The Mail Bag

And who's the Greatest of them All...?

Little, curly Alan Ball.

Don't forget, good people... tomorrow April 25 is the first anniversary of the loss of the very best footballer I personally have seen in the Royal Blue of Everton.

Jeez, I miss him...

The club gets rightly criticised when it gets things wrong, but the Official Site tribute to Bally on the anniversary of his death is spot on. Well done EFC. RIP Bally.

I never got the opportunity to see Alan Ball play in person, only on archive footage. I will not argue the point that he was one of Everton’s best players, to that there is no doubt, but I was brought up watching the likes of Bob Latchford and Mike Lyons, who really were good players, the former being one of the clubs greatest Goalscorers ever. I would argue the point that William Dean was the greatest player to ever pull on a Blue Shirt, although players such as Dave Hickson and Brian Labone are not far behind.

Rest in peace Bally.

Being only 17, I never got the chance to see the Holy Trinity. I would have loved to have seen them play
On the few occasions I did meet Bally, he was an absolute gentleman. He was kind and friendly, and willing to talk to me. Who?s the greatest of them all? Little, Curly, Alan Ball.
RIP Bally.
