Old Friends!

Can we climb out of our disappointment at the Blues recent form and offer our congratulations to three Everton old boys who will appear in the two European finals later this month?

Our old (and I mean old - so old that he even lost out on a 'behind the bench' slot now filled by Anthony Gardner ) skipper David Weir and our much loved former boss ( who led us through the bad old days of 'Agent J'), Sir Walter Smith tonight reached the Uefa Final.

'He who should not be mentioned' at Old Trafford should also be congratulated and don't let's forget that most of the money that bought most of our current expensive stars was generated by Wayne's transfer. Thanks to the three of you. See you all in Europe next year even if it is just the Uefa Cup for us.

Walter Smith was as "disappointing" a manager as we have ever had. He had budgets far more comparable with the top teams then Moyes ever has and did much worse. He constantly talked us down and crushed any expectations we had of anything other than mediocrity.
David Weir was a great player for us though so I offer him my congratulations.

I wasn’t a massive fan of Smith but I do realise is a good manager. He probably came hear at the wrong time of our history.

David Weir is a great servant to this club and one of the true legends of the 90s so he gets my best wishes.

Rangers do not though. I’m a Celtic man myslelf.

Even though in my opinion he was forced out, never in a million years will I feel anything but dislike to the horrible little man, He has never said a kind word or thank you to the people at the club who are responsible for where he is now, add that to his antics when he has been back here and lets be honest has he improved as much as we thought under good old Alex?
I expected him to be the worlds best and he is not even the Mancs best and I laugh at this, as I remember all the sly press comments when he left about how Sir Alex wil do a better job with him, well he is still great, but that comes with age and experience anyway, bitter yes but only to the horrible, congrats to Weir and even to boring old Walter who tried but failed.

No...don’t think I’ll be giving a tip of the old hat to Rooney...please lay off the peyote, Glen!

Well done to Walter Smith for guiding the team to the final. I hope Davey Weir goes out with a winners medal as well.
As for Rooney, I couldn’t care less. At least Walter and Davey put in some graft for us. They’ve earnt their congratulations as far as I’m concerned...

Personally I don’t give a Rat’s Arse about any of them. They were once part of Everton, so were Mitch Ward, Mo Johnston, Mikel Madar, Jason Kearton, Brett Angell and Marc Hottiger.

I’m more concerned about what is currently happening at Everton, and so should you be.

Congrats to Davie great servant to us. Rooney can F...k off... wanker. As for Walter I also wish him the best although his boring defensive tactics make it hard for anyone but a Gers fan to be happy to see them in the final.

Joe, are you seriously comparing David Weir to Mitch Ward, Brett Angell et al????

Congratulations to Walter and Davey Weir but I wouldn't even consider the boy who forgot where he came from.

Let's look at the other angle though Fiorentina played them off the park and went out on penalties ? ring any bells?

I can’t bring myself to congratulate Rooney. But Glasgow Rangers deserve some amount of recognition for getting to the Final, even if I do lean towards the green and white side of the city.

I saw the closing stages on ITV4 last night, not exactly drooling at the mouth in anticipation of the outcome, but penalties are always interesting to watch, except of course when it’s our club that are involved!

Saint Petersburg start as favourites for the final, but that’s not surprising. Any team that can put four goals past Germany’s best side without reply must be useful.

Davy Weir and Walter Smith I am pleased for. Walter tried here but as we know, failed. I won’t forget the many Rangers fans telling us via certain sites how bad Walter was and how he left Rangers in ruins. I hope they get well and truely beaten as their fans deserve it. I met Walter once and he was a decent bloke who had time to talk and help were he could.

As for Rooney.

Come on Chelsea.

What are you on Glen? Glenfiddich?
Congratulate Rooney? Money generated from his transfer? Give us a fucking break fella! We owe no debt of gratitude to that fat littlle knobhead.
I really hope he wins nothing else in his career. Call it bitter, but I can't help how I feel.
On the total other end of the scale, I would like to see Walter and Davey Weir win the Uefa Cup, they tried their best for Everton.

As usual we see different things in different ways but Tim K........I wonder of you are maybe very young or a ?new Everton fan? but if you really were ther back then , something has gone badly wrong with your memory.

OK we can?t all agree about everything but if you can find anybody who was closer to the club in the Smith days just ask how much of a budget Agent Johnson gave Walter.

To the guys who dismiss my comments about Rooney , please think about this. Add up the cost of the transfer fees for the players now in our first team squad and compare that total to the figure that we brought in from Rooney?s sale. Did Rooney jump ship or was he pushed? I don?t know.... and apart from the usual bullshitters who told us that Alan Smith was down the road about to sign last year and this one and that one too, nobody that I can believe has ever confirmed if Kenwright went to Newcastle and Manchester, looking to sell the player or if it was Rooney?s fall out with Moyes that started the ball rolling.

So many lies were told.......... who knows the truth ? I do know that Duncan Ferguson did not want to leave. Dacourt did not want to go, Materazzi etc etc wanted to stay but were pushed out to pay the bank.

David Moyes has had (by a mile) the biggest budget to transfer in AND to contract players that any manager in Everton history has ever had. OK he has only had six years to build his team. Smith has had one season at a cash-strapped Rangers club to scrimp and scape up a squad.

None of the posters above mentioned Rangers? incredible injury list and the fact that they faced Fiorentina WITH Mutu.... very different from us. I think the fact that Alan Hutton (Rangers? best player this season ) was sold to Spurs back in January also seems to have been missed.

Just a thought......if we sell Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Arteta and Yakubu in the summer to ?clear our overdraft? and replace these guys with free transfer signings, how would you see David Moyes?s Everton next season?

Top half ?......................Hmmmmmmmm!

David Moyes is still learning as he will admit but how happy would we have been to win anything in David?s six years. InterToto could be the place to start the winning habit this summer but we will have to wait and see how the Premier League finishes.

Glen, nobody knows for certain what exactly goes on behind the closed doors of Goodison but I think we need to make a few assumptions. Agent Johnson gave Smith a bagful of money but then the following summer informed him that he needed to recoup that same cash and so Materazzi & Dacourt were sold, both at a profit. Materazzi wanted to return to Italy or so he was quoted and I?m not sure Dacourt wanted to be there once he realised what a mess we were in. As for Rooney, I think he is the best English player of his generation and we let him go cheap. I think this "was he pushed" stuff is a red herring as he saw the better chance for personal success at Old Trafford and he took it. No loyalty despite all his bullshit about Once a Blue..... Blaming Moyes is childishness on his part. If he loved the club he could have given it at least another season surely. The amount of money we received covers the Yak, AJ?s &VDM?s fee approx but that?s also irrelevant. He?s a shameless traitor. And as for Rangers, I hope they get a hammering as I?m a Celtic man plus I backed Zenit at 33/1 to win it in February.

Walter Smith was a dour man, who played dour football. His belief in signing 30 somethings who were past their best-before date was astonishing. I watched the team under Mike Walker, Joe Royle and Kendall but after a couple of seasons under Smith I could watch no more. He took on a poor team and simply made them older. He made Everton play quite possibly the most boring football I have ever witnessed. There was no cup excitement, no chance of Europe and not even relegation excitement. I know Moyes?s football isn?t exactly the School of Science but Walter was appalling.

Someone cracked on about Moyes?s transfer budget, the budget has only stemmed from success. Remember his first summer and the capture of Marcus Bent, the road to the top half and on a limited budget, oh yeah, and with the majority of the players that Smith had left. Davy Wier was a fantastic servant.

Wally, he should be remembered as a proud man, but nothing else.

Rooney... don?t get me started.
