-0 results.
Michael Hunt
98   Posted 30/01/2008 at 23:23:26

That’ll do with the players we had available. Re. Fernandes, he was at times very good today, but only in patches. Moyes said before he is lacking match fitness and not up to premiership tempo just yet. That seemed to be the case. With more game time he will hopefully develop into the 90 minute midfield dynamo we need. In time for Saturday please Manny!
Mike Coates
99   Posted 30/01/2008 at 23:37:12

Gawd I’m dumb.. lol.

I’ll be around to watch one final Everton game home in Aus. As I stupidly looked at the fixture list on the Everton site, I thought Tottenham was the last game of the month.. (which it is ofcourse) and that it was another week til next Everton game.. lol.. Not thinking that February started this w/end.

Wrong. I’ll be around to type/commentate for the Blackburn game if anyone has no access to seeing/watching the game.

For the next few days, must relish the 4th position and RS’s 7th.. Which is worth a few drinks in itself at my Farewell on Friday ;)

Just got back from the match....

ok it wasn’t a classic, but its a hard earned valuable point. The score from Upton park certainley helped my mood and with city drawing also there’s no harm done! Ok it’d been nice to take all 3 points, but we were down to the bare bones and for me, thats a good point we’ve just earned.

Plus points:
1. Another top display by jags at centre back
2. Another game less before we get our Africans back and no damage done to our cause!
3. West ham 1 - 0 Liverpool

Bad points:
1. if only AJ had of put that one in
2. Manny looked poo again (but its very early days)

So I’m going to bed reasonably happy!

Fernandes is pure class just give him time to get match fit ffs. People are expecting too much out of him too soon. If you can?t see the the potential this lad has you must be watching him play with your fucking eyes closed.
Jay Harris
103   Posted 31/01/2008 at 00:28:38

Manny has the ability to be outstanding once we get a decent midfield back again.
The lack of discipline in the team tonight didnt help anybody.
Players were overlapping underlapping chasing shadows but good effort by a badly depleted squad (Bullshit Billy take note.)
Lets hope Ossie?s back for sat.

That is the weakest bench I’ve seen in a very long time.

Stubbs and Vaughan are the only non-liababilities!

Dunno what to say. Am glad though cause last season the result was 2-0 to Spurs.

I think FErnandez got his foot back in the 2nd half. That?s a silver lining to last night?s game.

The 2 Center Backs were as solid as rock.

I also noticed that Arteta and Neville seems to have like a telepathy relationship between them. Artetata, not looking back, can easily kick the ball forward and out of no where came Phil Neville to get it.

Left back was a problem last night. Baines of all people had to play there. Not that he?s not good enough but the man?s in the process of recovering from an injury.

Carsleygave hell to Spurs. The Spurs midfielfds are downright scared of him. In fact the only time they got thru is when they travel from the left or right. The middle area is Carsley to keep.

Johnson kept losing the ball. His first touch is bad and needs improving. He stops build up many times with his bad touch.

Plus, I don?t blame him for not scoring. THe goalie was good and lucky to be able to delay the ball. Mind u the ball did get thru him

Anichebhe i think had a good game and didn?t lose the ball as much as Johnson.

Vaughan came in, and should?ve came in for Johnson not Anichebe. When Vaughn came in, ewe had two ?fast finishers". So, who?s gonna do the stopping and setting?

DUHHH

Figures that we started to suck when Vaughn came in
