Player of the year

Whilst in my opinion the player of the year was always a forgone conclusion, with recognition to the runner up Tim Howard also. Joleon Lescott is by a country mile the winner.
My concern is the next category, Young player of the year. The candidates which by the list shows you the state of what we have coming through.
Anichebe — Useless
Fernandes — should not be on the list.
Vaughan — has hardly played and no doubt if not for injuries would be the winner.
Baines — Has hardly played.
Rodwell- one game.
The bigggest concern is due the bulk not playing due to injury and selection, we are forced to make Anichebe the young player of the year.
The problem: He thinks he is better than he is. He has done nothing to merit it.
His performances of late have just got worse. His ego and his attitude on the pitch is not what you would expect from a player developing and yet to achieve anything.
What will this do to his ego when he is awarded it (which he will)?
Platitudes and awards should be for something special and something well deserved, this year at Everton in this category it will not be the case, what does this say about the future players of the club .
Do us all a favour and don't vote as it is a pointless exercise and will achieve nothing other than maybe get Victor a few more admirers when out in town.

Mine are:
Player of the season:
1st- Joleon Lescott
2nd- Yakubu
3rd- Tim Howard
Young player of the season:
1st- Victor Anichebe
2nd- Leighton Baines
3rd- Jack Rodwell
It won't let me vote for the goal of the season yet, is anyone else having difficulty with this? However it will be as follows:
1st - Leon Osman vs Larissa
2nd - Tim Cahill vs Chelsea
3rd - Mikel Arteta vs Fiorentina

My favorite goal of the year has to be Leon's cracker against Larrisa. The build up was sublime, he finished it with a thunderbolt right foot, and Goodison went mental.

Coming on as a substitute against a League One class opposition, knackered already having to contain Yak and AJ, not having played any competitive footie during their off season, our young star ’casually’ brushes off their defenders and scores a ’screamer’.
And also having come on as a substitute, against Premiership class oppositions namely BIRMINGHAM CITY, knackered already having to contain Yak and AJ, having played 30 odd FULL games already, our young star gets knocked off by defenders half his size, sulking to the schoolmaster that the naughty boys in the other class pulled his skirt.
Course we have to give it to Anichebe, he’s a superstar and leading European goalscorer. We can’t give it to Vaughan, who’s broken every one including his tit bone for Everton, or Baines who had the nerve to shout at our 11million pound mega-striker for not chasing a hopeless loose ball. They’re never in the limelight cause no-one cares about them nursing injuries for the blue jersey. Any other young players in the pool? Anichebe wins by default in my book.
Actually, Paul, what would be nice is to rename the Young Player award to some special accolade, say the Alan Ball Rising Star, or Alan Ball Special Recognition award. These awards would be like those Eastern European Piano Contests where they ONLY give out the winning award if there was one worthy of it. If any of these young players were any good, they would go in for the proper Player of the Year awards FFS. Giving out a young player award is to encourage the lad to keep playing as we like what we’re seeing. Oh Fuck.
A useless piece of silverware to create exclusive interviews on the ETV, where ’winners’ read out scripted drivel. Give me some of Spurs and likely Pompey silverware any day. By the way, COYBs.

I have noticed Paul Niklas seems to have a personal vendetta against Victor. Why Paul? He’s done nothing wrong. His attitude us nothing to be worried about in my opinion. He gets frustrated with himself more than anything. I’ve never seen him slagging of one of his team mates for a bad pass or having a go at the manager for subbing him. He just gets on with it.
He’s a laid back personality. He’s the complete opposite of James Vaughan or Tim Cahill and similar to Yakubu and Fernandes. There not going to run around all day and be aggressive because thats not there game. If they did it then they wouldn’t perform to the standard they want to perform to. I think fans have go to accept that every player is different and they all have different styles and conduct themselves in different ways.
When has he ever stated he’s better than he thinks he is? He doesn’t think that in my opinion. If anyone’s got EvertonTV watch his interview a few months ago he even says he shouldn’t be starting, he needs time and he’s far far from the finished article. A really down to earth interview in my opinion and nice to see from a kid his age.
When has Victor ever had a run in the team? I’m struggling to remember. He had a little run earlier last season but that is it. People expect him to come in every few months when someone is injured and thats not easy. He hasn’t had much match practice and he’s not as fit as the athletes he is competing against. Plus the midfield he usually has behind him is second string due to injury problems.
For me Victor has the potential to be around Johnson’s level. Not a great player by any means but a capable premiership striker who can chip in with 10-12 goals a season. He needs time though like all young strikers do.
As I’ve said in the past its easy to pick on one of the young guns when he’s the least of our problems. He hardly ever plays and after a 15 minute cameo against Birmingham got a negative thread about him.
He deserves young player of the year.

Now, granted his form has dipped and he hasn't made the most of starting opportunities when they've come his way but to brand him as "useless" is at best a little uncharitable, at worst gratuitous. He may be more Cadamarteri than Rooney right now but I think his displays this year are not only worthy of the Young Player accolade but also a bit more patience from the fans.
