Four to Zero — Megolamaniacs and Ludites

Comments (24)

This is the number of fronts Everton were apparently engaged on back in December. Everyone was shouting from the rooftops how wonderful the collection of players at Everton were, the megalomaniacs amongst you were buying the tickets for the Cup Finals both domestically and in Europe and the luddites amongst you were contemplating life at Goodison in the season 2012 and onwards.

I have been an Everton fan since the age of 6, had a season ticket for 15 years then sadly moved away, but still make the trip to Goodison 8 or 9 times a year and watch them when they play in London and other Southern clubs.

I am really struggling to understand some of you so-called Everton supporters, who after winning a few games or getting to a stage in a cup, shout off about silverware, etc. It's not going to happen. We still have a massive amount of room to make up. Yes, we are getting better under the Ginger one, yes our players are much better quality than they were a few years a go, yes we are on the up, but please understand the gap.

This was never more evident than when we played Chelsea, 10 men against 11 and then their virtual reserve side. Yes we had some key players missing but it's all about strength in depth and we just do not have it. Mr Moyes made the comment it is probably going to mean spending money.

It's embarrassing to read, hear Evertonians shouting we are going to do this and do that and then fail, its also embarrassing shouting on about the history. Yes, we are a proud club, yes we had a great period in the 80's, yes we are in a similar position to 5 or 6 other teams. Yes I hate the Redshite, but at the moment they still have the bragging rights based on the last few years silverware.

I think we will get there, I think we will win major trophies and I think we will attract big name players, but its going to take time and with Meglamaniacs and Ludites its going to make it that much harder. Where does the Ludite theme come from? All thjose who do not want us to move to the new stadium!! come on, whats wrong with moving forward? With a new staiumm we get new investment, new players, more revenue, its all a giant continuous circle, just look at Manu.

We all need to support David Moyes and his plans, Blue Bill and his plans and realise what they are doing they are doing to try to restore us to our rightful place.

Embarrassing? Really? I assume you’re taking the piss? I admire the fact that after years of watching us fight relegation with no hope whatsoever most Evertonians believe we can compete for and win major honours.

I agree our shortcomings were highlighted over 2 legs against a very efficient Chelsea side but do you remember what underdogs we were against Man U in 95? I don’t agree that we should support Blue Bill. His inability to find major investment is hoding us back from making the jump to really compete.

Get it straight though Chris, Evertonians who believe we could win something are NOT an embarrassment. Turning up and singing about our history and believeing that we could win every game creates the passionate atmosphere at the games. Our belief that we should be winning major trophies drives us forward, otherwise Smith would be in charge and we’d be watching absolute crap still. Honestly Chris how can you call your fellow Evertonians luddites? Or are you not an Evertonian?

Actually as far as I remember we are still in with a shout in one of those four...
Chris - thats your opinion if you wanna support Bills plan to take us to Kirkby - what if I told you that you needed to support KEIOC? I dont think theres nothin embarassin about fans being happy to have a bit of hope for once, I bet you tell everyone around you to ’shut up’ when they sing were goin to city twice? Well do ya? Yeah we may not go twice but its good while it lasts - also we may go to kirkby but people have a right to say ’ Im not fuckin happy with this shite deal, weve been stitched up, no mistake and ill never set foot in that cowshed etc.

Anyway lets hope we can get the 3 points tomora that can help us kick back into form - god only knows im sick of hearing neville say it all week then play shite on a saturday..

Guys. I am Everton through and Through. When my twin girls were born 2 yrs ago, they were both in Swindon hospital wearing eveton baby grows, one with cahill and the other arteta on the back. It annoying that people are " blind" by thefact that its a fantastic oppourtunity for Everton. As a business man I would not put money into Goodison, great history, no future we are miles behind all other clubs except Ports mouth and they are moving.

We will get 3 points tomorrow, I am confident, but we need to play big against the big boys and we hnave not yet done that this season.

So you are embarrassed to hear fans singing with hope and aspirations?

Strange that!!

What do you think we should do then? Should we listen to the bile that Alan Green writes about Everton and think, "You know he may have a point there, we shouldn’t aim any higher than we have already acheived"

Lets be honest, we all know that we are probably not going to win the Wafer Cup and less likely to finish 4th but don’t for one second get on your high hprse and try and belittle the fans who genuinely have hope and are optimistic about Everton.

I am a jaded 35 year old who has seen us come through some dire times but to try and have a go at people who dare to dream is a bit daft really.

I am not having a go at Evertonains who dare to dream, but ffs, get real. We have invested very little to the teams above us. Dont try to make out I am not in favour of aspriartions, but these same people who have these so called dreams tend to be thobject to something that is going to make the club great again . These responses I have had so far typify what I am on about, wake up, smell the coffee, this is 2008, not 1988! And you wonder where the title ludites and lamaniacs comes from. Jeez I am glad none of you work for me.

Sometimes on these pages you hear some absolute nonsense regrding the players we are going to sign, the teams were going to beat and other stuff about the move i dont want to get into, even though i oppose it. but this is the most rediculous post i’ve ever read.
Were not supposed to dream, sing about what we hoped to win (Carling Cup),sing about what we could still win (Uefa Cup) and how were in pole position to dislodge our greatest rivals, possibly to thier financial ruin ( HA HA) correct me if im wrong arent we still fighting on two fronts. How many other teams would love to be in our position including the RS Franchise.

"Not having a go at Evertonians who dare to dream"...."don’t try and make out i am not in favour of aspirations".
You want your cake and eat it too Chris. You ARE having a go at dreamers telling them to get real and YOU are the one making out we should have no aspirations.
I am sure the so called dreamers are realistic enough to know that most things they are hoping for are unlikely or long odds to happen, but if you don’t have dreams they will never come true, so leave the Dreamers alone.

Chris,
You claim that you are glad that none of the posters here work for you - but why would anyone want to work for someone with such little aspiration or vision and so much pretention?.

Your original posting just doesn’t make sense . Hope you communicate with your employees better.

Definition of a Luddite: - any opponent of technological progress.

It is only because we accept that we are progressing that we now believe we can actually compete and win something. By acknowledging and appreciating our history, we understand how much our future means. By accepting that we are just some no mark team, how will we ever progress? We are not luddites.

Your anger in all your posts must be borne from your frustration that Everton are not where they should be but taking it out on your fellow blues whilst suggesting we should support Billy liar is an absolute joke. If you are so disillusioned with being an Evertonian why dare to bring your kids up as Evertonians?

Chris, I too started supporting the boys at the age of 6. This is my 50th year as a supporter, so I’ve suffered as much but I have also enjoyed - nee gone banzai when we’ve achieved and almost achieved. It was normal nature back in the 60’s and 80’s to gob off to opposing fans (especially at school to all the RS fans - mainly those who were originally blue!). I always felt that our confidence itransferred to the players as much as our nervousness did recently.
Come on all you blue fans, continue gobbing off about winning trophies, we all feel (and know) that its going to happen soon.....IMWT

Chris, even if your take on things was 100% accurate - which I don’t believe - is it not the fan’s perogative to dream? We don’t look at the first fixture of a new season and hope for a draw. We don’t eagerly anticipate the derby whilst expecting to be beaten. Why would we give up on a champions league place and a uefa cup trophy just because they’re unlikely? It’s a funny take on things to be telling people to ’get real’ when the joy of football is dreaming of the ’impossible’ - and sometimes seeing it actually happen.

I was reading your piece and got to the bit that said ’ sadly moved away ’ ....as the end bit with your name and location was off the page I scrolled down, Lo and behold ’ Cheshire !! ’ FFS . Didn’t take much to put you off then did it, no wonder you don’t like optimists.

I still feel guilty not getting there from New Zealand

You see when you move down soooth you are sourounded by dick heads who cant support thier local team, so we all know who they turn to and conversation becomes all things Man U and RS, so it seems to me you have been taken in by all this johnny come lately, glory seeking dick heads. So sorry I will sing and chant, go to Brann and get pissed. The memories of Metalst, Nurenberg and Alkmarr will last for ever.

If you want to find dickheads don’t go down south live in Yorkshire the home of the majority of dickheads. My family are from Liverpool and we are split 60/40 Everton Liverpool. The one thing that gets me upset is listening to my brother going on and on about how great LFC are and being patronising about EFC. Liverpool supporters expect success and are going to have a 70,000 seater stadium to show off. I just hope EFC supporters realise that we need to compete against the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham who all have mega rich backers. Football has changed it is getting more like the NFL. The proposals for any extra game is complete money driven crap. However, that is whats it all about now. Michelle Platini has got is spot on, no English managers, players, owners and soon no English games. EFC are in danger of missing the gravy train, we have to move out to Kirby and then just see the investors breaking the doors down.

So Ron, do you live in Yorkshire? I take exception to your statement because I do! Not sure why you decided to have a pop at God’s county, but I can take a joke so never mind.

I wasn’t born in Leeds or Liverpool, instead I entered the world in a boring hole known as Northampton. Luckily for me my cousin lived in Huyton and his dad took us to GP when we were little for our first taste of footy. That was 1982 to 1984 and whilst I remember only small bits of our subsequent glory, I was at least lucky enough to be there during one of our successful periods. In the meantime I moved to Leeds where an Evertonian is as rare as rocking horse shite and had to put up with jibes from RS for the next decade (Leeds were still in the old 2nd division then so I was at least spared the crap from the majority). I still sing as loud as ever at GP, difference now is that there’s often something to sing about!

Football is for the dreamer! Even "half glass empty" fans like Tony Marsh must secretly hope that we can win something at the start of each season. That’s what it’s all about!

For those amongst you who want me to state it again I support Everton, but I am a realist.
I put Cheshire as its my base, I have houses in Winchester, Twickenham, Bristol and Sterling, so should I put all those down as my location, oh plus a property abroad.
I have aspriations hich is why I am successful, I am also pragmatic, something some of you should try and be.

And as for the MORON who said they would not cheer if Everton scored, muppet, when Have a stated that, maybe simple comprhension lessons wolud be good then you may progress on to somehting better, although I doubt it!

Being a football fan of any club is about dreaming that one day it might happen. It’s our club and your dream. The better your team is doing the nearer you get to the dream, so you naturally get a bit excited. I work with a good few fans of Doncaster Rovers. They dream as well and at the moment they are on a real high and are a pleasure to be with. Sorry to hear you are embarrassed by enthusiasm and optimism. Have you tried prozac?

Chris for someone quite happy to tell everyone that you have a multitude of properties and use luddites in a description, perhaps a better understanding of spelling and grammar may further your case. Hypocrisy is not a good way to put forward an argument.
As for aspirations, well, if you’re going to climb a mountain, you don’t look at half way up and say that’s as far as I’m going.
Football is always about hopes and dreams, take that away and you’ll have the controllers wanting premier games played abroad next!!
