So it`s Neville in midfield and Lescott at left back. No doubt Moyes will say it`s our strongest team.To me the man is myopic and unimaginative when it comes to big games. Why not spring a shock and include Rodwell? Can`t see us getting didly-squat!

Well, what a scintillating first half, packed with neat passing interplay, clear and dominating front running and a plethera of chances that were missed by only the tiniest of margins.....NOT What a fucking joke Everton are! Call this premiership football - can’t watch this anymore - sick of the the same old arguments for the same old problems MOYES OUT KENWRIGHT OUT NOW!!

I had hoped that we would see a good game from Neville as the result means so much to Manchester United and, as we know only too well, their season is always his primary concern. But no, not even that can motivate him.

If Neville and Cars are first teamers next season then what is the point - reminds me of the glory days of Horne and Parkinson altho Parky was miles above Neville!!

A season that promised so much, and all I can see is 7th place in the league. Same old season after season, our small squad always runs out of gas towards the end of it. 2002-03 all over again. No quality to replace any major injuries. At the moment any team in the EPL would fancy taking 3 points off us. Apart from Derby. why dosen’t moyes not play Gravesen, he loked one of our better players last saturday, despite only being on for 6 minutes.
Mark Pendleton
10   Posted 17/04/2008 at 20:57:23

Have to admit, we’re so outnumbered in midfield maybe Baines on the left wing would help bolster it, either at the expense of AJ or take off Hibbo, move Nev to right back and play AJ from the right. Wish the season would end now in truth. Without Cahill, Arteta and Ossie the midfield is really struggling.
Scott Jenner
11   Posted 17/04/2008 at 20:55:46

Stephen Stuart, Im not being funny but Moyes has got us in the top six in 3 out of the last 4 seasons with limited money and a limited squad. We are missing 3 of our best midfield players and we are playing probably the 2nd best team in the premiership who have spent hundreds of millions on players, what exactly do you think any other manager at Everton would be able to acheive?? As Viv said lets start supporting the boys. Come on Everton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian Waring

Lets get behind the team...Yawn

I’m looking at Johnson, Carsley, Neville, HIbbert and wondering where the fuck an assist never mind a goal is going to come from. The original poster has it bang on, no innovative approach, route one, defend, gift away possession and LOSE. We have nobody in midfield who can get a grip of the game. Moyes has had six years now and the inevitability in which we will lose a game like this FUCKING STINKS
Mark Pendleton
14   Posted 17/04/2008 at 20:59:56

Gravesen has not got the legs, he probably can’t manage more than 6 minutes. If he had, he’d have been playing, i’m sure of that. As for Rodwell he’s a defender. If Moyes played him surely he’d be called too defensive!

Sorry to repeat this but we really need someone in central midfield, maybe Fernandes or Graveson and then switch the wings.
Drop Neville to right back if you must but FFS seperate Cars and Nev.
Johnson has lost pace, confidence, pretty much everything and Moyes knows it cos he bollocked him in the 1st half.
We need a striker signed in the summer...a major one along with the obvious midfielder and a right full back.

It?s not about being fickle, a comment which I take exception too, it?s about recognising that despite the hype, despite the pleas for time, despite the working 24/7, despite the manager, despite the injuries - many of which are probably self-inflicted, despite all the rationale - Everton are CRAP, crap ground, crap manager, crap board, crap future - or doesn?t that matter in your book??

Anthony Newell
19   Posted 17/04/2008 at 21:04:03

It is Moyes’ fault that Johnson has been turned from a potent striker into a headless chicken and watch Yakabu soon follow. The whole system and ethos stinks and we have reached the end of the road with a certain set of players and management style. All good things come to an end, time to move on. I agree with Stephen S, we need wholesale changes now

Lampard and Drogba missing for Chelsea; what an opportunity for Moyes! What do we get? A midfield of Carsley/Neville, and now Pienaar of all off! They look clueless, uninspired because of these "tactics". There are absolutely no width to Everton’s play, no balls in from wide positions.

Seriously, why does Moyes keep playing Neville there. He’s said in the past that Neville’s position is right back ... This is awful, a total waste, and it could’ve been much more tonight.

No excuses, it dosen?t matter whether it?s chelsea or Derby and Birmingham. We have been atrocious since the 2nd leg of the Fiorentina game. If we had have beaten Birmingham and Fulham, we would be home and dry for at least 5th spot. Hard to believe we had a chance of finishing 4th.

Brian Waring
43   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:02:36

It?s amusing how some people are so quick with the excuses. We have 5 pts from the last 18. Dropped points against those mighty sides of the prem, Fulham, West Ham, and Birmingham. Rolled over against the redshite; apart from the win, we were piss poor against an already relegated Derby. And as I said "it?s amusing" because after every one of those games, the same people were on here rolling out the same old exscuses.
Andy Cummins
44   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:07:04

Adam Bennett, totally agree - Moyes just cant play 4-4-2 ? it goes against his defensive nature. We are just forunate enough to have a midfielder that runs himself into the ground to ensure that he gets into box at every opportunity. And it's the reason we are shit without Cahill.
Gaz Daniels
45   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:06:56

It doesnt matter about formations it attacting intent that matters. We dont get forward in numbers, when the ball is lost the whole team runs to get behind the ball, it too negative.
I’ve watched carsley intensley for the last four games to see all the great work that he supposedly puts into the team, lets get a few things right no other team in the top half would half carsley anywhere near a starting eleven, and as for neville in midfield??? whats the point moyes cant see it even when in happening right infront of him :(
Kunal Desai
46   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:09:09

Gaz yes I watched all the game but my point is the 3 midfielders i mentioned, if fit would all have started today, there was nothing to show on the entire game because those players were’nt available. They create and the creativity wasn’t there. We are still a good side, you don’t win 19 games by fluke. This summer is going to be very a crucial one in Moyes tenure, we need midfielders atleast 2 other along with Pienaar and need to challenge 4th!
Andy Brittenden
47   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:12:12

Absolute shit tonight.

It would appear to the vast majority people I was with that if we had brought on Baines at left mid and moved Manny inside we might have passed the ball better and therefore opened them up a bit. But no .... lets bring on Grav and Vic and fuck up the balance completely!!!!

WHY DOES HE NOT SEE WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SEE’S????????
Raymond Choi
48   Posted 17/04/2008 at 21:56:51

What is the whole point of Gravesen for Pienaar? To make sure we lose possession? To slow the game down? What? At least Neville can defend (a bit).

Yes am frustrated at the lineup but can understand as Moyes was forced his hands due to the injuries. (Really don?t get it when people keep shouting for Rodwell as it?s midfield we are lacking in not defending; and Gravesen as well !). But if your defenders (Jag in particular) keep hoofing aimless balls forward which not one of your strikers can possibly get to, then it probably doesn?t matter who you play in midfield. Pathetic.

At least Fernandes showed what he is capable of. I just feel sorry for him that every time he gets the ball he has virtually no options but to run with it (and lost it when crowded out) because all his team mates around him are static. Having Cahill and Arteta alongside him would at least make a wee bit difference.

It would be a great season if we could cling on to 5th now - which looks increasingly unlikely by the week.
Adam Bennett

Or maybe it is hard to say as maybe Moyes has come to his tactical end at Everton and it is time for a change.

50   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:13:56

We were shite tonight. No two ways about it. Neville is a joke in midfield. Chelsea could have stuck 5 past us if they tried. I hope we can hang onto 5th. It would be a just reward for some of the great football we played earlier in the year. We really need Osman, Arteta etc back.
Joe McMahon
51   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:09:05

Are we going to win another game this season guys?

I don’t know what the answer is, to say we need a squad Cull is an understatement, but that means we will then have to sign about 10 players- yeah right.

Apart from the obvious weak links/players...I’m sick to death of the pathetic Andrew Johnson, yeah he scored against Liverpool..........errr over 18 months ago. 8.5 million fucking pounds!!!!!
Neil Milne
52   Posted 17/04/2008 at 21:54:02

How bad were we tonight? Tactically Moyes has not got what it takes to win a big game. There were players out there tonight that are simply not good enough to take us forward. We lacked pace & quality. Without Arteta we are very ordinary.

I hope Moyes gets in a decent assistant who can assist him tactically and rumours of Reid, Carr and Scharner are wide of the mark because they are not going to improve that team one bit. A bigger sqaud and better quality is needed.

The Arsenal and Villa games will go the same as this, irrespective of what side is put out. We can’t fucking pass, have no composure on the ball and are clean out of ideas. Our forwards look a shadow of themselves and thats due to the game we play. Your absolutely right Gaz, we thought we had a good team but our lofty position has clouded all the glaring shortcomings, namely we are too negative, can’t play 4-4-2, can’t fucking pass and place defending at all costs as our number one priority, Everton FC...The Emperors New Clothes

Moyes has had terrible luck with injuries, particularly in midfield and all our strikers have gone off at the same time. Our defence will get us another three points and that will be enough to claim 5th place and a club points record. All in all, an excellent season.
Gaz Daniels
58   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:29:45

Sorry dave but luck doesnt come into it your either good enough or your not. We will struggle to win another game this season. Even if we beat Villa and Newcastle, we won't get anything from Arsenal (because against a top-four team Moyes cant do it).

If we don't finish 5th, this season will be a failure.

Chris Davies
59   Posted 17/04/2008 at 22:32:49

We’ve got 61 points so far this season, which equals our best ever points tally in the Prem (we had the same when finishing 4th and 6th). For me, that ain’t a bad season.

I think the reason we have faltered so badly since Fiorentina is due to the lack of strength in depth - we need a bigger squad, the players at the moment are looking jaded and injuries have made a bad situation worse. Let’s hope we can spend over the summer and look to push on to 4th place next year.

I am starting to get bored of Everton. Its becoming predictable that we will get the same lifeless performance that we had the last game and the game before.
Major surgery is needed on this Everton squad this summer. Moyes has made good signings, but they are mostly work horses with little skill. I wish we could sign someone that is dangerous in attack. We have average players and are an average team. You only have to look at other squads attacking options to see what the missing ingidents is -

Chelsea - Ballack, SWP, Joe Cole, Drogba, Essien..the list goes on

Man U - Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Giggs

Arsenal - Fabregas, RVP, Walcott, Adebayor, Flamini

Liverpool - Torres, Gerrard

Our Key attacking players are Arteta, Pienarr, Cahill and Yak

I would swap any of ours for any of the above without even having to think one second about it.

We are light years away, Billy boy has to sell or we are f**ked!!!!!

When I saw our lineup it was clear it would be hard. Chelski started better, but I thought we got into the game, and for the first time this time round I thought manny looked good.

Didn’t agree with the changes, and we didn’t create much, but still. A team with the players chelski has getting a flukey goal and then started wasting time after fifty freaking minutes is very difficult. Grav was shite, and we could have used baines to good effect, didn’t think Ferreira looked too good.

Granted, we are off form, but after all we played some decent football (albeit only in short breaks, and I think we’ll be out of our slump before long. The Arse has nothing to play for, and their good players are probably even more knackered than ours. Villa has a small squad, and against the barcodes anything can happen.

COYB and stop the bloody moaning!

It was a fucking kick-in for Chelsea tonight - if they had any confidence, they could have put 5 past us tonight.

I can't believe Moyes tries the same tactics every single time we play a better team. It doesn't work Davey!! Not only that we can't even create a single chance. We are playing at home and their goalie has to make one comfortable save in the whole game. That is a disgrace and as it happens time after time is the reason why David Moyes has reached the end of the road for Everton.

Michael, you want to single out Hibbert, please explain what he did that was so bad today that the rest of the team didn?t do?

Everyone lost posession... frequesntly, Jags could pass wind tonight, Pip at the end decided he was Roberto Carlos with his left foot, the reality was that his left foot is for balance only.

Yobo had his shaky moments as did Lescott.

The midfield seemed none existent aprt from Fernandes who most of us agreed was the man most likely to score.

Yak and Johnson were starved of any kind of meaningful balls and Anchovy did his 3 runs then it was hands on hips time for the cameras.

Whereas you feel the need to blame Hibbert when the goal was conceeded through the centre of defence, I can?t remember many crosses coming from Hibbert?s wing though.
Callum Wilson
71   Posted 17/04/2008 at 23:19:07

I think tonight was an absolute disaster. The team was wrong i am sick of seeing Lescott at left back to accomidate Yobo; Yobo is a liability for me ? did you see where he was for the Essien goal? In no man's land ? day dreaming. We know Jags and Lescott play well together and don't try to both head the same ball as they know what the other is doing. We have alot of quality at left back -use it Moyesey please. Baines is class and Valente is terribly underated. Lescott is good at left back but great at the heart of the defence.

As for right back well we know it's a nightmare. Neville isn't great and I don't rate Hibbert, Nev gets booked too often and is ineffective then for the rest of the game. Hibbert like Neville can't pass and god forbid you ask them to cross. In saying that it was one of Nev?s better games but he is not a mid.

Piennar and Fernandes were the best players on the pitch by a country mile. Arteta?s set pieces have been poor this season not clearing the first man and generally poor. Manny i think did the role much better with dangerous free kicks and threatening corners.
Colin O'Keeffe
72   Posted 17/04/2008 at 23:44:12

What the last few weeks have demonstrated is the squad is totally lacking of any depth in midfield. We miss a fit Arteta and Cahill terribly. Osman?s energy is missed even if he?s a limited player in a lot of other ways. Moyes decision to bring in Gravesen as as stop-gap has not worked. while the failure to offload Van der Meyde and bring in a wide midfield replacement is proving costly, as there is no option to alllow Fernandes to play in his natural central position and spare us the disaster that is the Neville-Carsley axis. We can only hope that Arteta and Osman are fit to play versus Villa and we can revert to a 4-5-1 for the rest of the season. Otherwise it looks likely that we could end up dropping out of the European places.

At least Moyes will realise what we have to do next season in order to progress. Whether he can bring in the 3-4 top quality players we need is another matter.
