Pienaar, anybody?

Wasn't he meant to be signing today or was that just a typical Everton white elephant? I can see this one dragging on for a few more months yet!

I looked at that story earlier in the week and thought, "Now is this a real story? Worthy of our Homepage? Or is this just more Rumour Mill rubbish we are being fed?"

Normally I go with the basest instinct but as we were all being so negative ahead of the massive Thursday night game (cough, cough) I thought "Why not try to be positive and pretend this is real?" So much for positive thinking...

I think this deal will be sorted, haven?t we still got 11 days? I think we?re just showing his agent we won?t be pushed around.

In terms of other signings I do like the sound of this Michael Bradley and I have seen enough of Joe Ledley to think he could be a good addition. Keep Manny too and maybe one more signing on top and I?ll be pretty happy.

Irrespective of whether or not EFC buys Pienaar - this whole debacle goes to show yet again just how incompetent EFC are at managing their communications.

Let’s face it - Everton must have known that there was a time limit on the Pienaar deal, and must have decided well before this month that they wanted him or not... So WHY do we come to April and the player is making noises in the press saying he knows nothing about it? Closely followed by a statement from Everton saying "we’re on it", then another saying "we’ll tie it up in a week" and then the wonderful vacuum we the fans have come to expect from this club when dealing with transfers - especially transfers of which the fans are in favour.

I really hope that whoever it is in Everton that allows (or designs) that such a situation can come to pass actually recognises the effect it has on the fans - I for one have no confidence that anyone at Everton has the slightest business acumen at all.

I despair

Dont know about the Piennar story but I have it from a very good source that Brian Howard the Barnsley skipper is at Everton next week with his agent for talks
with a view to signing next season.Howard has already knocked back Readings 15k a week offer and wants to come here.Watch this space.

Let's hope he can walk through Chelsea and Man Utd defences the same way he walked through Liverpool?s eh Tony.

Tony Marsh, who is your source mate? I am a very big fan of Howard and I think he could cut it in the Prem. I Couldn’t see him costing much more than 3 million either.

I was at the Chelsea game on Thursady night with some one who knows Brian Howard very well. I knew nothing about it until he told me then. Apparently it almost a done deal. Just have to see if we cock it up or something. You know... by offering him less than Reading did, or such like...

Brian Howard indeed.... If that?s the calibre of player that you are happy with and think will improve the current squad then I pity you!!... Why not go the whole hog and get Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Stephen Carr and Sean Davies ? what additions they?ll make!!!

No wonder this club always fails, just like the manager the majority of the supporters are happy just to compete... WELL I?M NOT! ? I WANT US TO FUCKING WIN SOMETHING... so excuse me if Brian Howard etc doesn?t have me jumping out of my seat!!

Nelly,
Did you jump out your seat when we signed Cahill, Lescott, Yobo, Arteta ?

Michael what’s your point....So what your’re saying is we should take a gamble with our future. is it??
When we signed the four players you mentioned we were annual relegation candiddates and those four are clearly better players than we had at the club at the time . Can you honestly say that the players we are being linked with are better than we’ve already got and will IMPROVE our squad. How many times have you actually SEEN this Bradley PLAY ??? not many I’ll bet.
Even Moyes has recently admitted we dont just need numbers we need more QUALITY and in my opinion picking players from the THIRD Division (i.e Howard) and turning them into world beaters are long gone. Indeed just to back this up please tell me the last club to do this. Whilst I’m talking about Howard isn’t he an attacking midfiel d player. Where do you see him fitting into the team perhaps at the expense of Cahill or maybe Arteta..thought not !!
We need to sign players who are BETTER than we have at the moment...players who can go straight into the side not players who might DO A JOB !!...we’ve already got loads of them i.e. Carsley, Hibbert, Neville etc, trouble is none of them do it very well !!.
I’ll venture to say that IF we sign the players I have mentioned that in 12 mths time you and thousands of others will be on here slaughtering the team because yet again we will have fallen behind!!
We have to sign QUALITY players not just also rans....or perhaps you’re one of these people who is happy just to compete( and you are entitled to your opinion), unfortunately I’m not and I belive you can only be regarded as a good team when you actually WIN something. Finishing fifth and continually bottling it against the SKY 4 because we are scared to attack them isn’t my idea of success.
As for Phil Neville for all his shortcomings (and I agree there are many... he does not pick himself to play in midfield the manager does) I’d rather have him than Steven ’missed most of my career thro injury ’ Carr every day of the week.
