Johann Vogel

Saw Vogel, who was heavily linked with a move to Everton, playing for Blackburn on Saturday against Man Utd. He looked like a good defensive midfielder and more than held his own against Mr Ferguson's boys.

The commentator said that Blackburn got him for free. Anyone know why he didn't end up coming to Goodison? He could have been a good replacement/cover for Carsley, albeit on a temporary basis as he's no spring chicken. Surely the wages wasted on Mad Dog could have been used much more wisely on this guy.

ps: Please don't buy Steve Carr DM

He was shite is his first two games. He looked out of his League against Liverpool. I didn’t see the Utd game so I can’t comment.

Fact is Moyes obviously didn’t rate him. He could have signed him for around 1 million which is nothing and he refused. Obviously didn’t see anything in him.

Think it was just the fact he wasn’t fit and it would have taken until now to get him match fit. No-one could have envisiged our current injury problems and so for the outlay on signing on fee’s, agent fee’s and wages just to play a few games at the end of the season seemed not good value for money.

Moyes obviously has his eye on a few players he’ll bid for over the closed season to replace carsley and didnt see vogel as a long term replacement and felt he’d be better off saving his money.

I guess it may have something to do with the length (and wages) of contract on offer, as Moyes generally has a policy of only offering 1-year contracts to players who are over 30.

I?d also like to think that Moyes is holding out for his first-choice defensive midfielder in the summer!

I watched Vogel in the games against the RS & Man U...he was awful in both games and IMO looked way out of his depth....How anyone can say he looked good is beyond me !!...Lucky escape me thinks !!

It does amaze me that we always big up players in other teams, especially those below us when they play well in one off games!

Yes he played well against Man U as did the whole Blackburn team, though they were all equally shocking against Liverpool.

The measure of a player is how he performs over a whole season, a couple of weeks ago people were suggesting that Ghally would be a good buy as he played well against us but again must have generally been poor elsewhere for Derby to be bottom.

Our players must be good enough for 5th if thats where we finish, could we finish higher with Vogel, Ghally etc I very much doubt it!

Probably down to the name. I know loads of Vogels, and they’re all hotheads and crap at footy. Definately not worth £1million. Well done Moyes!
