Moyes and Kenwright

Comments (37)

A number of recent posts talk about how good Moyes is and how Kenwright must go yesterday.

I wish these people would get real. Both of these people back each other (publically) totally. There is no hint of any discord between them. So if we trust Moyes ? and we do and must ? then we have to trust his belief in Kenwright. After all, he is the one who knows the real Kenwright much better than (virtually) any supporter!

I think there is a significant possibility that if one goes, then so will the other (shortly after).

Where are these posts? Personally I think it is just posts for the sake of posting. In other words, nothing else to moan at, so have to think of something.

I support whats said above. Whether you like what BK has been doing or not, the main priority is the long term success of the club. He has not (like others) saddled the club with huge long-term debt problems that would be hard to ever pay off. Is all well and good spending £25m plus on a player but in the end you have to pay that money off and a number of Premier League teams are not doing this...

He was the man who took a risk on Moyes (at a time when a select group of has been managers that got fired from one job and then got another). He was the man who backed Moyes in public when some said he had taken the club as far as he could. He is the man who since being in total control at the top has turned the club from 15th-ish in the league to 5th-ish in the league...

What Chairman is better in the Premier League???? Can?t think of too many!

Its only because of the stadium debate that Kenwright gets any complaints - take that issue away and nobody would moan about him.

Simple as that. Him & Moyes are the best thing to happen at Everton for years - fact.

Can you say...can.....worms....open.

I was speaking to my mates the other week after the first leg against KP Bran Flakes and we got onto Kenwright.

One phrase used, and I think sums him up was, "He is Blue through and through but let’s be honest he is a bit of a tit."

He loves the clubs and tried to to do what’s best but we are limited so he gets his showbizzy mates to help.

There are a lot more clubs with worse chairmen but I wish he would just shut the fuck up with his infrequent interviews when we are doing well and then turns into Nyarko/the invisible man when we are going through a rocky patch.

We could do better but we could also do a hell of a lot worse.......but in the end he is a bit of a tit.

I think Moyes and Kenwrights respected roles are different. It doesn?t matter whether Kenwright is a tit, a true blue, involved in showbusiness or any other crap. His purpose is to support Moyes and bankroll the club when we need major signings etc. In my opinion he does that.

Moyes is the guy that runs this club. I am prepared to be patient, because he is slowly progressing the club to where it should be. 5 years ago, I would have doubted if we will ever win another trophy in my lifetime, but now I feel like we can genuinely compete in all the competitions we are involved in. The semi-final this year is valuable experience and should be looked on as an achievement, not a missed opportunity.

Why would we want to change what is a consistent formula in Moyes and Kenwright?

All I can say is that for the majority of years that Moyes and Kenwright have been in control of our beloved blues we have had a team we are proud to support. It is great to shout about being an Evertonian again after years of stick. These two are the best combination we have had in a long time and I think people should stop banging on about posts generated by so called supporters with too much time on their hand.

I for one stand behind our team through the good and the bad. Its what makes us true Everton fans. And to David and Bill, I thank you both for bringing the pride to our club. May you both continue.

Chris Masey he back’s Moyes by putting the club further and further into debt.

None of the money available is his or his friends on the board is it?? But he and his cronies will be quick to take the money when they sell their shares you can count on that. What will we be left with???

Everything is a quick fix solution for Kenwright. I can’t stand him or his idiotic comments and people in his position are only interested in one thing THE MONEY!!!!

So sad he uses this true blue image to mask his lies and empty promises. Can’t believe some Everton fans are so gullible.

Reading the postings above I am reminded of the farce that is going on across the Park. With the money and backing the RS have received they should be sitting back watching the trophies and money roll in. Instead they are in turmoil. Why? Because they sold their soul to the highest bidder and still flaunt themselves like ladies of the night on London Road (Allegedly). What we have is a blueprint for every other team.
1) A chairman who cares about his club more than profits going into his offshore account.
2) A chairman who backs his manager.
3) A chairman who has given us stability.
4) A chairman who has given us our pride back.

Yes I know he is a Lovey. Yes I know he is not a billionairre. BUT he and Moyes are the best team in the Premiership. It is working well. Let’s not try to fix something that is not broken.

Oh look someones said something positive about BIll again - time to jump up and down on him again!
James, you would be he first to complain if we didn’t spend any money so if he hasn’t gone any, wehre else is it going to come from. Where do you think everybody elses money comes from. Do you think that the Glaziers are giving Man Utd all their hard earned cash to spend!

For some reason a selection of people seem convinced that Bill is only in it for the money - well I think he’s in the wrong job then as not many people make money out of football clubs.

He’s put what he’s got into Everton and has done a decent job with it, he gave Davey the job and held on to him a few years ago when a number of supporters would have got rid, and deserves some credit for the success we are currently having - whatever the doubters say.

As for his only appearing when things are going well - well that is as much down to media as anything else - nobody is interested in Everton when we are struggling at the bottom and losing every week.

Give the guy a break and for once leave an article alone that says something positive about him (you don’t have to make the same comments on every one you know!)

Chris, it?s a sweet thought that Blue Bill is not in it for the money, as you claim that "not many people make money out of football clubs" but the facts are that those who invest big in Everton have made substantially more money than they put in by the time they come to cash out.

Paul Gregg was the last who made a hefty profit, when he sold his shares to Robert Earl. Before him, it was a certain Peter Johnson, who made out like a bandit, even though he got only a paltry £897 per share when Kenwright finally bought him out.

So, when the time comes for the next transition, expect to see Bill Kenwright handsomely rewarded for his years of effort and dedication in the form of a massive return on his investment in Everton.

I think in Kenwright we have a chairman who has all the attributes that Everton love, he may not be the best or the richest but he gives 110% day in day out for Everton purely for his love for the club. He will for one reason or another have to give it up someday but to me he will always go down as a great chairman!
Allan Hobbs
12   Posted 21/02/2008 at 15:12:05

Ever considered that he might just deserve is Michael? Is he not entitled to some return when he?s clearly worked very hard to get us where we are today? If you?re still unhappy with the chairman we currently have, then I put it to you that you?ll never be happy whoever is in charge.
Michael Kenrick
13   Posted 21/02/2008 at 15:10:43

Dan, I think it helps to keep a grip on reality. Blue Bill is the Everton Chairman, but that is not his only job ? not even his main job. He is a theatre impressario, putting on plays in London and other parts of the country. That?s what he spends most of his time doing.

But there are some who believe he is still spending 24/7 looking for new investment for Everton so I suppose it?s not too much of a stretch for them to believe that he spends 110% (whatever the hell that means) day-in, day-out for Everton. I just know there is no way that is true.
Allan Hobbs
14   Posted 21/02/2008 at 15:18:01

Come on Michael, you’re a smart guy - do you seriously believe that chairman of anything let alone football clubs spend 100% of their time being, well, chairmen!?!?!?
Michael Kenrick
15   Posted 21/02/2008 at 15:18:43

Allan, I don?t know why you need to be so aggressive about this. It?s simply a fact that people who invest a lot of money in Everton make a lot more money from their Everton shares when they leave. I said nothing about being happy or unhappy with him or the return on his investment. What is you issue? I was just responding to a stupid statement about him working "110% day-in day-out for Everton". If people believe something that cannot possibly be true, what value is there in anything else they may have to say?
Allan Hobbs

Chris I will admit the ship has been steadied in the last few years but in my opinion that has been down to Moyes’s abilities and not Kenwright’s. In all honesty i think Kenwright has held Moyes back for years.

Kenwright only gave the Moyes the job on Walter Smith’s recomendation it wasn’t a masterstroke from himself.

I think Kenwright has gone as far as he can at Everton and if he’s a true blue like he say’s he is sell the club to people who can really maximise it’s full potential and go and buy a season ticket like real fan’s do.

I feel Moyes’s talent as a manager deserves more than what Kenwright can offer him.

As he said it himself we can’t even compete with Spur’s in the transfer market so what chance the bigger clubs??

I?ve given up trying to expose what an incompetent fraudster the "Rabbit out of the hat" is.
People will believe whatever they want to believe and, I suppose, it's their prerogative and as they say history will tell.
It's what he?s going to do rather than what he?s done that I am more concerned with because, once that journey is made up the East Lancs, there will be no turning back.

Michael, when people say someone gives 110% (cliched and impossible yes) it doesnt suggest that they spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at it. It means they do their best and I believe BK does that and quite well! Ill remember tho if I ever need to give a percentage of effort on my job to say "roughly 25% as I only work 40 of the 168 hours in a week"

20   Posted 21/02/2008 at 15:37:34

As far as I am concerned the progress on the pitch has nothing to do with off the pitch situation. The fact is that Moyes single handily stabilized the club and all the progress is down to him, moreover he did it in spite of Kenwright and Wyness who are outstripping the club of all his assets and outsourcing every activity plunging Everton further into debt.

Is it coincidental that we had to sell in January and balance the books once more? The money for Yakubu were secured trough another loan, gambling on a possible CL spot, every time I read Joe Beardwood?s analysis I am shaking my head in disbelief so to praise Kenwright for the job Moyes has done is ridiculous

People have very short memories, who can forget what position finacially and positionally in the league, we were in when Kenright tooks the reins from, I’ll line my own pockets Johnson, Moyes must be given sensible money to spend, as the tv and sky money will not last forever, all bubbles burst in the end. If look across the park they are close to being a Leeds United, the sooner the better. Stay at Goodison make the place a fortress, and take on Europes best. A team of proper footballers will always prevail over prima donna’s. Once a Blue always a Blue, last 16 here we come.

I dont want to appear uneducated but I really don't know much about Kenwright apart from he is the Chairman of course and that he is a true blueblooded Evertonian. Whatever people say, nobody can question his commitment to this club, but if supporters who frequent more games at Goodison see fit that he is not the right man to lead us forward I will not argue with it.

I for one have no beef with Moyes as the manager or Kenwright as the Chairman. I have never met either and don't suppose I ever will, but they appear as nice people who want what is best for the club, and that sits fine with me. I hope with some silverware hopefully on its way to Goodison in the not too distant future people can resolve their differences with the running of the club.

Personally, whilst acknowledging Bill is an Evertonian and all the benefits that brings, I also happen to think he is far from ideal.

The progress made by us on the pitch is down to Moyes - end of. I have noticed that Davie has to keep demanding money to strengthen and BK has generally found something, but often only at the last minute. He appointed Moyes and has backed him so no complaints there.

Off the pitch, Kirkby is not the right move for Everton and could yet undo Moyes’ work if we get saddled with the £100m + debt that this project is now likely to create. There will be less to spend on players, not more.

In other areas, the Club falls well short. Ticketing, catering, merchandising, PR, Wyness are all subjects that deserve much closer scrutiny by Bill, but as others have pointed out he’s too busy doing other things to address these issues properly. How did he not know about Dunford and his shares in Pro-activ leading to the Rooney conflict of interest? Just one example.

He does his bit for trying to raise the profile of the Club, but Joseph, Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Mastermind have been more like own goals as he’s come across a bit indecisive. Fortress, NTL & most sickeningly, the Kings Dock fiasco, have really shown him up to be less than competent in some areas.

Conclusion: Nice fella, Evertonian, but not really up to it and Kirkby will be his epitaph. Shame. That said, if there’s nobody else.....

It?s quite wrong to suggest that Moyes and Kenwright are joined at the hip. Have you never worked for someone you know is less than the real deal? But the boss pays the wages, likes what you do for him and bathes in your reflected glory.
Moyes has taught Bullshit Bill the business and will probably end up making him very, very rich. But don't confuse the two of them, ease!

Laurence sorry but that is absolute twaddle, have you ever heard of an emplyee giving his employer bell end in public unless they are looking for a P45? Get real mate, Luvvie boy is living a dream perpetuated by a manager given to him on a plate by another man and not his own search so its down to luck not a great relationship. A few times DM has hinted as much as he could without threatening his job with a full blown tirade that he needs to be supported to take the next step so maybe he is finally getting to terms with getting the blame aimed at him for not going out in the past and buying big as his hands were tied. The more I read of DMs quotes the more I sense carefully chosen words of humility which support the "it’s out of his hands" scenario rather than let’s do a Doddy and build a shrine to the blue rinse fake.

We can look at the facts though. Everton are a better club now then they were 10 years ago.

Favourites for relegation for so many years, now favourites to break the top 4. Not a bad transition for a club operating on a shoe string by a guy who loves this club and has put more into it than anybody on this site.

I appreciate Michael puts time and effort into this site, but mate at the end of the day, you are just words. Kenwright actually produces. Regardless of the intermittant progress, we have and are still progressing under the current regime.

Of course he is going to make money when he sells, at the end of the day, like all of us he has to pay the bills. But I am 100% certain he is not motivated by money when it comes to Everton. He wants what you want, and what I want, and what Moyes wants.

We could have gone down the road that injects 100m into the club, but really, out of all the clubs out of the top 4 who have had major financial injections, are any of them in a better position than us? No.

Now this here is the reality, what we say, think, feel. Whatever our opinions are, they are just that, opinions. If anybody wants to try and make a difference than they are taking the wrong path bitching and moaning here.

Why don’t we enjoy the fact that we are improving all the time, both senior and youth. I know I am, and I am going to enjoy tonight’s game.

On Bill: Why the hell shouldn?t he make a profit when he does finally leave the club? would you build up a damaged business (as we were when he took over) and make it a winner again and not expect a profit? Hell Youtubes owners spent fuck all on their business and they made nearly £1billion.

And he has backed us as much as he can. He?s not some mass billionaire that can take out a £100 million loan and pay it off over a few years as Glazer does.

Roman Ambromovich is said, this morning, to have so far invested £578M in Chelsea FC. By common consent Bill Kenwright has put next to nothing into Everton. But who has done the better job and, more importantly, who would you rather have as Chairman? I know that I pose a retorical question for only a fool would wish to swop the sincerity, loyalty and zeal of a true Evertonian for the rubels of a Russian oliarch. Roman may well have BOUGHT temporary success for Chelsea but Blue Bill is BUILDING a dynasty at Everton.
