"McFadden wasted another chance, his poor touch allowing Carroll, making his debut after signing from Rangers, to make a save, before Larsson finally gave the home side the lead."
Inconsistent in a great side, crap in a poor side. Says it all really. Don't think we'll miss Faddy at all but I still wish him all the best. Closed.

So... perhaps we can now make this the last Faddy thread... ???

Yes, don’t particularly care about how Faddy does or should we or shouldn’t we have sold him. But how about the other former Evertonian Stubbsy, how did he look for Derby? I have far more respect for Stubbs than McFadden, but suspect they will both be playing against each other in the Coca Cola Championship next year.

Watched the Brum v Derby game in a friends box yesterday.
Stubbs played really well , stopped anything that came to him.
McFadden looked alright in patches but didn’t have a great game. I think he is going to struggle to win the fans over..

Who gives a monkeys? He never did it for us, undoubted talent in there, but will remain a frustrating player all throughout his career. He came, he tried, he failed at Everton, simple as!! But good luck to him, I think he is a tryer....

Mark Hill, you say "undoubted talent" - the problem with this comment is that the majority of people DO doubt his talent!

I think some of us are being harsh on McFaddy. He does have talent albeit he was too inconsistent and never seemed to learn the simple things, always opting for the more difficult. The thing with him was we didn’t know what his position was - left-winger or forward or someone who played behind the forwards. But he did he have talent - the wonder goals against Charlton, Fulham & France plus a man-of-the-match performance when he thumped Leeds 4-0 in his first season. I know this probably does not count in many people’s eyes but he was genuinely a nice bloke. I’ve met him a couple of times and he was a gentleman. Thanks for the memories, McFaddy, albeit a few, but good memories anyway!

Spot on about McFadden, Dan.
Let?s keep beating him up a bit more... Missed a clear cut chance of scoring yesterday did he? Just like Fernandes at Blackburn yesterday and Johnson on Wednesday against Spurs. Says it all really, as you write !
Let?s just hope Ghana can eliminate Nigeria today and we can have the superb Yakubu back at Everton. No Yak on Saturday would set up the strong possibility of another 0-0 at home to Reading.
Just a last comment on McFadden , on the subject of Reading.... does anybody remember the chance that ?the dreadful McFadden? set up for an equaliser only for Andy Johnson to miss the target from two yards out in the match down at Reading this season.

It makes me sick. James McFadden has left the club and still there are those that want to complain about him.
They must be really short of something to write about.
I wonder who the next player to be picked on will be - Tony Hibbert (oh no the bully boys have already started on him}, Ossie when he hits his next ’off-form’ patch, AJ, ?
Call yourselves Evertonians.

Hopefully I am correct that this thread is purely about verifying as correct football decision made by David Moyes. He did not want Faddy to leave, unless the price was right. The above thread merely serves as Evertonians identifying evidence that David Moyes made the right decision. i.e. Faddy was tremendously gifted, but rarely employed his gifts often or effectively enough: Therefore we were right to take the 4.7 million rising to 5.7 million pounds that we did, for a player whose contract was running down and would have struggled to get the run in the side he wanted owing to strong competition in the squad. Let’s put this to bed and focus on the players we have at the Club, rather than those that now represent other teams: This is an EVERTON fanwebsite lets not forget!

Les, I wasn’t really picking on James and I did say I wish him all the luck. All I wanted to try and do was finally close the argument on whether we should have sold him or not. For me, the quote from the BBC tells me Moysey got it spot on.

McFadden scored goals and set up chances for others. With Yakubu out and Johnson willing but ordinary we miss him. Perhaps he was not of the highest quality but he was as good as we have and we have got worse without him. To let him go and not replace him is poor management and planning. And I am not blaming Moyes!

Peter, Did you hear we got £5 million for him?! Poor management does not make a big profit on a poor aquistion. In a years time Mcfadden will drift into our past with the likes of Earl Barrett. He was crap, consistently crap, with one or two flashes of brilliance, bloody Cadamateri was capable of flashes, it didn’t mean we shouldn’t have got rid of him. Lets aim our sights higher than the likes of McAverage. To call Johnson ordinary is a poor disservice, and Yakubu is back anyway.

Alex,
Defoe went for £9m, Cahill for £5m. Money these days is irrelevant. We have weakened the squad. Whatever you think of McFadden, he provided something that none else at Everton provided. We have just played three games without scoring, two at Goodison. At Stamfoed Bridge in the first leg of the semi-final, all our constructive play, all our goal scoring threat came from the left flank, via McFadden, Valente and Lescott. We have lost that creativity and spark, ultimately flawed though it might have been. The lack was very evident at Goodison. Perhaps McFadden was not the answer but I’d like to know who is. The team is currently (at time of ACON) worse than before he left. We have not brought anybody in to replace his abilities or spark and we have lost 4 points which we will regret and which he (or a replacement) may have won. WTF Earl Barrett has to do with this state of affairs you alone know.
