Pathetic

Now I don't want Kirkby but obviously will do what the majority want, but if it's a win-win deal like Bully says, why is he emailing supporters with Kirkby addresses for help in persuading the good people of Kirkby to say yes? If it was good for them they would agree without any outside influence.

With growing opposition to the scheme from neighbouring councils, Kirkby residents and the Minister for Culture & Sport to name a few, I can only see this as an act of desperation on his part. No other CEO in his right mind would do such a stupid thing.
The flaws in the Tescodome development are becoming more transparent by the day and when it finally collapses, I would put my house on Wyness being given the chop and Kenwright, as he always does, coming up smelling of roses (I never wanted to leave Goodison).....you just watch.

Regardless of how we finish this season our only hope of keeping the likes of Lescott depend upon a bigger financial base. ie; a new stadium.
Please, please, please, in desperation and for the umteenth time I ask, nay I beg, any one or all of the KEIOC including Toffeeweb managers to state WHERE and HOW a new stadium can be built within the city boundary.
Any takers?

Dick I know you live miles away but try this very sport for size...................GOODISON PARK, still owned by the club (the only thing Wyness hasn’t sold yet) and as discussed to death by a qualified architect in Tom Hughes and in the chap that worked in redeveloping St James Park who was taken aside by Kenwright at the AGM after questioning that Goodison couldn’t be redeveloped. Kenwright claimed in the Times that rebuilding Goodison would cost £200m when even with a modicum of reason the rebuild would be gradual and proportionally funded by completed sections having been increased capacity and facility wise. The majority of surrounding property is vacant, the vehicle hire company outside the Park End is on rented land from LCC and the school behind the Bullens Road is due to close in the next two years, none of which has been broadcast by Keith Wyness. The Kirkby project will cost a substantial amount of money which will have to be borrowed from banks, the global steel market is currently in a mexican standoff with China trying to buy the majority of controlling interests in both supply and manufacturing so the club’s costs are to be well in excess of £100m and they wont even own the place when its built, tie that in to a terrible location, terrible access for the majority of fans going and it just sounds less appealing by the day, how much of Wyness’ promised profits will be available when he will have created a massive debt for the club for the build and substantial rent too?

I personally don’t think Kenwright DOES want to leave Goodison. For whatever reason, and it’s almost certainly financial, he feels that it’s the only way we can get a new ground. Any other idea is beyond our financial capabilities.Sadly.

I voted to relocate. My first game at Goodison was in 1970 as a 10 year old when we beat WBA to win the league. Those who voted yes did so with a heavy heart and for one reason only. The Premier League is about money. Moyes has said that to get to that next level we need money. Money Money Money Money Money. The bottom line in this once great game is cash cash cash cash cash cash and more cash. I would be chesed off if we had a Chairman and CEO who were not hard nosed business men. They have to maximise EFC’s financial clout, sentiment unfortunately does not come into it.

Looking forward to Kirkby, new facilities, not wooden stands. Extra cash for the team. Its a great move.

As for one game aboroad in a few years, a good innovative idea that is well worth exploring.

I taught at a Primary School in Kirkby and know where the Head was asked to hand out a load of leaflets for the kids to take home against the move. The said Head was a big blue and all for it so they got binned!

At risk of hijacking this thread I agree with Mike Kay on the game abroad issue. An "on the up" team like us we could make a lot of people take notice. Bigger fanbase, bigger income. Im up for it but it will or will not go ahead regardless of what any fans think.

Ron and Mike

Whilst I agree the Premier League is all about money will you please explain where it is going to come from?
An increased capacity in Kirby does not automatically mean an increase in bums on seats. If it is simply increasing prices then it could be done just as easily at Goodison as at Kirkby.

I am against Kirkby partly because it is outside the boundary but mainly and primarilly because of the transport.
Do you realise the problems there will be in getting there - not so much to Kirkby itself but to the stadium.

From all acoounts it will be a park and walk or bus for us all - a 30 minute minimum walk each way or for those who choose to stay until the end of a match an hours wait for a bus drive.

It is not going to be the experience we have at Goodison, there will only be a few pubs around and it will be a totally different match day experience for us all - and not for the better.
It will only drive fans away and I hope to God I am wrong but i fear the worst - we will be playing in a brand new, quiet, half empty stadium that will fast become a millstone around our necks and losing money hand over fist.

Dont forget - almost every week there are little bits of spend that are becoming evident - far from getting a free stadium Wyness himself is now admitting (conveniently after the vote) that we will need to spend £50-75m on the stadium and then he goes on about building external transport links all at EFC cost!!

It is going to be a nightmare - why else do you think the club is so so reluctant to be open and honest about what it entails

Please explain where all this extra income is coming from cos there won’t be any extra people there to spend it

Mike Kay: you’ve confirmed my theory that the type of person who could agree to the premiership’s 39th yankee-doodle game plan would definitely have voted YES to a glitzy stadium in a retail park.

Well I hate the idea of the 39th game but approve of the stadium move. I understand the reasoning for the 39th game, money, but don’t think it can be done while maintaining the balance and integrity of each team playing each other twice over the season. The stadium is needed, better facilities are a must for a team to attract the best players and finaciers.

"... why is he emailing supporters with Kirkby addresses for help in persuading the good people of Kirkby to say yes?"

Simple; like it or not, he’s doing his job. He has a mandate, he has a vision, he’s doing what he believes is needed (or prudent) to see it though. Like him or loath him this shows he’s thinking and planning and taking action. No less than what I’d expect a CE to do to earn his moolah.

Hey "Bren" no-last-name: Why don’t you and the other angry little xenophobes on this list who have a problem with ’your’ league exporting matches to other countries grow a brain and see the scheme for what it is? Not a Yank ploy to wrest your sport from you, but an attempt by ’your’ league to tap into the wallets of your hated foreigners. This isn’t about the States, Asia, or Oceania stealing your precious possession, you child. Instead of a "yankee doodle game plan", perhaps you might want to wise up and call it what it is -- a John Bull greed initiative.

I’m getting sick of reading this bigoted shit on this website from anonymous posters like this clown regarding the FA’s big international idea. You have a problem with the US or some other country? Get in line. There are better and more constructive ways to exercise your grievances than to take it out on people on an internet message board; people who if you were to act in a normal manner would probably want to be your friend.

Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but isn’t this thread meant to be about Kirkby, before man of mystery "Bren" decided to sidetrack us with his nationalistic little aside there?

Stig take a chill pill but accept your anti xenophobe statements, PS Bren can be short for Brendan or Brenda. DM was on the radio after the game saying what he thinks and that he’d like 5000 season ticket holders be given free tickets all expenses paid for this 39th game. Funny how the big four especially Man U and RS would be playing a virtual home game no matter where they played so imagine if you would Man U v Derby County at Beijing with 50,000 Man Utd fans and not one Derby fan in the place? How about this one to promote the golden game to the world; each match is worth £5m to the clubs involved then why not make the points irrelevent to league standings and donate the proceeds from the game to a local charity(s) selected by the teams - say orphanages or to combat disease in that counrty? You wont see this of course because this is just another greedy bastard move by the greedy bastards stealing a living like Wyness and his like. Do you not think the agents would use this extra game to demand another zero on the end of their player’s contracts? The one group least likely to gain from any of this would be Joe Pleb the fan.

Stig Meacham, I’m afraid you couldn’t be more confused or wrong. My opposition to both the 39th game plan and the Kirkby plan is based on my dislike and distrust of the SPIN and LIES which are tied in with their type of promotional packaging. The two plans are similar only in that sense and my comment had absolutely nothing to do with nationality. In fact, as an overseas resident your comment about xenophobia is quite ironic.

Roy,

It’s probably for the same reason that all those local Councillors slip leaflets through your letterbox.

I mean, if it’s good for you, then you’ll vote for them no matter what, right?

Thanks Gav and others for your reponses. It seems to me that whatever path we take we will not be financially well off for quite some time. In the Interim a sustained period of success in the Champions Cup is the only hope of keeping our best players
Please do not think for one minute that distance has in any way has diluted my passion for our club. Everton is my first thought at daybreak and at night it is in my prayers.
Some, including family, think I am mad about the club and secretly I have to agree.
