Metro

Just a short note asking if any of you fellas and ladies read the Metro today.
In an interview yesterday Nigel Reo-Coker was stating how the diving/play-acting in football is a joke, saying you could hardly call it a man's game anymore.
The Metro, in their wisdom, then put a little piece in with the top 5 divers listed. They are Klinnsman, Michael Owen, Robert Pires, C Ronaldo & ANDY JOHNSON!
I am fucking fuming, what a lazy, incorrect and generally piss-poor piece of journalism this is.
I am in the process of writing to the rag to let them know my feelings. I wouldn't normally but with the current wave of posts about the lack of or negative attention we receive I feel if we don't start hitting back then it will only continue or get worse.

You tell 'em, John. A clear case of a reputation unfairly earned and that will be almost impossible to get rid of. There have been two clear dives this season by Everton players that I have seen and neither was by AJ ? one was by Tim Cahill, the other by the self-appointed Mr Honesty himself, Phil Neville. Sadly, I think Johnson is going to be denied many more genuine penalties before his time at Goodison is up.

At least John, you’ll be able to back up your complaint as when Mr Hackett spent his time looking at incidents involving AJ with Moyesey he did indeed agree that the VAST majority should have been penalties.

Yep I read that article this morning while still asleep-pissed me off no end!!
For all you that didnt read it here it is...
Andrew Johnson
In 2004/05 Johnson won and converted 7 penalties for Palace. Jose Mourinho and Arse Wenger both accused the ill-balanced frontman of chicanery after he moved to Everton.
The Toffees responded by claiming Mourinho’s comments were ’wholly unacceptable and possibly defamatory.’ Possibly.
What a load of shite...

Piss poor journalism is right John! We hardly get enough media covergae as it is and when we do it’s unsubstantiated shite like this.
When you write to them ask them to name one incident over the past 2 seasons in a blue shirt when he’s dived to win a penalty. And how the fuck does Saint Stevie G constantly get overlooked when the diving debate is brought up???

Or is it just the fact that he does go down easily too? But that’s probably due to the fact he weighs fuck all.

AJ didnt dive tonight did he, infact he was fowled in the box and STILL didnt go down.... which ended up as the Osman goal. Fair play to him I just hope he loses this tag sooner rather than later!

No he didn’t go down when he was FOULED, but he does have a reputation, and it can’t all be fabricated. As I recall, he had that reputation before we signed him.

If Johnson is pulled up for diving surely this man should be too

AJ dived 20 timesa game for Palace so I’m with the artical. He’s cut it down at Everton though. Can’t remember him doing it this season, though last season there were a few cases.

John......Don’t waste your ink on a paper like Metro. After all the person who wrote the article is hardly at the top of his profession if he is writing for this rag. If people had to pay for it then it would be out of circulation by now. If you do continue to pick it up just do what most people do, that is the crossword and sudoku. Then leave it on the train or bus, again like most people do.

Why should we expect decent standards of journalism from the press when even the editor of this discussion can’t get it right. Any close analysis of Neville’s alleged dive against Arsenal will show that it was no dive, he just fell over. I don’t even think he was in the penalty area was he? That said I do get sick of the pompous attitude of journalists and supporters when it comes to diving. In every single cricket match fielders spend much of their time pretending that batsmen are out when they’re not, and batsmen pretend they’re not out when they know they are. Yet there isn’t anything like the clamour of self-righteous pontificating that you get over the diving issue in football.
