The Summer Clearout

Comments (20)

With the departures of Thomas Gravesen, Stefan Wessels, Anthony Gardner... I now ask you else will follow? In my view Mikel Arteta, Victor Anichebe and Lee Carsley are three who are top of the list.

Arteta many times has denied time after time that he wants to stay but there's no smoke without fire and I would say he's Spain bound with Barcelona on the lookout.

Anichebe is simply not up to being an Everton striker. Two years now he's underperformed not scored and not worked hard for the team. For me, accept £2m from a Championship side.

Fernandes must stay and his Newcastle match showed that. Not judging it all on one match but he's showed recently how important he is. Excellent set pieces, killer pass, great skill, people moan at his lack of tracking back, but how can you posess everything.

For me Lee Carsley's substitution at the end, was his chance to say goodbye and the way he's been talking recently he'll be departing us.

If we are to truly move on we need at least 8 players. A right back, a centre mid, a defensive midfielder, a right winger, 2 strikers, centre back and another attacking midfielder. Time will tell what we get expect some quick Bosman signings shortly.

Moyes said that he wants to know how much he has got as the best Bosmans will be snapped up quickly. I've had a look on the net but cant find the list...only one on a liverpool fan site but that looks incorrect. Anyone have a link?

Rid of Mikel Arteta... Are you crazy? Also Carsley will do for back up for another season, what if the player brought in to replace him doesn't work out like Jags in cm. I dont think you've thought this one through,

Did I miss it? I read that Wessels and Gravesen were to depart, but there's no news on our other one-season wonder Anthony Gardner. Is this cos Moyes has already sent him packing ages ago, becuase he feels he's been so far from the first team its not worth commenting on? Or, god forbid, Moyes wants to take a longer look at him???

Nice of you to forget Anichebe’s exploits in Europe. I’m just surprised you didn’t say clear out HIbbert. At last someone who realises that he’s on a long contract so probably not worst roasting that old chestunut.

Anichebe is "in development"

He needs to be playing regular football, and if we had the strikers, I’d simply loan him out to a top championship (sic) side so that he got that experience.

If he couldn’t make it there, sell him, if he picks up experience, we’ve gained a better striker who came through our academy system.

Everton fans are too quick to rush to judgement. We don’t know if he’ll simply become another Chadwick - we need to bring him on like Ossie.

I think that the priority HAS to be the defensive midfielder slot AND securing the services of Manny on a permanent basis. Although I have to admit that this could involve an outlay of some 20 million I think it would be worth it. Not really sure who that defensive midfielder should be though. Lots of people have spoken about Cana as the man who can sit in front of the back four and break up the attacks and then pick out a pass to start the attack but I dont know much about him.

If there is any money left then I would think about looking at the flanks next with maybe barnes or ledley.

The defence is fine for me. I know that Neville and Hibbert have had their critics on this site but at the end of the day if we judge them on their ability AS DEFENDERS then they are fine for the moment. I would be inclined to give Valente a new contract to cover the left back position.

I have a HORRIBLE feeling that Moyes may spend a large amount on a back up goalkeeper this summer but I believe that Ruddy or Turner are ready.

Finally, I know he doesn’t fit into any of the categories above but I would also like to see a bid for Brian Howard in the summer as back up to Manny.

Sorry for the long post everyone, a few beers this evening have got me all excited again!!!!

Gravesen, Wessels, Gardner and possibly Carsley will go. At the stage of his career Cars probably wants first team football and Moyes can’t guarantee this. Similar to Stubbsy I think he’ll leave to get first team football. Shame really as he’d be good back up.

Other than that we should be looking to keep as many players as possible. The only player I’d be willing to sell is Johnson. We’d get a good price for a very average player and would be able to strengthen the squad in other areas.

We need atleast 5 players in the summer. A right back, two centre midfielders, a winger with pace and possibly a striker.

Having the likes of Vaughan, Cahill, Arteta etc for a full season will also be useful.

8 players are you joking, what kind of team would finish fifth and bring in 8 players and totally disrupt the harmony. I hope we sign 4, they are Michael Bradley promising midfielder from heerenveen, Manuel fernandes, Andriy Arshavin and a right back or striker depending who is available. Its not whole sale changes we need but a couple of quality players will make a difference.

Sell Anichebe for 2 million! Surely a Joke.

He proved in europe he has potential, and his performance yesterday was very good.

Sell for 2mil and replace him with what, who at 2million and very low wages would replace him.

His strengh and pace give him the basics to become a very good player. Most of his appearances have been 10 minute cameos, mainly to offer pace and strengh in the final few minutes, hold up the ball and maintain a victory.

You say you expect him to be in the clear-out. What, apart from your personal opinion says he will be part of a clear-out, nothing.

He has his limitations, but with the right training he can be an exellent asset. Remember, strikers dont generally peak until mid 20’s, especially when strikers are of his mould. Big, Fast, Strong. The only way to develop these attributes is experiance.

Drogba retired at 22-23 because he supposedly wasn’t good enough, he returned after a year (at 24) to pay the bills, 3 seasons later is a £24 mil striker.

I’m not saying he will be drogba, but at least let him play another couple of seasons before saying he aint good enough.

At the moment he is a very good substitute player, something different to all our other strikers.

Remember, the season is not about clearing out its about Building.

Grav, VdM, Gardner, Wessels dont count as clear outs as they play no role in our season, so it is simply removing wages from the clubs accounts.

Manny doesnt count cos he never contibuted to our season, just 2 games, he’s also on loan and would be considerd a gain for next season opposed to a loss for this.

I predict AJ may move, mainly because he wont get regular footy at everton and still has aspirations for England, and he will command a fee which means he is worth selling (6-10mil) in terms of squad development.

Carsley may leave due to family issues, apart from that I dont see anyone leaving.

Valente may leave becasue his contract is up, but he aint very good anyway.

Howard, a proven reliable keeper
Hibbo, a reliable substitute right-back
Nev, Moyes fave and reliable enough at right back
Baines, future left back
Lescott, Yobo, Jags all exellent
Pienarr, No chance
Arteta, unless a 15-20mil bid is made and he states his desire to leave, i doubt it. Its all paper talk and it occured even before he signed so ignore it. He is vital, and with support and the odd rest will be even better.
Ossie, exellent squad option, plays all areas of midfield, scores, offers something different. Also wont commant a fee that would give allow for a replacement.
Vaughan, just waiting for lady luck
Yak, 30+ next season

Moyes will only have to bring in about 3 players. Vaughan will be fit next season. Jack Rodwell and Gosling are up and coming players. Jose Baxter will break in to the first team soon. I would go for kim kallstrom to do cars job. Joaquin if we could afford him. We don't need forwards.

Fran Mitchell a really good point that most people on here should remember.

"Remember, the season is not about clearing out its about Building."

That?s why I believe its important to keep Carsley who could also develop on the coaching side.

We?ve already lost Faddy and Tommy Grav and were already lightweight in MF so I believe a defensive mid like Appiah/Kallstrom, Manny is a MUST sign,Sidwell for the squad and a quality RB if we can find one(Chelsea just paid 16 million for an average one who IMO is no better than Johnson who they let go).

I also believe he will let Turner go and get a quality deputy GK.

Time for some more rabbits from "Black" Bill

Honestly, Moyes isn’t gonna start mass changing everything on the menu, it’s gonna be one veggie for another, in case it’ll upset his diet.

Anichebe is not, and never will be, good enough; Vaughan is good but is is always injured. We could do worse than sign Michael Owen, as the Mail are speculating today but his wages will prove prohibitive. I trust Moyes, he normally knows what he is doing ie Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill, Lescott, Yakubu, Howard and so on and so on.

I think Anichebe should be loaned out to a Championship side so that he gets regular football and shooting practice. He has the chances and the shots but so many are off target.

Arteta is not good enough for Barcelona and Anichebe is not good enough for Everton.

We need to keep Vic and Arteta, if we get anyone better fine, at least we would have some decent backup for once!

Källström to succeed Carsley? Have you ever seen him play, or have any idea to why he has had so many problems getting into the swedish national teams starting 11? Because he is too unpolished defensively in the eyes of Lars Lagerbäck! In Lyon and in the Swedish national team he plays as an ATTACKING central mid, sometimes on the left for Lyon. He could work for Everton, but probably only as a CM. If you want swedish players however, take a look at Sebastian Larsson: Youngish, good freekick-taker, full international, and since Birmingham was relegated, shouldn´t break the bank.

Victor Anichebe should be scoring more when he starts a game and he needs to work on his finishing but he gives defenders more to worry about than Andy Johnson. As we’re trying to move to European football every season with a higher aim of the Champions League then Johnson will become surplus to requirements. West Ham would suit him and if they offered good money then I would wish him well.

Fran - Did Valente not just get a new deal?

The "no smoke without fire" phrase always amuses me. If you apply it to the other side of transfers you could ask what about Jason Koumas or Alan Smith? They were heavily linked with us last summer and never arrived so it was all smoke and no fire.

Cahill last summer seemed to always be linked with West Ham but again no fire. I honestly think Arteta is staying at Goodison, we have no reason to sell him and he signed a 5 year deal last summer.
