Fair Play To Moyes?

Comments (8)

Congrats to DM and the lads for the 5th place in the Fair Play league. If there is a more honest manager and set of professionals than our lot I'd like to know who they are. Certainly not some of the shite who finished above us.

So we would have pipped City in the end. I am glad we did it the proper way. I would be gutted if we had finished 6th and watch City qualify in this way.

Scottish managers have as a rule, always been known to have a good record of management, with their shrewd and no nonsense approach.

Had a chuckle at Manchester City getting through the back door by way of the Fair Play league, and then watching the 8-1 capitutlaton at the Riverside Stadium.

Who could of predicted that ?

Back to us, and Moyes, and Yes, indeed congratulations are in order for the majority involved at Goodison for their hard work and endeavour last season, (or is it still this season?!) in obtaining fifth place in the league and making satisfactory progression in both the Carling, or League Cup as I prefer, and the UEFA cup. Sad not to hang on to fourth place, but next season who knows, maybe even a piece of silverware could make a long overdue return to Goodison Park.

Watch this space!

So we?re 5th in the fair play league. How does that happen? We got fewer cards than anyone else.

Oh I see what they?ve done, they?ve put all this intangable bollocks on there that none of us would ever have an insight to.

That means that even if, I don?t know, say, Liverpool or Man Utd or Arsenal don?t qualify for Europe then they can get a place anyway.

Is Benitez respectful to oponents? Is Fergie respectfll to referees? Behaviour of officials? Does that include players lamping groundstaff or booting women?

Seems like a con to me.

Perhaps we are 5th in the fair play league because none of our midfield ever get stuck in apart from Carsley. Have you ever seen Osman, Piennar or Arteta win a 50-50 ball? It's a joke. I would sooner us be a shower of nasty Bastards than a team full of choir boys.

Honestly, some of our fans will cling to anything and treat it as some form of success. Fair Play League... you can keep it mate.

Sorry but I’ve got to agree with Marshy on this one. Football is a man’s game and in today’s climate you get booked for sneezing in front of the ref!
I’m all for playing fair but putting yourself into a decent heavy tackle has always been part and parcel of the game. This is similar to the opta stats which tell us we’re one of the best teams in the league or something.
Results count, stats are for...?

Sorry, but there?s a difference between getting stuck in and being late, or moaning at refs til you get sent off, a la Mascherano.

Cloughie wouldn?t stand for any rubbish from his players in that way - it?s part and parcel of being a disciplined unit.

We don?t get the benefit of Sky 4 friendly reffing - cf Kuyt, or Terry?s usual 3 or 4 handballs per season, so we have to box clever.

Given we have a small squad and can?t afford injuries, it?s (an admittedly small) but integral part of getting the maximum from less resources than our competitors ? and something we should be proud of.

I wont forgive Jagielka for trying to apologise to Gerrard in the last derby after a tackle. When we needed battlers this season we didn't have them, our team is full of nice, honest, genuine players ? Bollocks to that! We should be getting in some nasty fuckers to throw the boot in from start to finish!

I’ll go along with John Gee - its a con, a bit like that Olympic sport of Ice Dance. Marks for technical merit, marks for artistic impression. Bollocks. Friendly judges have even awarded 10/10 when their skater fell over.

Red and yellow cards are like that anyway - refs can ignore GBH and penalise a facial expression. And don’t get me going on diving and disallowed goals. But having said that, when the fef makes the crap decision, I want my team to be ready to defend - decisions never change.

And if Arteta isn’t winning 50-50 tackles, its probably because he’s being fouled more than any player in the PL. If Carsley isn’t putting himself about in the role he plays, there would be something seriously wrong. Most of us agree that this is the area of the pitch where we need to gain more strength, but not by bringing in thugs. The squad has been gaining quality year on year, and that is our future.
