Get off Neville's back, you should be ashamed!

How can people seriously keep scapegoating Phil Neville for these Everton performances? Having just read the match report on Chelsea, it is so blindly obvious you have chosen Neville as your boo boy and can clearly not look objectively at an Everton performance.

Phil Neville is a right back, and a damn good one at that. He has been an exceptional part of our progression. In terms of Neville this season, he has been moved to right wing, centre mid, left back, and tonight left wing and you tell me whether it is fair to judge how good Phil Neville is in these positions?

How good was Phil Jagielka in centre midfield? How good was Joleon Lescott at Centre Forward against Fulham? Not good, and the reason is because they were way out of position and you can't expect them to play there. Phil Neville is thrown around this side like a rag doll and has become such an easy target because of it, and the fact that people can't come to accept the fact he played as a bit part player for Man United and is now our captain, stubborn idiots.

Neville has done a great job for Everton and our club is better for having him. In relation to tonight against Chelsea, Neville was doing work for two players in there as Carsley did absolutely nothing. He was winning the ball closing down and forcing errors and passing to Everton shirts and if you can't see that then it is clear you have tunnel vision where Neville is concerned and there is no point you making comment.

I have travelled to every game bar 2 all season and seen a player give his all for our club and also perform to a high standard constantly at right back and more often than not in his unfavoured positions, without a single complaint along the way. Get off your high horse with Neville, there are players out there who don't deserve anywhere near the credit and respect that he does and we should be grateful to have him.

Hahaha... sorry, fella, but that is simply laughable. I just watch him play, it's Neville who continually losses the ball, it's Neville who tottally shanked that cross near the end. If you like to watch him play like that for us, as our captain, good for you. I don't.

I thought he was possibly our best player tonight. But that doesnt change the fact thats hes a poor CM 4 times out of 5. A decent enough right back fair enough and thats where he should stay. Although granted you could say Moyes is responsible playing him there when you could play others.

Btw wtf is Moyes doing putting Neville out on the wing a bit lately in second halves? Bring Baines on if you want a defensive right or left wing ffs.

As a season ticket holder in the Street End I was absolutely disgusted at a minority of fans reaction towards Phil Neville both before the game when his name was mentioned and after when he and he alone came towards the fans to applaud our support.

He was one of our better players on the night and did not deserve the reception he received. The fans concerned should be ashamed of themselves.

Regardless of what position he has played in every time I’ve seen him play (one game live at the Villa, the rest on the tele over here) his passing is absolutely god awful. He may be a good captain, he may be able to motivate on the pitch (dubious!), he may have plenty of experience but if he keeps giving the ball away - what is the point????

Now I didn’t see tonights so I can’t comment on that and, yes, the constant switching of position wouldn’t help.....although that in no way whatsoever explains his passing.

Based on the general match reports and comments on here one would assume if he stayed put as a right back he wouldn’t be too bad but then his ability to be the attacking defender we need is limited!

In his head he’s still playing for Manchester United. I have never seen a good performance from him.

Putting a right back into left midfield befuddled me (if that’s the right word..) last night..

I think next season its time for the leadership to change. Neville has done his time, he’s contributed enough but its time to move on and pass the Captaincy to either :

Lescott (Stoic defence, like Terry)

Yobo (has had a little experience already)

Cahill (alot of people’s choice, but injuries don’t help Captaincy.. although many Captains in other teams are generally injured)

Arteta (perhaps being Captain can bring the best out in him once again?)

They’re my options for Captain. I think once Neville is relegated to just normal team duty, Moyes can then feel free to use him when he wants, and put on others that really deserve the spot on the team than he does on occassions.

If we had had Baines running left midfield last night instead of Neville, we would have had great crosses into the box instead of stray balls flying over into the crowd.

He’s shite but Moyes should take some ov the blame as well for pickin him. Why the fuck iz he so loyal to Johnson,Carsley, Hibbert, Neville?? They are all utter shite!! Open your eyes Moyes and have some arse about ya and give some ov the kids a go because watchin these pudding get a start ahead must be disheartning to them.

Yakubu’s a lazy twat as well. 11 million for a player who can’t even trap the ball. Terrible.

I think Carsley is the worse passer of the ball in our Team ...Period....

And Last night Phil was the best player on our team, aside from Fernandes.

Well... that?s my opinion.

Two statements -

HOOF, even his chance at a cross unmarked at the end of last nights game was a stereotypical hoof

and

Hey Chuckle Brother we play in blue, why do you pass the ball to anyone other than players in that colour shirt?

He’s shite, if anything last night proved it was that the players Everton have are nothing but hard workers, that will never win you a thing. Moyes needs to fuck this English players shite off and take a trip to get himself some of those African or European chappies everyone watched last night rip the piss out of the Everton players with something called footballing technical ability, huff and puff is bollocks when faced with players who can just waltz past you. Until and unless Moyes pulls his finger out his arse and gets footballers into the squad we won’t go any further.

I agree that Neville does not deserve to be singled out for criticism. It is also true that he is a more than capable full back.

I would however like to see him moved on as he is not getting any younger and would still command a reasonable fee. Also more importantly it would free up the captaincy which should be given to our one true inspirational player Tim Cahill.

Phillip Neville is a fantastic professional. His work ethic, commitment, determination are second to none and cannot be faulted.

But Phillip Neville is a shite footballer. Panics under pressure, poor passer of the ball and always seems to make the wrong decision. He’ll make a great coach once he hangs up his boots - and he’s probably a great influence on the training field and thus a good captain. But he’s fucking awful at football.

Where do people get this ?can?t pass? from? I remember 2 occasions last night where he didn?t find his target - albeit one was the horrendous slice at the end. Fernandes can get caught in possession 6/7 times in our own half, but be talked about as a cornerstone of the team, but the man who was probably our best player last night gets pilloried.
Yes, he is from Manchester and if that is a reason to hate someone, so be it, but don?t use his football as an excuse. He does what it says on the tin, and consistently well. It is the so-called ?better? players who have let us down since January, for a variety of reasons: injury, fatigue, contracts - but for the last 3 games, can we not just support the team, the squad and the manager!

Michael, not for the first time you are talking absolute rubbish with regard to Neville. Since the unnecessary over-the-top criticism I?ve watched his performances very closely. His use of the ball last night - in terms of finding another player in blue - was significantly more successful than any other Everton player. He won every tackle.

His cross towards the end was very poor, just like the long passes Jagielka and Lescott drove down the pitch and out of play in injury time when we could have been building attacks. No mention of those poor passes though as we must blame Neville for every problem we have.

watched the game in a bar in Norway, and as our phil shanked that final cross a single cry went up from some local lads over to my left. I asked what they said and was given a translation of ’who else?!’

He’s rubbish in that position and the whole world knows it, including moyes now, but there have been no credible options of late. Hurry back osman and arteta, at all costs!!

I thought NEville was one of our better players last night - unitl he ended up on the left wing for the latter part of the 2nd half.

If you look at things lile OPTA stats, Phil Neville has the highest passing accuracy of any Everton player - all that happends is people remember one bad pass and don’t notice all the good ones he’s played earlier in the game.

Like last night - everyone will mention the cross (with his left foot) that went into the stand at the end but ignore most of the previous 89 minutes where he played well.
Supporters like to have scapegoat and blame them all the time at present its Neville. If he goes they will just find someone else

I wonder if we all watched the same match. Neville’s use of the ball (to move forward, not pass sideway or back to keeper) was laughable at best, and atrocious at worst. Finding a player in blue with a knee high ball which is impossible to control imho is the same as a misplaced pass

But of course to single him out for criticism is wrong - Gravesen (god-awful) and Jag are just as guilty in losing possession. But Phil Neville one of our better players last night ? You’re having a laugh....

Blame Moyes for playing Neville in midfield - not the player for not being the standard we all want in centre mid.Making him a boo boy just shows the stupidity of some so called fans. If he is not trying/hiding/slagging the club etc then fair enough. To slate a a guy who gives his all evry time and is playing out of position is pretty poor.

Neville is one of our worst players but he wasn’t as bad as people are making out yesterday. I think everyone’s frustration is down to Moyes. The fact that he won’t drop him or sub him when over the course of the season he has been below standards. That frustrates people and it certainly frustrates me.

Last night we had a chance to be positive and take the game to Chelsea and in my opinion Neville or Carsley should have been the first players subbed. Any one of them it didn’t really matter. But to take Pienaar off one our more bright and inventive players is ridiculous and then to move Neville to the left wing just to accommodate him is even worse.

Its a joke and if Moyes doesn’t get over Phil Neville we aren’t going to move on to the next level. People need to understand this. There hasn’t been one game this season where he’s actually stood out and out of the current starting eleven he’s the most inconsistent, he’s the first to hit it long and he’s the first to put in a rash challenge.

The reason he completed alot of passes today was because he was keeping it simple something he rarely does. But the problem is if your playing to holding midfield one of them has to take the game by the scruff of the neck and get on the ball. All Neville and Carsley did was pass sideways and backwards. Yes they kept the ball but they weren’t showing for it and they actually weren’t doing anything useful with it.

The likes of Pienaar and Fernandes where giving it away but they where trying to force the game and make passes that actually effect the game. I’d rather have that than two players who think there doing there job if there passing sideways and backwards all game. There’s a major difference between the likes of Carlsey and Neville passing to Fernandes and Pienaar.

My opinion on Neville has got nothing to do with him being a Manc. Not at all. If people base there opinions on that then there completely unfair. I base it on having watched him all season and realising he is very very average.

I actually thought Neville did okay last night although why the fuck he didn’t take more time with that last cross is beyond me.

Phil Neville is a decent right back but not good enough to play in the middle of the park, especially with Carsley who gets worse every game. Someone said we should give him another contract !! No thanks he’s shite !

Re Jay : Yakubu isn’t playing great but I thought he worked hard last night. The lad has scored 19 GOALS this season and without him we wouldn’t be anywhere near the top 5.

We should be creating more chances for him instead of expecting him to run around like Johnson and not even look like scoring. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d rather see the best natural finisher we’ve had since Lineker doing his work in the box and not charging around like that Everton legend Marcus ’5 goals’ Bent !!!

Its very easy to pick on a scapegoat sometimes especially when you wont have a word said against the tactically inept manager who took Pienaar off the left side and put Neville there instead... Neville is a right full back Moyes.. A FULL BACK!! Not a marauding left winger.. You clown...

Even those of you - Michael included - who see Neville as the anti-christ, must agree that he is the best right back at the club. This is where the man gets stick for allowing himself (for the good of the team, and at the behest of the manager I might add) to be played out of position for seventy per cent of the season - and, crucially, in every game against top four opposition. Surely if he is fit he should play at right back, just as Jagielka should only play at centre back. Remember when Yobo played at right back?

Whatever any of you say, our best football this season has been played while Neville was at right back and Carsley was in a holding role within a five man midfield. That is how we play best, and we should be addressing our lack of midfielders as soon as the season ends.

There are four strikers in the squad challenging for one position in the team. Ther should be at least ten midfielders challenging for five places if we wish to progress,

Neville is one of the worst players I have ever seen wear the shirt, and we have had some shite!!!

Butya know what, you cant really blame him for being shite, he?s honest and never hide, but he?s jut not good enough. Thats is, it aint his fault.

Its the fucking manager who picks the team and its the fucking manager that started Neville centre mid!!! He is fucking woeful in CM because he cannot pass a ball or beat a man.

As soon as I seen that Team sheet, i knew we?d get twatted! Neville and Cars centre mid screams I WANT A DRAW!

Fair do?, Arteta cahill and Ozzie are out, but that does not excuse Moyes putting Neville in the middle WHO CANT PLAY THERE !

We had the bear bone bones but Jags could have gone right back for this game and baines left back with Yobo and lescott centre back.

and he could have played used johnson as a winger coz he practically is anyway when he is with Yak.

As for Yak, yes he is lazy at times but he always has been and he has ALWAY SCORED GOALS. 19 fucking goals aint to be sniffed and we never see that from an everton striker, well I havent.

He needs Cahill who sticks next to him and feeds of him, not a munchkin for a partner who drifts out wide.

Moyes was inept last nite, I cringed when he took Pienaar off and put Neville left wing HAHAHAHAHA! he fucking deserved to get boo?d for that!

He is so loyal to that bag of shite Neville is makes me mad and at least 35,000 evertonians every week think the same.

Take the fucking hint Moyes, DROP HIM!!!!! He?s just not good enough and honesty doe not beat the top teams!

Phil Neville is a shite footballer, end of story. All this talk of he?s a good right back is absolute bollocks. HE?S AN AVERAGE RIGHT BACK!

But, I cannot blame Nev for last night, the only person to blame is Moyes.... he picked him... he also put three centre halves on the pitch ( one of which is responsible for our long ball style - Jags - bench player)...and left Baines, an influential wing back with pace and skill on the bench.

He also brought Gravesen on whose played decent football for 6 months in the last 7 years...

You cannot blame the players for their own limitations....that accolade goes to the manager for playing them.... repeatedly... and not learning or even seeing what the rest of us are screaming out!

Ciarán McGlone, disagree with your opinion on Jags and the long ball. The reason we hit the long ball is because of the midfield and not the defense. Yesterday neither Carsley or Neville where showing for the ball or making any movement whatsoever to get the ball. The only option Jagielka and Yobo have in the long punt upfield or the sideways pass that eventually gets given right back to them.

If the defenders had more options I?m sure they?d use them. When Fernandes moved centrally and started coming deep for the ball Jagielka and Yobo kept it simple and we actually got somewhere and had a go at Chelsea. That is the reason the long ball is frequent in our play.

If we get two centre midfielders comfortable on the ball in the summer the back four?s distribution would be better.

Lescott, Yobo and even Hibbert didn?t play the long ball everytime... Jags did...and it?s obviously a feature of his game.. To suggest he didn?t is to deny fact.

Does Phil Neville pick the team ?

Does Phil Neville choose himself to play alongside his donkey friend Carsley ?

Is Phil Neville responsible for the tactics & pattern (or lack of it) of play on the field ?

Did Phil Neville take off Pienaar and bring on Gravesen ?

Did/Does he fuck !!

David Moyes does all of these things and gets away with them !! Moyes is shit scared when it comes to playing the Sky 4 and his results (over the 6 yrs) prove so. He played the same way in the semi-final. and at Analfield..shit scared to attack, it’s as if he is frightened to upset them. We will never challenge the top 4 until the manager stops being scared of them. Dont give me crap about missing players, injuries etc they are just excuses, excuses , excuses. Lack of ability should not and MUST NOT be accepted as an excuse for LACK OF DESIRE/HEART/ENTHUSIASM whoever your playing against !!
Since the Fiorentina game all he’s gone on about is lack of quality, every post match interview LACK OF QUALITY...well do something about it and stop fuckin moaning.... Bemoaning lack of quality yet every week persists with Carsley & Neville in the centre of midfield. 38,000 people can see that the ONLY position Neville should play is right back, yet he picks a central mfield player i.e. Fernandez to play out wide and when that’s not working he puts him on the left...fucking joke. !!
Lack of quality but gives Hibbert a new FOUR year deal...need I say more !!

Lack of Quality but continually instructs his players (including the goalkeeper) to hoof the ball aimlessly up/down field against central defenders whom the forwards have no chance of beating in the air. I felt really sorry for Johnson last night, John Terry must have been laughing his head off as he put on his smoking jacket and lit up a big cigar .

David Moyes picks the team and tactics NOT Phil Neville and if Moyes doesn’t advocate these tactics WHY doesnt he stop them ???

And by the way.....Sylvan Eubanks-Blake, Sean Davies, Stephen Carr and some American ’never heard of’ from Holland are not my idea of quailty !!!

just a foot note...I coach a kids team. Our tactics are based on playing to feet, passing & keeping the ball , movement and getting behind defences at every opportunity..Guess what ??...we win most games and the team has a built a reputation of being one of the best around!!..funny that inst it....play to feet, keep the ball, get behind defences...WIN GAMES !!

I’m sorry but Phil Neville is not good enough for Everton Football Club and he never will be. I fail to see any qualities in the guy. He runs around a lot but that’s about it. I don’t buy this commitment argument either. My mum would be commited if she was paid 10s of thousands a week. She’d probably be able to find a blue shirt more often than him. He continually gives free kicks away and the ball. We need to get shut and stop this eulogising of such a mediocre footballer. Not good enough. The same goes for Hiibbert too.
Connor Rohrer
32   Posted 18/04/2008 at 11:57:16

No fact in it whatsoever. Lescott, Yobo and Jagielka all hoof the ball. We don’t particularly have a ball playing centre half. Jagielka for me is no worse than Yobo in terms of distribution.

Yesterday his pass completion was better than both Hibbert and Lescott’s and slightly worse than Yobo. He made 45 passes completing 71%. As I’ve said if we get two midfielders who are comfortable on the ball in front of them then there distribution would be better as they’d have more options to pass to. It would be unfair to single out Jagielka when its not just him who does it.

You must be havin a laugh mate! Our club is better for having Phil Neville! When everyone is fit he?s the weak link in the team and Moyes just won?t drop him because he?s been stupid enough to make him captain. He?s absolutely atrocious, I?ve said it for years but some people are only starting to realise his lack of ablility.

Ok he had one of his better games last night, but Moyes has got to take the bulk of the blame. Did he honesstly think we would create chances with Neville and Cars centre mid in a 442 formation? And then he moves Phil Neville left mid? Who does he think he is Steven Gerrard? Why Moyes didn?t bring on Leighton Baines at that point is beyond me, a fresh pair of legs and a left footer who can get down the line and put some crosses in.

All Neville and Carsley do is turn back and give the ball to the defence to hoof it forward to Yak (who?s on 60 grand a week but can?t jump and little AJ or give it to Fernandes who I felt sorry for because he tried his best to make things happen and just got slated by the fans for it. I?m sorry but there is absolutely no way that Phil Neville is the man to take Everton forward as captain, he?s just not good enough!

He?s a laughing stock and Liverpool are loving it across the park, he?s been sent off twice against them (once for an unprofessional, pathetic handball) and he scored and own goal the other season. Maybe that sounds a bit harsh, but I?m trying to get the message across that lf we are to improve and win trophies we need someone with more quality and energy, someone who can inspire the team and maybe someone younger who is going to be around for the future years to come and has the ability to stay in the first 11. Moyes should think about looking for the ideal candidate as soon over the summer, maybe even Cahill or Jagielka should be given a chance. By giving someone else the chance it would mean Neville would have no role left to play at Everton and we could all go home happy blues ? result!
Ant Mill
37   Posted 18/04/2008 at 12:48:40

And by the way Stu Foster, Fernandes may have got caught on the ball more than Neville, because all Neville did was turn back and played the simple ball back to the defence so they could hoof it forward, whereas Fernandes was the only one who looked forward and tried to play football and make things happen and it was hard for him because he got closed down by about three men everytime and I didn’t see your classy Phil Neville’s helping him out by moving into space and giving him an option for a pass.

RE: Ant Mill

"he?s been sent off twice against them (once for an unprofessional, pathetic handball)"

Would you have rather he let that go in and them score. At least he did the team thing and gave howard the opportunity to save it, which he nearly did.

So FFS get off his back. I admit I don?t think he should be in the midfield but we are so bare on depth that he is needed to play there.

On a different topic. Everyone is moaning about using Tommy Gravesen. For the last umpteen matches when we haven't used him as a sub we have been slagging Moyes off. Now that he makes the sun and Mad Dog couldn?t pass for shite, we still have a go at Moyes.
Ant Mill
39   Posted 18/04/2008 at 12:58:51

Yeh i would rather he had let it in, because stopping the ball going in with your hand is called cheating and that’s something least of all captains should be doing, its hardly setting and example to the rest of the team. And he is needed to play in midfield? What about Leighton Baines? He should be given a chance to play down the left, Pienaar could have played down the right and then we could have Fernandes in the middle and we might have been able to create something, rather than negative Moyes playing Carsley and Neville together with neither of them capable of changing the game and from where I was sitting once we went 1-0 down the result was never in doubt and Moyes wouldn’t even bring Baines on even when Neville was moved over to the left. Nevermind Moyes obviously thought Neville would cause more of a threat playing left mid.
Colin Wordsworth
40   Posted 18/04/2008 at 13:16:06

I agree either Rodwell or Baines should have come on with fresh legs, but why have a pop at Neville, he had a good game and put the best pass through to Johnson on the night!. He is not a playmaker, Fernandes was supposed to be doing that role.....badly! HE IS A BETTER DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER THAN CARSLEY AND THE BEST RIGHT FULLBACK AT THE CLUB FULLSTOP. In fact he is one of the best right fullbacks in the country!

How much will it cost to improve the squad because by all accounts most of these idiotic rantings above would only leave us with about 12 first team players on the staff!...A good team is about blend, we are fifth in the league on a limited budget, we are not that far off the top three. We have an injury crisis in midfield. Some fans as I said need to smell the coffee!

This is seriously unbelievable and seems as though we all saw different games. I am on the side of ?Neville was absolutely diabolical last night?. I though just maybe he was going to make up for it with a decent cross when he was clear in the left in injury time with 2 strikers waiting in the box and he sends it almost out of Goodison. Great professional maybe but Sunday league quality at best!

Hold up a minute. So because Neville’s not a gifted footballer he shouldn’t look for the ball and try and create? Why not? Whether there defensive or not they should show some balls and atleast try and help and there back four and get on the ball. That isn’t just a rant at Neville its aimed at Carsley aswell. Neither supported there back four or made any movement whatsoever to make space. Thats part of being a central midfielder and neither do it. There like crabs who move from side to side. They don’t actually offer anything bar a few decent tackles and a few sideways passes.

How’s Fernandes supposed to be the play maker when he’s played out wide for the majority of the game. Play him in his natural position and he’ll be the play maker. Move Pienaar inside and he’ll try and be creative but Carsley and Neville don’t have to do that because there not play makers. If your playing two defensive midfielders together then one needs to take the ball and neither did that.

Neville isn’t one of the best fullbacks in the league. Thats just bollocks. He’s actually one of the worst. Anyone who watches him regularly can see him limitations and realizes why he shouldn’t be in the team. He’s crap. He the first to hit long, he’s the first to loose all composure and he gives dangerous free kicks away.

He had a decent game yesterday YES but he wasn’t our best player. Jagielka and Fernandes where.

I’m not sayin its Neville’s fault, he does his best, its Moyes who needs his head testing. Its unbelieveable that Neville got moved to play as a left winger when your trying to get back in the game. It must be hard to take for people like Leighton Baines and even Andy Van der Meyde who would do a far better job out wide and neither of them got on for a single minute last night, its an absolute joke it was like Moyes was happy with a 1-0 defeat. And please Neville, one of the best full backs in the country, when he goes forward it takes him an eternity to get back and he continually kicks it out for a throw when under no pressure- whats that all about? Every Evertonian I speak to all the say the same thing about Neville, I can’t believe there are still fans who think he’s quality and hand on heart believe he’s the man to take Everton forward and win trophies. And also admittedly Hibbert has poor distribution, but in terms of defensive qualities he’s streets ahead of Neville and rarely gets skinned.

For all those that were at the match last night and got the programme, you will know that Phil Neville started being crap in 1995, and then every year after, with the exception of ?98 & 2002. At the same time, he also managed to be crap 59 times for England.

Now he may not have been a regular for Utd, but he was trusted by the best manager in the modern era - not bad for someone who can only pass backwards!

He is not the best player in the team, but captains very rarely are. They are usually solid, dependable and vocal. I don?t know what his stats are, but i bet he is high up there for touches on the ball, passes, yards covered, the lot.

The point i was making earlier was it is up to the better players to then make the difference and, since the turn of the year, this has been our problem. I would love to see someone like Fernandes be a success at Everton, but you can?t keep giving the ball away in your own half (I also saw him do this at Valencia, so they must have their own versions of Neville and Carsley to cause him to do this)

We do not have the money to replace all the players some supporters want out of the club, in addition to the squad strengthening we so obviously need. But the way we are going, we are are going to start driving players away and others will be reluctant to fill their boots.

Again, we have 3 games left, support the team and then have your say at the end of the season, but let?s keep it rational - OK, I know the last bit?s impossible

Connor, I have watched Phil Neville all season, but, sadly, most of the time it has been in midfield, ie OUT OF POSITION. If he is one of the worst full backs in the league, it doesn’t say much for Hibbert, who has been cruelly exposed by any decent side we have played. I don’t know where you sit at the match, but from my seat I haven’t seen Hibbert have a good game since his illness, and Neville has been good - sometimes excellent - at right back.

Ther is always a boo boy at Everton, at the moment its Neville- and in my opinion that is unjustified, due to the manager using him as a utility player rather than the good right back he is.

Even in 84/85 Alan Harper was the boo boy, and we were the best team in Europe then- so it just goes to show that we are never happy.

No wonder our Phil can’t run, tackle and pass properly with all that weight on his back :0)

Adam Baig, Neville has played the majority of the season at right back. He’s only ever filled in midfield when we’ve had injuries.

Is sit in the Street end and in my opinion Neville and Hibbert are as bad as each other. Hibbert alot better defensively and Nev is slightly better going forward. Neither are good enough and next season I would like to see a new right back at the club.

Hibbert deserves to be in because Neville has stunk the place out. Surely you should be in the team on form and Neville hasn’t shown any consistency whatsoever. He should step aside and let Hibbert atleast have a chance to get a run in the team. Its only fair in my opinion.

Hibbert’s problem is Neville. Whenever Hibbert starts Neville is in midfield which weakens us. When Neville is at right back he has the luxury of having the likes of Osman, Pienaar, Fernandes and Arteta in front of him. Players who are comfortable on the ball. Give Hibbert that luxury and I think he’d put in some good performances.

What excellent games has Neville had at right back? I can name three where he’s been decent. Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Birmingham are the only games I’ve been impressed with Neville at right back. Hibbert defensively has had some very good games. Man city twice, Arsenal at home, Chelsea in the 1-1 draw at Stamford bridge, Aston Villa away etc. I’m not saying he’s the answer because he’s not but he deserves a run with Neville out the team.

Neville is the boo boy because of the way he plays. If you watch us he is the first to hoof in the team. That gives the the ball to the opposition and puts us under pressure. I’d expect a bit more composure from a player of his experience.

There are many better right fullbacks in the Premiership than Neville. Sagna, G. Neville, Finnan, Glen Johnson, Beletti, Corluka, Lucas Neil, Wes Brown, Young to name a few. There are more I haven’t mentioned aswell.

I thought he was decent last season but this season he’s been dire and doesn’t deserve to be captain or be in the team. I seriously don’t see what he brings to the plate in terms of footballing ability. What is he good at?

Jay Campbell = Tony Marsh wannabee.

I’ve gotta stick up for Ol’ Tony here, Jay’s said all the same negative BS as TM but he gets 4-5 comments against him, god you lot are picky.

Anyway yeah I’d trust moyes with £30m, hell I’d trust him if it was my £30m!

But I forgot we won our last league title 21 years ago so we have a god given right to 1st place every season, so Moyesy must be doin shite by taking us from 17th to just 5th! God I hate how he’s only improved us by 12 places, I demand 17!

Michael, and all those completely slating Neville have a think about it. The lad is being played out of position constantly, and doing a decent job in those positions. I know for a fact that there are better right backs in the league but thats probably because they are playing there week in, week out. Up until the Sheffield Wednesday game where he came on and changed the game despite most people, myself included, thinking it was an awful sub to change a game, he had barely played a game at right back. Hibbert has done exceptionally well against Petrov twice, and if you give him a one on one he rarely loses out, but he is not as good as Neville all round. But Neville needs a full season at right back where we can see exactly how good he is. If it wasn’t for Neville, can you imagine how knackered we’d have been in so many games where our numbers have been so short it’s stupid. He’s not our most talented footballer by a long way, but without him we wouldn’t be where we are. Some people just seem to be taklng such an easy option and slating him, most just joining the bandwaggon. I’ll slate him if he deserves it but on last nights performance, which is what the match report was on, it is ludicrous. Surprisingly, there was not a mention of other players who were awful, just throwing the Neville was shite card in there and trying to make people believe that he is the root cause of all this bad form.

If we got points for poor passes, poor tackling, yellow cards and red cards then we would be in the CL next season. Neville is consistetently poor in midfield and not much better at right back...Watch the game again yesterday if you get the chance..HE WAS SHITE !!! END OF

Ian Mitchell - you are 100% right. Im not Nevilles biggest fan but last night he played well and quite frankly I think the vast majority of those slating him were taking the easy "Neville is shite approach"...At least be fair and if the lad plays well give him his due...dont already have your pre-conceived ideas...Mind you at least it means they are leaving Hibbert alone this week!

Out of the 10 league games lost this season, in 9 of them Neville has started the match in midfield. In the other game Away V Fulham, Johnson went off injured after 14 minutes, Hibbert came on and Neville moved (you've guessed it) to midfield. Make of that what you will!

Four minutes extra time was a laugh! I think it was Essien who suddenly sat down on his backside and then laid down - no-one near him at the time. On rush the staff with smelling salts - he was on the pitch splayed out for 3 minutes - I timed it, then jumped up and ran off with no apparent problems. WHAT A BIG CON!! and we get 4 minutes extra time - should have been at least 6 - Sir Alex wouldn?t have put up with that!

Connor, I can’t agree that Corluka, Finnan or Lucas Neill are better full backs than Neville, an G Neville has played how many games this season??

If you look at Ben Atkins’ stat, you may see that your argument about Hibbert being as good as him doesn’t quote stack up either.

Most of the games Hibbert has played, at least 2 of the 4 midfielders you mention were in the side, and yet he by-passed them with his ’control and chip’ maenouvre which is the most consistent part of his game.

I just think that Neville is the only option we have at right back, as Hibbert is not in the same league, but would agree that Glen Johnson would be an ideal signing

Totally agree with Ian Mitchell, by the way
