On yer bike!

Just seen the KEIOC article claiming Merseytravel have stated they don't have the 163 buses needed to transport blues to and from the games.

http://www.keioc.net/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=62&cntnt01returnid=15

What got me was the response from Mr Wyness (or so they claim), that he expects 1000 fans to cycle to the game as part of the Governements Green Policy. Surely this isn't true? It's like Marie Antoinette claiming "let them eat cake" during the French Revolution when Parisiens were starving! Who was it who wanted people to cycle to find jobs in the Thatcher days?

The travel arrangements are a major issue for me regarding Kirkby move, even more than leaving the city boundaries, and I have heard there will be steep fines for people parking in the shopping centre car parks - so this really needs to be addressed as part of the whole process.

Would you really cycle to Kirkby on a cold, wet January evening down the M57 for a midweek game?

It was Norman Tebbitt that told us all to get on our bikes and there is , as you point out, a striking resemblance in attitude.

The idea of cycling to Kirkby is ludicrous, even people who live in Kirkby wouldn?t cycle to the game. It?s a cop out the club can use when the whole thing goes belly up.

Are myself, my wife and my 5+7 year old daughters expected to cycle from Scotland? If so where do we park our bikes during the match.

Joe McParland, at the designated cycle stand in the town centre that has the capacity for one hundred bicycles!

More worrying for me, is that Keith Wyness says there is scope for a 75,000 seater stadium. This really isn?t the case as it would mean a whole new transport infrastructure in Kirkby.

They should have looked more seriously at Scotland Road instead of acting like nodding dogs when it comes to Tesco.

Just out of interest, can anyone let us know if they’ve ever been on their bike to Goodison Park to see a game? (and where did you lock it up?)

This sorry saga goes from farce to farce.

How has Kenwright let our beloved club get to this state?

Let the bethren know the answer, Bill, before it is too late.
Only you have the answer.

"I?ve just seen on the KEOIC website..."

Is that before or after you posted it there? What the hell is so mental about cycling a few miles to a game? I do it often in London when I see Everton there.

It?s just typical of backward looking attitude of some fans and another rubbish attempt to attack the board.

Honestly grow up will you. Global warming will change the way people travel and why not embrace the innovation of having loads of fans cycling instead of whining about it?

What some people seem to forget is that the planners/GONW will see it as a good thing all the park ?n ride ?n walk stuff - it's what the govt wants (Its greener), it will happen to Liverpool too with their proposed new ground, any problems we will have to overcome with our 50,000 ground will be worse for LFC with their 70,000 ground - thats 20,000 more people who will have to park ?n ride ?n walk to their games and before anyone says - them being only 4 miles nearer to the city centre wont make their situation any easier than ours whatsoever.

The hot air on this site adds far more to global warming than cycling ever will. I agree everyone should cycle to the match and only eat globally warmed hamburgers at half-time :)

Wynes is more bent than Robert Mugabe. I wish we could have a proper vote with a level playing field for both for and against. We all know the Club and Tesco had the radio and newspapers on their side. I'm a season ticket holder and got a vote, but i know fans who follow the club everywhere who have no season ticket ? how can the club deny these great fans a vote?

Chris Roberts, some people do look around other websites and find stiff not posted here or the Echo or anywhere.
This isn?t London. It isn?t even Liverpool, it?s Kirkby we?re talking about. How many have you seen riding to Goodison? Add 4 miles to that (EFC figures) on a wet Wednesday in January. Nice sentiments but ridiculous idea.

As for luddites, is it that wrong to have genuine concerns and therefore questions you would like answering? Especially in light of the misinformation coming from Bully?

Chris Roberts: The real point here is His Whyness’s use of vacuous marketing sound bites at every opportunity. I agree with what you say about cycling to games ... great in theory and I ’d do it myself ... if I could.
But would you cycle to Kirkby from Liverpool through match night traffic?

More to the point, I’d like to ask His Whyness, where are those 1000 cyclist coming from? Which cycle paths will they be using? Where are they gonna lock the bikes up?

And ... Is all this in the budget for the free stadium?

I think we know where the hot air is coming from.

The Stanley Park Stadium is a different kettle of fish, the area has already proved to be able to cope with a demand of 48,000.

Plus they are building a new train station and their park and ride scheme is to be a lot smaller than ours.

Kirkby has no track record and already it requires the the country’s largest park and ride scheme to be able to cope with demand due to a poor transport infrastucture.

Chris Roberts, you dont even appear to know the geography of the area, anyone getting lost would end up in nthe Industrial Estate and be there all night!

The only options would be family-size trikes for us families (I go the game with my wife and 3 kids), perhaps there is an option for Kirkby residents to set up some sort of Chinese style rickshaw services for out-of-towners, or someone could set up an electric rent-a-cart system - some good business options for you green London based entrepreneurs to make a few bob.

Could be linked into the Tesco healthy options meals, free with a season ticket - we will definitely have the fittest fans.

By the way, I didnt post the article on KEIOC website, fancy suggesting that. There are lots of Joneses around, after all my grandad did have a bike!

This utter nonsense says it al for me.

And before, I’m dismissed as some sort of un-green luddite by some befuddled, gullible Wyness Yes-man, I speak as a keen cyclist ( went on a training ride of 12 miles on Thursday ) and I wouldn’t fancy cycling anywhere near a football stadium with 50,000 in attendance wherever it was. I’d love to see Wyness get his ample frame on a bike and cycle through wind and rain in rush hour traffic. No chance.

Wyness is full of shit to put it bluntly. He’s either deluded, thinks we’re stupid or doesn’t care because he’ll be off anyway once we’re there. Or all 3, probably.

Chris Roberts - rather than spouting nonsense about that natural phenomenon called global warming, you may be well-advised to study the transport plan in full. Wynes claims that 1,000 will cycle to the match yet there will only be around 300 spaces to secure them! Therefore, 700 of these cyclists will need to join the hour plus queue for the train out of Kirkby!.

Wyness is a fraud and an incompetent of the very worst sort. It disturbs me that while the supporters of Aberdeen could see him for the bullshitter that he is, our so-called ’knowledgeable’ supporters are still making excuses for him.

My best day as an Evertonian will be when he leaves and can damage our club no further.

Oh That Mr Wyness should meet the same, if figurative, end as the Austrian cake purveyor, ie the Chop.

The Toffeeweb poll is running at 90% to redevelop Goodison on a like for like Pound basis.

NOW THATS A MANDATE!!

Keith let them eat pies Wyness, on yer bike sunshine.

Neville Southall used to bike all the time as he couldn?t drive and then play a game and probably cycled home afterwards.

If it wasn’t such an important issue.... it would be absolutely laughable!!!

The transport plan is a shambles so we’ll fill the gaping holes with something eco-friendly, what a joke..... This will be the most car dependent stadium in the country, and most can’t even get within walking distance of the place!!
