Tom Huddleston: Perfect signing?

Comments (35)

TOM HUDDLESTONE - Get him in, hopefully there would be no massive transfer fee and he would not break the wage structure but has an eye for the odd goal or two and can really pass the ball, plus he would solve our height issues.

Also, at just 22 years old, he has time on his side to develop into a world calss midfielder.

A regular for the England under 21s, he can add to our ever growing pool of young home grown talent.

Standing at over 6ft 3in tall, I feel he would add lots to our team as we don't have much height at the minute in the middle.

Despite the fact that he is contracted to Spurs til 2011, he does not seem to be a favourite of Ramos so hopefully a cheeky bid might tempt Spurs to part with his services.

Maybe a little controversial but I reckon we should have a sneaky bid for Crouch, to be honest I used to slate him but the more I see of him play he really is pretty good. Even if it seems like luck when he's doing these great finishes etc it can only happen so often before you have to say it is skill rather than luck. He you played him for 30 games a season I would bet he would score around 15 or so. Should get a mixed bag of retorts I reckon.

Huddlestone could be a good shout aswell as Crouch for the right money and if they don’t play you can stand them in a bucket of shite and grow some lovely runner beans so it’s a win win I reckon.

I wouldn’t sign Huddlestone for 25p, even if he came with a packet of peanuts and a map of Soho!

I have to endure constant bemoaning of this kid from myYid of a brother and his mates. They think he is shit. I think he would be pretty good... On Celebrity Fat Club!

I told you Gardener was shit, looks like Davey found that out pretty quickly. Now we should buy his slower, fatter, lazy, one dimentional North London brother.

A brother I might add that has no command of midfield, poor work-rate, no defensive awareness, no leadership, determination or inspiration. Unfortunately I have had to endure his shit every week... and although this may appear funny in a white shirt, it sure as hell won’t be in a blue.

It is a sorry state of affairs when the only qualification you need to replace Carsley is your height and the ability to pass!

Not good enough for Spurs, not good enough for us - end of!

I did not suggest he would be a replacement for Carsley. Carsley is defensive whereas Huddlestone is classed by most pundits as a passing playmaker so not sure how you came to this conclusion???
Have you ever seen Huddlestone play cos if you have you would not have suggested I meant as replacement for Cars.

Also, Yakubu ain’t exactley thin and look at the impact he has had, 19 goals from a fat bloke.
Unsworth was a legend in his time and he made Yak look like Kate Moss.

Yeh, but Rhino was all muscle, not much brain but strong.

Huddlestone, undecided, he might be a poor-man's Hoddle?? But can we afford to carry him for his pluses, such as they may or may not be, in the EP lungbursting League?

Fair point, not good enough for Spurs not good enough for us.

IF!! Moyes was to buy him would he turn out to be a Cahill/Lescott or a Krøldrup./ AvdM?

I would rather err on the side of caution and go for Sidewell. If the price is right why not the 2?? The game is won or lost in the midfield.

I really like Sidwell and although the fee would not be out of our reach, I feel that his wages would be too high.

He must be on about £60k per week at Chelsea and in the same situation as Scott Parker, I don’t feel like he would take a massive drop.

Huddlestone must surely be worth a punt given his age and if we could get him for a decent price then we might bag ourselves a good young Englishman.

Also, there are lots of players that were not considered good enough or just simply not wanted by their manager that have gone to other clubs and been awesome.

Graham Stuart, Andrei Kanchelskis, Arteta and Kevin Campbell to name but a few blues.

Jermain Defoe was sold by Ramos and I am guessing that most of you would have signed him when he was not wanted by Spurs.

Mascherano anyone????

9   Posted 10/05/2008 at 07:42:02

Don?t tell me you wrote this article not knowing which position he plays in!? Huddlestone IS a CDM!

Unless he is auditioning for ?Celebrity Makeover? that would obviously be the position that we would buy him for!!!

So we buy him and according to your logic, watch him as he neither goes forward (due to a severe lack of pace - fuelled by dunkin doughnuts) or goes back (in fear that he might have to tackle).

Maybe he should pitch a tent in the middle and go Brokeback!

Forget the cut-and-paste of You Tube, living in London with a Spurs fan has forced me to go to White Hart Lane more times than I want to remember. Through varying mediums I have watched Spurs closely all season and I can categorically state that this kid is all wrong for us!

Ask yourself this... If Huddlestone is such a creative genius why have Spurs just paid £16.5M for Luka Modric?

Oh yeah... Yakubu is a fat bas?tad. Lucky he scores goals aye!
Anthony Jaras
10   Posted 10/05/2008 at 08:19:50

So Jason, by your logic, we can’t have Huddlestone AND Carsley on the same squad??????

I admit, I have only watched Huddlestone on TV and at games involving Everton so you are probably more qualified than me at assessing him due to your trips to the Lane.

However, I/we as viewers can only give opinions on what we see and everytime I have seen him he looks like a good young player with and eye for a pass and despite the views that he needs to lose weight, seems to have a good level of fitness for a big guy.

I remember Richard Dunne at 22, slow and fat too, and he is awsome now!
Anthony Jaras
11   Posted 10/05/2008 at 08:25:42

Also, if Defoe and Keane were such goalscoring geniuses (Which they get quite a lot of) why did they buy Berbatov and Bent for massive fees???

For squad competiotion and squad cover, which is why they have just strengthened thier midfield with Modric.

Thats what forward thinking clubs do.
Gary Tudor

He would be a great signing for us!
Jason Broome
13   Posted 10/05/2008 at 08:33:49

Huddlestone has no future at WHL. He was bought by Jol to replace Carrick as a CDM... as a result Jol got the sack, Spurs spent 13 weeks fighting relegation, whilst their defence, with no adequate cover took more hits than Elvis.

As for Bent, Martin Jol didn’t want him... The chairman signed him!

Huddlestone & Carsley in the same team? Paying two players to do one job.... Nah!

As the Chinese would say "many a wrong step has been made from standing still." (Apart from weight) Huddlesone adds nothing to our team. So finally to reiterate something that I do agree with...

"Thats what forward thinking clubs do. "

I fully agree with you, that is why this post should read... ’Lorik Cana, Perfect Signing.’

No wonder this club has no ambition as it knows that the majority of its supporters don't have any either ... So as long as we remain an also-ran who avoids relegation that will do... Well it WON'T do for me!!!
Tom Huddlestone.... If that?s the limit of your ambition & the type of player you think will make us a regular contender and give us a chance of breaking into the top four then I pity you. I know, why don't we get Koumas to play alongside him & Stephen Carr, Sean Davies to improve the Squad... NOT

I?m no great fan of Carsley but compared to Huddlestone he?s a world beater!!! Why is it people on here always suggest we buy players NOT GOOD ENOUGH to get a regular game at their current club, all of whom are sitting well behind us in the league???
Surely we have to look way beyond Huddlestone and the like.

Anthony ....was that 22 yrs old or 22st ??

16   Posted 10/05/2008 at 11:36:07

Lorik Cana is a monster... one that I would love to see in Everton colours. With him in the midfield, wankers like Gerrard, Ronaldo, Fabregas will shit their pants... haha. Though I reckon he will be sent off more than he will be playing from what I?ve seen of his vids.

i would gladly take Crouch n sell AJ to fund it though the Spanish Waiter has priced him at £15m. Hell I?ll take Benayoun too since they both rotting and wasting at the Shite. Sometimes it bugs me to think why these kind of players would rather be on the bench than playing unless they really greedy lazy bastards.

Jason Broome: What’s with the ’Yid’ term? Enough people find it offensive and racist so why use it?
Jay Harris
18   Posted 10/05/2008 at 12:51:57

If Huddlestone is the height of our ambition then we will truly go backwards.

Ramos is no fool and he sees a laid back spray passes do nothing type player - in MF FFS -the engine room of a team.

Carsley covers more ground in 10 mins than Huddlestone in 90.

Sidwell is to MF what Jags is to centre half a good solid squad player who by all accounts is only!! on 35000 per week at Chelsea.

However we must prioritise quality and get Manny signed ASAP and then look for a quality defensive mid like Appiah.

Another striker wouldn't go amiss and Crouch at £12 mill wouldn't be a bad punt if we can get him.
Connor Rohrer
19   Posted 10/05/2008 at 12:55:53

It depends what where looking for really. I see Huddlestone as a deep lying play maker similar to Manny but without the creativity. He has a tendency to spray crossield balls all game insteasd of looking for the through ball.

He’s not the quickest either nor is he the hardest working player. He can loose all the weight he wants in the world but the fact of the matter is he’ll never be a mobile midfielder. I’d take him for a reasonable price but I wouldn’t make him my priority.

We need a defensive midfielder with legs and presence.

Simple Simon, Spurs fans call themselves the Yid army. It's there chosen nickname.

I've been saying for ages now... Lorik Cana.
Connor Rohrer
22   Posted 10/05/2008 at 13:23:40

I think Lorik Cana is little unrealistic to be honest. Big teams want him and these are teams we can’t compete with financially.

He’d more than likely cost around 15 million which will probably be the majority of our transfer budget.

From what I’ve seen on Setanta he’s nowhere near as good as people make out. I hope people haven’t been watching the Youtube clip and judging. Watch him properly. Personally I think he’ll end up at someone like Arsenal.

Cana signing for Bayern Munich unfortunately.
Michael Kenrick
24   Posted 10/05/2008 at 14:34:55

Look, can we please just limit this to players who have actually beeen "linked" with Everton. We’re really not interested in anybody else’s wish list other than David Moyes’s ? his is the only one that matters.
Connor Rohrer
25   Posted 10/05/2008 at 15:07:47

Michael Kenrick, both Lorik Cana and Tom Huddlestone have been linked with Everton this season.

Neither are what I would call realistic targets but they have definitely been linked.

I guess what got my goat was that people are picking players who have already moved elsewhere. Keep it real... I must have been smashed when I put this thread up last night, I’m right on the edge of deleting it.

27   Posted 10/05/2008 at 15:34:32

Connor: check your facts on that one. Some Spurs fans use the term ’Yod’ and others, particularly Jewish fans, hate it. Like I said, people find the term offensive. Do some research on it if you don’t believe me.
Simple Simon
28   Posted 10/05/2008 at 15:38:10

And that’s ’Yid’ not ’Yod’ (my typo)

Simple Simon, every Spurs fan I know call themselves the Yid Army. I don?t know where the nickname comes from nor do I care but they have chosen to embrace it rather than find it insulting.

Obviously it's based on the hooligan element of Spurs but a lot of normal supporter have chosen to adopt it aswell.

A lot of Spurs fans could find it offensive though so in a way I agree with you. I think it was an honest mistake on Jason Broome?s behalf.
Simple Simon
31   Posted 10/05/2008 at 16:48:08

Connor: I find it bizarre that you, or anyone else with half a brain, is unaware that the term ’Yid’ is deemed offensive and anti-semitic by many Jewish individuals, particularly if used by non-Jewish people. Just because some people embrace a negative term does not mean outsiders ought to use it.

Anyway, enough of the soap box.
Connor Rohrer
32   Posted 10/05/2008 at 17:01:20

Simple Simon, I know what It means I just don?t know the reason why Spurs adopted the nickname.

I?m not arguing with you as I agree, I just don?t believe Jason Broome was trying to be offensive. A lot of people do belive that "Yids" or "Yid army" is there nickname like ours is Toffees for example. An honest mistake in my opinion.

As you?ve said enough of this soap box.
Jason Broome

Conner Rohrer... Thanks for defending my corner, mate. Maybe we should sign you. Oops sorry Michael my wishlist!

If I have offended anyone on this site then I duly apologize.

Conner was right. The term for their supporters denotes pride in their Jewish roots and is their adopted nickname. Even Alan Sugar referred to himself as a Yid!

Check out these quotes...
Mr Adelman, who is Jewish... says he is proud to call himself a Yid: "It’s pretty naïve to expect that if Spurs fans stopped using the word Yid today then all other fans will stop their anti-Semitic abuse."

And the head of communications at Spurs, Donna Cullen, also played down the issue. She said: "If you want me to get worked up about something then Yid chanting is not it.

"If the club gets two complaints a year about Yid chanting then we have had a busy season. We as a club would not dream of asking our supporters to give it up until something is done about the anti-Semitism."

Simon I’m not the type to create harm, however being 1/4 Jewish myself I guess I should of known better!

One more thing. Even if we can’t buy Cana, he should be the benchmark of our ambitions.

Not sure if he would be our perfect signing Anthony?

Although if we could pick him up for around 4mil it might just pay to see how he develops in coming seasons! Osman was a late developer so who knows?

We do have a few players in the academy that look pretty good too, anyone know if we can expect any more to make the step up?
Brett Bradshaw
35   Posted 11/05/2008 at 21:25:41

On the ’Perfect Signing’ and in my opinion, one Wayne Rooney would get my vote!

Once a blue, always a blue!

He will be loving the fact we got European football again and now he has won the EPL and providing United do the business he will also have the CL, I reckon he only has two more ambitions. World Cup and win something with his beloved Everton!

Ah perfect
