Ins and outs?

Comments (9)

Silly season is upon us and not doubt we will be linked with countless players. Spurs have already fired the first shot 16 million for modric — the boy's good but not that good; if he was he'd be going to Barca, AC Milan, etc.

So looking at players I would love for us to go for, Gudjohnson at Barca is a proven Premier league player not getting a look in there. And I'm sure he would complement the Yak.

I'm sure Moyes has his eyes on people but we could do good business by picking the bones of top clubs and hopefully picking up players with something to prove.

The perennial trouble there is that the top clubs pay top wages and we can't compete with the likes of Newcastle and now Spurs in that area.

Eidur Gudjohnson would be an excellent signing. He could play up front (competition for AJ) or in the hole (competition for Tiny). Effective no-frills player. At 30yrs he should be affordable.

On a related thread, according to the rumour mill, Everton would look for 12M to sell Arteta.

Ok, its probably bullshit but my question is whether people would think this represents good value? Could that money be used to buy someone else? Ideally, we?d want to keep him AND purchase someone else but if money is tight, is it worth considering? My view would be no - assuming we get him & Cahill back playing injury free.

£12M for a proven premiership player with 4 years left on his contract? If Modric is worth £15-£20M then Arteta should be at least that. The only way I could see him leaving for as little as £12M is if he makes a complete nuisance of himself demanding transfers etc.

If Birmingham go down I think we should try to sgn Zarate on loan for a year.

He looks really good and he is something different to what we have. Takes people on, really good on the ball, direct, attacking... and that's when he come on playing for Birmingham !

I?d like to see Moysie go for Arshavin from St Petersburg. I know his name has been mentioned before but he is definitely a class player and also the Russia captian and is useful in 2 or 3 positions. He would probably cost bout £10mil but would be worth the gamble. Doubt his wages would be sky high either. Gudjohnson is probably on £80grand a week at Barca and there is no way at the moment we can compete with the likes of Spurs, Newcastle or even City when it comes to wages.

Hey Dominic,
Your description of Zarate sounds like another Birmingham player - McFadden! He did well again at the weekend but this style of player is seen as a luxury at hard-working Everton.

We dont have much saleability in the following but Wessels, Valente, Gardner, V D Meyde and Gravesen are deadwood and must go. Depending on how much we have to spend it may be worth cashing in on a one of the following Arteta, Osman, Cahill or AJ. I also feel Hibbert is out of his depth as we push to the next level but have no problem with him being right back cover. Other than that Vaughan is another injury prone player and may be worth offloading. We desperatley need to sign 2 central midfielders and another striker who can find the net. Appiah is a player who would bulk up our midfield and Bullard has also been impressive this season, with Fulham looking likey to be relegated he could be a realistic target.

If Birmingham go down we could always sign McFadden? Why Not- he’s better than Andrew Johnson!

Speculation is pointless until we know if we will be in Europe next season. When we finish 5th we can start looking at Gudjonson Appiah etc, not before.

I know its fun but No Uefa Cup ? No Atars, simple as that.
