How much will we have to spend...

Comments (4)

... and what will we spend it on?

Now that the season is drawing to a close and the most likely outcome is a very respectable 5th place, it is time to start thinking about what we need for next season.

It's difficult to know how much we have to spend, however with our position from this season plus the Sky money I think we should be looking to spend around £30m.

Personally I would like us to sign David Bentley, Kevin Nolan and possibly Manny Fernandes. I think that would come to around £25m. The remaining £5m could be used for a decent right back and then bring a couple of free transfers in.

I think our current side with these additions could really push on and keep the pressure on that 4th place.

Now at the beginning of the season if we had been told we would be sitting on 60 points with 5 games to go we would have bitten off their hand. Right or wrong?

Since the beginning of the Premiership we have reached 61 points in a season. So we are well and truly on course to eclipse that. I know people are going to say we should have more than 60 points due to our recent dip in form but surely a dip was in the offing? Unbeaten in over 2 months until the Fulham game we were the form team in the League.

There are a lot of negative vibes on the site in recent weeks due to a few poor performances which I am very disappointed about as I really thought we had a great chance for the Champions League. But to be fair we have not got enough strength in depth. We play our strongest team every week so its going to take it's toll in the end. Examples.

Carsley - plays every minute of every game. Has done a great job but you can see he is out on his feet. Would keep him next season as back up. Think we missed out on a bargain in January

Diarra, has it all good defensively and got a great presence in midfield!! he would have enabled us to play 4 across the middle. 5m would have been a snip!!!

Cahill- Just have to look at our record this term with him in the team and not in the team!!!! only lost 2 with him in the team(united & arsenal) says it all. We had lost 5 games out of our first 10 games when he was missing!!! catch my drift?? I saw a lot of comments on here saying to sell him. What?????? 10million??? why? tell me who would you get instead of him if he was sold!! i know this is only a percentage of fans as anyone in there right mind knows a goalscoring midfielder is invaluable

Arteta- This groin injury has definitely hampered him. But again we have not got sufficient back-up to rest him to he gets it fully sort it. Here hoping we can add a winger of sufficient quality in the summer!! any ideas???

Fernandes - I really like this guy. Right first of all it is plain to be seen this man is not fit but he is getting there. He has that bit of class which i think if evertin are to progress we need. Good passer, great strike, as seen last yr strength to hold players off!! not shown that since return due to lack of match fitness!! not d greatest in d tackle and in the air but he is young this can be sorted on the training ground.

Defence- Right-Back - Problem position:-

Hibbert - just not a fan(all heart not much ability) Neville- passing is just terrible gives very little goin forward Need a more athletic player for this position with good touch Like baines from what i have seen gives us something different down the left when he plays.

Centre Back- Probably one of our main strengths. Distribution from Jags and Yobo can be wayward at times but happy with them.

Lescott- Class Probably could do with a young replacement for left back. Cheap championship player(Come on Moysie pluck us another) Valente's time is up as is AVDM and gravesen. (plus hibbert but think he will stay)

Up front of late has been a problem with our injuries but if everyone was fit i think we are okay!! Still think another very good striker would help. If anything happened to the Yak we would be in trouble. Praying Vaughany can get over his problems because the lad has talent no doubt. For some reason i just can't see Anichebe making it at Everton.

New right back, sub left back, Manny,Peanut, Carsley Replacement,Winger, Possibly a striker(depends on Vaughan & Anichebe). This would make us a lot stronger for next season so that this drop in form will not happen again and that we can rotate on occasions just to freshens things up. One thing we just can't do at the moment. Come on the Toffees

Don?t think your maths is adding up boys. I?m gonna hazard a guess and say that much of this Sky £30M was borrowed against last summer to fund the signing of Yakubu. Let?s face it, just because we got decent paper for McFadden, it doesn?t mean it?s going back into some imaginary transfer pot that Moyes has at his disposal. Pretty certain it doesn?t work like that.
