Well that went pretty well didn’t it!
Was a bit concerned about the slow start, but a brilliant performance in the end. The Yak shows why he’s worth the cash (love the way he left those 2 defenders on their arses for that second) and AJ gets his shooting boots on.
Fernandes clearly needs a little more match time to get sharpness back and Howard let in a howler, but it’s not a night for negativity. Best. Win. In. Europe. Ever. 6-1 on the night, 2-0 on aggregate. 7 wins in UEFA on the trot. Wish I was there. COYB!!!!

A good all-round performance from the team! But my MOM is certainly Jags! Nothing passes this man...He’s a rock!

[sarcasm] Well if we learnt one thing tonight, its that all those who were calling for Johnsons head were right.

Its obvious he can?t finish and is holding the team back. Get rid before his value plummets. [/sarcasm]

Tonight?s match (watched in Moscow courtesy of Everton TV):

Goodison - you sounded heaven sent!

Yak - surely the equivalent of 100 hail marys and a good few our fathers

AJ - the boy is going nowhere - that 25 yard dipper was the icing on the cake but that lad would bleed for the club, ran all day and two cracking goals.

Peanut - he?s too good, simple as. £2.5m - TK Maxx don?t do better steals than that

Fernandes - hit and miss to start but the boy passes like a heat-seaking surface-to-air missile - sign him NOW

Arteta - plays like the very best soft porn

Could go on but...

Moyes - wouldn?t swap you for anyone

Is anybody else suprised they weren’t put through the wringer with a nervy and narrow aggregate victory?! Brilliant result. What was most pleasing is we look like we can score from all areas, not to mention having two high class strikers. Johnson really proved his worth tonight- I am made up for him - what a second goal! I also thought Neville was miles better than last week . The jury does remain out on Fernandes; he just doesn’t look the player he was last season. Lets hope he comes good, i do think that the class he possesses will out in the long run. Great to see the confidence and banter from the players - the much talked about spirit in the squad is a joy to watch. God, doesn’t Everton winning like that just brighten up the workin week!!

AJ, was immense tonight, and its tonight?s performance that I am celebrating as his yardstick. Not the derby goals. Ran and ran, but ran in the middle, and that?s where he will score the goals. Both goals though were both from outside of the box, take that Van Nisterooy, can you do it???

Are these lads the greatest team ever in the history of sport? Tonight was exactly what we needed. AJ got a confidence boost, Yak made amends and got closer to the psychological 20-goal mark, and we ran up the score to give us a lift.

Kieran Kinsella: got my figures wrong earlier and had to double check but tonight puts Yakubu on 15 goals. Johnson is on eight, which is only a couple shy of double figures. Might not sound like a big deal but it will do Andy?s confidence the world of good. I didn?t see the game but perhaps playing with another striker helped his game tonight.

Hopefully Moyes will want to really go for broke over the next two games, City and Portsmouth, now that he has a full squad. I?d love to see him pick an attacking midfield with Arteta and Pienaar now back, with AJ and Yak up front. With the above mentioned strikers coming in to form it could be the right time to try it.

Good for Brann : at 2-0 down they did what they had to do and attack at full pace from the off. Half an hour later, no goals. The real game on the night started then.

I prefer 4 5 1 with our players myself, but AJ and Yak in 4 4 2 looked wonderful, and not just for scoring fabulous goals.

Not just job done, 8-1.

Excellent performance from the Blues and a truly enjoyable game to be at. I wouldn’t say we even got our of first gear and we still beat the Norwegian champions 6-1. More clinical than quality but some of the football and goals where superb.

In terms of team selection for City I haven’t got a clue. 4-5-1 or 4-4-2? 4-5-1s probably the safer bet but can you drop Johnson after a much improved performance and a brace? I’m not sure.

For me if we do go 4-4-2 then Cahill and Carsley can’t play together. Its alright if one of them is in there but we need a creative midfielder alongside one of them. Either Osman or Fernandes have to start for me so that we have creativity left, right and centre.

A word on the one touch football towards the end. Pienaar, Arteta and Fernandes where taking the piss and its great to see we have some genuinely talented footballers at the club. Not to mention Cahill and Osman who are also two superb footballers.

Great performance tonight. I?ve been critical of Johnson?s form this season but have to admit he gave a wonderful display tonight. What was really pleasing was the understanding between Johnson and Yakubu. At last 4-4-2 appears to be working. Piennar too was superb. Really looking forward to the forthcoming games and who said Cahill could not play in a four-man midfield. Once again he was the inspiration for breaking the deadlock. His exchange of passes for the opener and his final flick superbly taken by Yakubu was football at its very best.

Fernandes once again was disappointing, much too casual in his approach and too many passes going astray. Moyes has some serious thinking to do now. Should he stick with 4-4-2 or revert back to 4-5-1? Osman can only play in a 4-5-1 line up. My preferred option would be 4-4-2 with Piennar replacing Osman out wide and Fernandes an option from the bench.

Might just be me, but watchin on telly (got sinusitis so couldn’t be there) did Jagielka go to block their free kick that went in and then pull his foot back, perhaps thinking it was down Howard’s throat?

Not to excuse Tim’s rather girly flap but did he perhaps think it was gonna be blocked. Could be wrong and as I said I’m not well but just wondered...

Otherwise, after a slow start some good signs. Fiorentina will be tough but very winnable. But we need to start games at a higher tempo than we have been lately.

If we come out the starting blocks pretty quickly on Monday there is no reason why we cannot pick up 3 points. On our game we are a better team with more goalscoring and matchwinnig options.

Guess the run in starts here.

Gerry Western, the 4-4-2 looked awful in the first half. We only looked creative from out wide and Cahill and Carsley where offering nothing going forward. I?ll repeat it again passing sideways and backwards doesn?t do it for me and won?t break a team like Man City down.

In the second half it started to click. We had creativity from the left, from the right and centrally in Pienaar, Arteta and Fernandes. I think you're being harsh on Fernandes again like a lot of fans who just don?t give him the rub of the green. He gave the ball away four times in 45 minutes. Hardly embarrassing and most of his passing was forward thinking and effective. Either him or Osman have to start centrally against City or we just won?t break them down.

Straight from the top drawer, what a win.
And look at the talent we had on the bench.
Baines, Yobo, Ossie, Big Vic, Frenandes, JV, i could go on and on.
If we can stay injury free with this squad some poor bastard is going to be on the end of one hell of a beating if we fire.

What a joy that was to watch. The second time this season we have won by 5 goals or more, and this time in European competition. I was watching on the internet from work and lost it when we scored our second. Instinctually I pumped my fists and yelled "Get in"!!! My coworkers all looked up and I just laughed. That was the best embarrassing moment that I have had and I don’t regret it. After that I was able to yell at each of our next 4 goals without having to explain myself. What a difference it made having Arteta, Pienaar and Yakubu all on the pitch at the same time. That was the first time that has happened in two months and it’s no surprise we thrashed them. Then with Fernandes in the middle in the second half we looked even more threatening. I’m pleased that we’re offering Carsley a new deal, he has earned it, but with the way that we can attack a holding midfielder will not be so mandatory. I can see Manny playing the defensive midfielder role for us next season with us using the tactic of "defend from the front" much more often. This was the perfect result to go into the City match on Monday. What a day, a fantastic day.

Mike Coates,
I?m in Guangzhou and watched the game live on TV. Ben sports has all footy, there are five footy channels, so you can choose and watch the games every week. You need to get Philippines satellite. Though wait ?till March as they are making changes.
Also can check out www.sina.com, the feed is spot on and costs 4 rmb per game paid for through your mobile. You may need to get a Chinese friend to help you set it up.
I have Everton TV but to be honest it is a waste of time as the feed is head wrecking and you will be lucky to listen to the radio link without it buffering every 20 seconds. Forget the tv, it never works... not in China anyway, must have something to do with filtering???
Fiorentina..bring it on. COYB

Amazing, Fantastic, but may i be allowed one tiny moan , fernandes is NOT up to standard for what we may eventually be asked to pay for him. I have said this before ( not published) he is to lightweight on the ball, to lightweight in the tackle, and overall not the kind of player we need to progress or take us to champions legue qualification, iam not being negative just realistic, a very proud BLUE, ps This site is the best on the net.

How many better instinctive strikers are there in the Premiership than Yakubu?. Over the last four years I can only think of Henry who has that same style of play in his locker. No backlift instinctive shots.. 15 goals already and he didnt even have a pre-season training with Everton and didnt make his debut until September 1st.. That to me makes him the best striker signing of the season and to think we could have paid 6 million for Smith or Nugent..Almost makes me pass out with relief.. That was a fabtatsic team performance and thanks so much that we have Steven Pienaar back in our team who is probably the biggest bargain of the season,Dortmund must have one hell of a team if they let him out on loan..The boy simply makes us tick and he has took the burden off Arteta so much this season..The defence was simply solid and a word for that man Andy Johnson..If ever a player has deserved some goals then it was him, missed alot of the season yet still has 8 goals..AJ is a confidence player but when he is on form I am thankful we have him for and not against us..I have always said he should shoot more as I remembered from his Palace days he had a powerful shot on him..That has to give him confidence..Could still end up with 15 himself yet if the dreaded injuries stay away..And of course we still have the young duo to come from the bench if we need them which is a nice comfortable option to have now..My only concern is Manny Fernandes..I know he is short of fitness but at this rate I think he is going to have to up his game by another five levels for Moyes to consider signing him,he just doesnt look the same player this time around, not only is he casual on the ball but his passing is average and he is sitting alot deeper this time around..I hope he improves and I hope we sign both him and Steven Piennar but if it come to a crunch for Moyes I think I know who he will go for and right now it wont be Manny..

Jags wasn't at fault for the goal it was, a grass cutter that the keeper should have been behind all the way, but wasnt? He pulled his leg back because it was bread and butter for the keeper, the only thing that should have been a problem for howard would have been a deflection off jags trying to clear it, hence jags left it for the keeper. I still think Howard is a good keeper though, just made a mistake, as long as he saves them for games we win 6-1 and not next week at Man City I?m happy.

I was wondering where Brann would be placed if they were an English side? Would they be mid-table Championship or would they be lower?

I know they won the league, and are CL qualifiers, and I know they were in their pre-season, but wow... that wasn't a very good squad out there.
