Is it a Ploy?

I think we are all in agreement that we are in a far better situation than when DM took over. As DM said quite openly, it's another 4/5 years to get into the top 4, but only a couple of weeks ago he said we will push the redshite all the way, and haven't we already been in the top 4?

Could we assume that, with DM's contract up for review, he has stabilized the club, and that he no longer wants to go at a steady stabilizing pace for much longer? He knows as we all do that we need money to compete at the next level.

Now whatever your thoughts on BK, he is a fan, and he must be wanting to see silverware ? if only a League Cup. And he must know as a businessman that the money is in the Champions League with a run (along with bigger ground capacity etc); they both have to move onwards. As a manager and as a businessman, do you think DM wants to stay for 4 more years before starting to achieve the next level?

So, could it be this empty feeling we are getting as the season fades is the blandness that DM wants to make BK feel before he signs a new contract? Because DM is ready for the next step in his career and for EFC....

I think the end-of-season contract talks with DM and BK are very pivotal.

Interesting piece Anton. I feel fairly certain that if Kenwright does not come up with some dosh in the summer then Moyes may well consider his options. And who could blame him ?
I have never been Moyes’ biggest fan due to his usual compliance that we are not allowed to challenge the "Big Three" and the RS. However he must be getting very frustrated at repeatedly having to make do and/or mend on the amount he is able to spend.
When you also consider how much so called lesser clubs are likely splash out in the summer it must be pretty galling for Moyes.

Anton, nice piece. And John, great points.

I’ve thought for a long time that Kenwright has been partly at fault for the lack of investment, and the obvious ’it’s my train-set’ mentality. Given the money that the likes of Pompey and Villa (particularly given their talisman’s recent statement, in the face of interest from Chelski and that shower from across the park, that he’d have to consider his options in the summer) will spend over the summer, I think that Kenwright needs to suck it up and get some money in.

I think DM will stay; my personal belief is that he will take over from Alex Ferguson when he moves up to the boardroom..... and I think that?s a gentleman's agreement they have had for a while.....

Good post Matthew, but what's Moyes going to do with Roo Boy when he gets there?

Mathew, why the fuck would Man U want Moyes? They could have their pick of the best managers in the wourld. So why would they want a man, who (in my opinion ) is tactically inept? Even with another 5 years (god help us) experience with us, he would still not be up to that job. I have to laugh how some fans hold Moyes in such high esteem.

I?m guessing you're not a Moyes fan Brian....

Who knows what Moyes's glass ceiling is? It could be his talent, or it could be Everton FC.

The truth is none of us know what kind of manager he will be with a world-class squad to work with.

But I suspect if Sir Alex does move up to the Boardroom or Director of Football, he will want a manager willing to listen to him and to be able to asert his control over.......

Matthew, I like Moyes, and think he is a decent enough manager. But I don?t think he will have the tactical ability, to ever manage one of the so-called top 4. He has shown numerous times that he never seems able to change things tactically, there is never a plan B. Also, how long do you think the Mancs would put up with hoof-ball?

It looks like Ferguson in there for a few more years, by which time who knows what DM has done, and maybe what Roy Keane has, or for all many others.
But I do say this that if Avam Grant can do what hes has with a large talented squad, and still having 15 million in January for sulky "I'm here for 15 months" Anelka as back up, I think moyes could do that.
