Gordon Brown

Comments (45)

I've just heard Gordon Brown - the Prime Minister's - comments on Everton FC. He has made a speech mentioning the club motto and then poking fun at our lack of trophies. Talk about getting your priorities right. The cheeky get should sort his own issues out bcause he's got enough of them. I'm a labour voter but I hope he personally gets trounced in the Commons at Question Time, the fat, useless tit. Mind you, he's a politician so we only have to wait til his "teenage homo affair" is unveiled. Alan Green in disguise.

Not heard about this, but really who cares, he’s not known for his interest in football, his types only get involved when it can boost their popularity a la Tony Blair and Newcastle, he’s an arse, goodluck to thefella cos he’s got other things to worry about, like trying to keep hisjob on account of being sussed out by the voters

We can all email the ignorant git directly through the Downing St site.

google - prime ministers office uk

select subject - prime minister (not health, etc)

it will take a minute to fill in address etc.

My only advice would be to avoid using some of the words we call each other on this site - that’s just between us isn’t it.

But give the arsehole some stick all the same.

I’ve just sent off my comment to Mr Brown via the Downing St website. Took about five minutes. I’ll get an automated reply and I’ll get no more - but the more of us that do it, the more likely one will get through.

Think for yourself, of course, but my theme was that we weren’t owned by American, Russian or Arab carpetbaggers (could have thrown in Thai as well I suppose).

I’d love to but am stuck in the New Mexico.

Well I’ve posted the email below to his office and will let you know if I get a reply or visit from the other boys in blue:

It was with great discomfort and disdain that I heard the Prime Minister select to cast a poor tasteless joke at the expense of Everton Football Club regarding the clubs proud motto and it’s misuse under the trades descriptions act. I suggest the Prime Minister looks far closer to home with failing policies, party member scandals, major departmental horror stories such as loss of personal data and a growing loss of faith within the country’s voters at large before trivialising in such bad taste. As a labour voter I found this even more galling than the sort of ignorant snobbery I would expect from the opposition party not the supposed party of the people. A public apology should be given as the sentiment of the statement was not humourous at all.

How dare her ? sacrilege ? Come on lads he is just trying to be funny. I don’t like it when everyone gets uptight because it reminds me of the damn yanks I live among who think their flag is sacred or something.
Do we need mock and ridicule other teams ? It’s just a comment and words mean nothing which again brings me back to a comparison with the USA. Over here the college football championship is decided by a vote of journalists and TV pundits and lo and behold their equivalent of the "big 4" always win. Luckily no words from the much maligned sky pundits or even the prime minister have any effect on us and out success or lack thereof. Therefore get over it move on and thank God you don’t live over here.

Couldn’t give a flying fook about what he said and I guarrantee that not many people heard it either, as when a politician comes on the radio or telly most people zone out to the mind numbing boring, untruthful rhetoric they come out with.

Kieran I drive a ridiculous amount of miles with my job and heard a long radio show which highlighted how stupid the UK has become so the USA has little to shock me. Did you know that thanks to all Tory Blair’s politically correct years that the least legally protected group in the UK; meaning the group that has the least number of specific laws to protect their group, is white heterosexual males? Every other minority, creed, race, deviance has laws galore, so for the PM to come out with such shit is offensive in a state that goes out of its way to control your life in every way it can.

Hi Gavin,

can you point me in the dirction to find all the laws you think exist.

Gavin, like you I drive too bloody much.
Surnames never come into it, it is usually the coulour of your skin or ethnicity what starts the shit. Most people I have met with your surname are usually white middle class.
You may be surprised, there are a few of you about.

I will certainly look up the BBC page you qoute and respond accordingly. I apoligise, I have not called you a rascist or sexist outright, but I think you know the way my thoughts are when I replied to the thread above.

Like the Scottish one and New labour have done such a good job of running our country. Poor NHS money management (PFI initiatibes for example...), bodged elections (see last year), dodgy party funding, wonky school policies, over-priced public transport, rapidly entering a recession and a horrific housing market. Yes Gordon, I think you need to check the mirror before talking about the trades description act...

This not a political forum, so I will be breif. Whenever this issue is aired, someone usually of low intellegence stands on a soap box and shouts racist, sexist or whatever is currently acceptably fashionable to the mass of semi illiterate idiots that need to pigeon hole any political thought that does not match their own myopic pshcophantic views.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

Below is a copy of the text of the e-mail I sent via the 10 Downing St website, I?ve received confirmation but don?t expect a reply.

RE: Prime Minister
I read with interest the PM?s remarks about the Latin phrase ? nil satis nisi
optimum ? and his derogatory remarks made about Everton Football Club . Is the
Prime minister aware of Everton?s fantastic community projects , their
charitable works , their disabled football schemes , their former players
foundation which makes them the first club in the county who provides assistance
and health care for any of it?s former players who have fallen on hard times ,
The Dr David France Everton Collection , a historical document described by
sotheby?s as the most important historical archive of a football club in
existance , which currently is being digitised and prepared for viewing at
Liverpool Museum , then online for the world to see , not to forget that Everton
were one of the twelve founder members of the football league and currently the
4th most succesful English club in terms of trophys .

I am of the opinion that as Prime Minister of this country , to make a comment
trying to belittle a very important and integral part of the country?s national
sport is bad taste and disrespecful . Not a very good example of behaviour I?d
expect for an elected leader . May I suggest that next time our PM wishes to
make such a comment , he actually takes the trouble to research the person ,
club or community he would like to publicly denounce .
I await his apology to Everton Football Club , with interest .

Regards
Derek Thomas

Peter Pridgeon... spot fuckin on.

Robert Carney...For shame. There are much too many of you Moral High ground, so stealthily, insidiously, indoctrinated, that you don’t even realise it, over sensitive, seeing offense where none exists, PC tossers, who, rather than talk about a subject in an adult, theoretical, none judgmental way. I’m suprised he made such comments given we had such a connection with Scotland over the years.

How can standing up and venting your feelings against uncalled for remarks from someone who should know better be called wimpish ? I we allow ourselves to be humiliated by a man who wasn’t actually PM when the last general election was made is being a wimp . Incidently this is the same person who chickened out of calling an election last year ’cos he was scared he might lose when his advisors told him otherwise .

Have to agree with everyone who says complaining to no.10 is weak - for heavens sake, the entire country already realises he is a clueless, dithering fool who will, probably singlehandedly, return the tories to power, so complaining when he makes a snide jibe at our expense isnt likely to achieve much.

Plus, of course, lets not forget that people who malign this great club of ours usually get theirs in the end.

I was at the actual speech when this was said. It was at the sports college conference in Telford and in fairness was a joking dig at the minister of sports speech as he was a self confessed everton fan. In the crowd it got a few laughs but as an evertonain myself i was not impressed with his comments about our beloved team!!!
the speech was fed live to all the schools in the country if they wanted to watch it, so there would have been a fair bit of interest in what he had to say.
I think if you go on the YST website you will be able to watch it back and make up your own opinion.

C’mon boys it seems to me it was just a little joke between colleagues. The sort of thing we get all the time in work from the r/s. But do we let them get to us, no, because we know our history and if they knew theirs they would realise if there was never an Everton then there would never have been a lpl.Remember we dont care what the red side say.Because there is going to be a show and we will be there. Onwards to Eastlands. The PMs comments will be drowned out by the roar of the crowd as the blues walk out on a sunny day in may. COYB This year the EUFA. Next the CL

I sent him this today.........
I was very disappointed to hear your remarks about Everton Football Club. I had previously been in admiration of your unstinting support for Raith Rovers but in this matter you have upset far too many people with an ignorant and ill timed remark. Maybe as PM you would prefer all of our top clubs to be owned by American chancers/ Russian billionaires or even Thai politicians with questionable backgrounds. (not to mention- clubs being touted towards middle eastern governments with anti semitic leanings)Look at EFC as a business and you will see that we mostly buy players from other British clubs, keeping the money circulating in the UK rather than going abroad. You will also see that our supporters have an impeccable record of travelling Europe with good humour and exemplary behaviour. As the club with the largest "walk to the ground" fanbase of any in the Premier League we probably have the lowest carbon footprint in the league. Look at the club’s links with disabled person’s groups and educational institutions. Look at how our club has responded to tragedies such as the murder of Rhys Jones and the abduction of Madeline McCann. Look at the history of our club and its location in a solidly working class mostly Labour voting part of the city and you will see why we are proud to be blue and proud of our club motto. We may not be a rich club supported by champagne Charlies. We may be more "old labour" than New Labour but if you had the football knowledge I thought you had you would not have made a remark which would be more suitable to Boris Johnson. Finally Mr Brown, before you apologise, look at this morning’s league table.

Not holding my breath for a reply.

Why is this making dozens (potentially hundreds) of grown men and women moan? It was just a joke, bloody hell. Look at everyone saying "show him the league table" and "still in the UEFA Cup". How embarassing is that?

Mountain out of a molehole. Just take it on the chin and laugh about it in the pub later on.

Heres my Email

Dear Mr Brown

Having heard your speech in which you slated Everton FC, the 4th most successful club in England, for our use of the latin motto ’Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ It left me very disapointed and wondering ’If you know your history’ after coming to a conclusion that you obviously aren’t up to scratch on your history of this 130 year old league founder I think it’s only right that I do the nation a favour by listing the success of a large piece of British heritage for our nations leader.

First Division titles: 9
Second Division Titles: 1
FA Cup trophies: 5
Charity Shield: 9
European Cup Winners Cup: 1

Ex Everton Players in English Hall of Fame: 8

Now I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist this

Raith Rovers History

Fife Cup Winners: 2
Scottish League Cup: 1
First Division Champions: 2
Second Division Champions: 5

Not really comparable.

Yours sincerely

I have to say Im far more concerned about the eyesight of officials than a throwaway line by the PM.
