Summer Signings

Comments (27)

A member of the EFC scouting staff told me yesterday that Everton have already agreed a fee for Marouane Fellaini from Standard Liege, for around £4.5M with payment as high as £6M if he plays x amount of games, and, becomes a regular in the national team. He is 5' 11" and is more of a holding midfielder, although he likes to get forward. (6 goals in 31 games this past season). It now just depends on personal terms.

The same source says that Michael Bradley, will sign after he comes back from a vacation in the States and Carribean. The fee in the region of £5.5M. Apparantly he has already agreed terms.

You realise that (a) this poor bloke will now be hounded out and pillored for spilling the beans; or (b) he will be richly rewarded for disseminating the spin. Hmmm... I wonder which it will be?

As ever, I'm content to wait until they are pictured on the back of the Echo holding up a blue shirt with their name and number on.

ps... Trussville??? Home of Acme Athletic Supply Inc.? The mind simply boggles...

He’s 6ft 4 isn’t he?

I’ve only seen him once to be honest against our very own Manny Fernandes in a Portugal v Belgium under 21 game.

Didn’t look a holding midfielder to me. Lacked the positioning but certainly had excellent energy which makes me think "box to box" midfielder.

No doubting the likes of Fernandes, Veloso, Moutinho and Nani got the better of Fellini and Belgium on the day.

Other than that though haven’t seen anything of him so couldn’t really comment on his ability.

I have seen Bradley though and I’d take him if its for a reasonable price. He has the ability and tenacity to make a good english style midfielder.

Bradley seems to me to be a DM choice, and Tim Howard might have some pull.

Wyness today offered no information (on the OS) about money etc, so no surprise there. But the name of Fernandes was reported in the piece. This tells me that he is stil a possibility - he hasn’t been ruled out yet.

If Moyes doesn’t yet know his budget this summer, then how does a member of the scouting staff know who we’re definitely signing?

Does anyone know of a site that keeps a tally of every single player we’ve supposedly signed over the summer?

Fellaini is excellent. He was one of the best midfielders on show at last summer’s U21 championship, where his Belgium team outperformed Portugal and reached the semi-finals. He has subsequently helped Standard Liege to their first Belgian title in decades. Not unlike Tim Cahill in being effective in both boxes, particularly with his head.

I was talking to a member of the Everton board and he said we were signing Kaka. Also I was having a conversation with my dog who is mates with Arteta’s dog who apparently said we would also be signing Ronaldinho. etc etc. In other words unless you can state your apparent source why would anyone believe you?

Everton will make a bid for Arshavin ? this is 100% ? but will not go into a bidding war.

Before I start getting asked where my source is from, let's just say it was from the Moyesiah himself.

Plus Gera will sign for Everton from 01 July Medical permitting. Terms already agreed. I was in a resteraunt in Fulwood Preston when he & I assume his family was there. I couldn't resist the chance to go for a slash at the same time and ask the quick questions.

Andy H. I think you’re dog as been mis-informed as my dog regularly takes walks around where Moyes lives and Moyes said that he will be talking to Manchester United’s Ronaldo with a view to a loan and and then a permanent deal if all is well. I can see how your dog got the names mixed up. Easily done.

Not wanting to pour cold water on the speculation, but I didn’t realise our scouting network was spread as far as Trussville, USA?

Perhaps we should sign the whole Man City first team as they are up for sale or is that just media talk?

I don’t know any of the Everton managerial staff and I don’t have any transfers to tell you about. Hope that helps.

If we can sign £20+ million pounds of players, we will improve greatly as a squad. The main issue in all the transfers and loans is doing the business quickly, it is important that any new players get a full pre-season. This has been shown with some of Moyes other great signings. So trust in Moyes. If he gets his business done quickly, I am sure we willl not be dissapointed!!!

Watch out, the so-called Sky 4, we are making great progress!!! Long may it continue.........

Just like to quote the end of the Fellaini article at Wikipedia on this obvious new signing:

"Will be signing for everton fc in the summer transfer window for a fee of £5.75m"

Players to go for this summer.

We need at least three top quality signings who will improve the first team.
We need at least three or four squad players and these would be the likes of Zoltan Gera who would be a good signing for free.
We need a right back and for me I would do as much as I could to bring in Glen Johnson of Portsmouth.

I have watched him closely this season and he has improved so so much since his Chelsea days where he was known for attacking but not defending. Now though he has become a very reliable defender yet still poses a very big threat when going forward which unfortunately our own decent defender at right back Tony Hibbert does not. Hibbo gives his all but the massive sticking point which holds both him and Everton as a team back is the fact that he cannot use the ball whatsoever. Hibbert will be a good squad player but we need something a little better.
We need at least two midfielders and straight away I am thinking of a replacement for Carsley and that is very likey to be one from Michael Bradley who I dont know anything about,Tom Huddlestone of Spurs, Steve Sidwell at Chelsea or Feillaini the Belgian international is a big presence. But then again are they the world class match winners we want? Moyes will know more than us what brand of player he can pursue.

We must go after Arshavin even if we dont manage to get him, we must try.
We should try an audacious bid for David Bentley even though he seems destined for Liverpool or Chelsea.
We need some pace down the wide midfield areas too but I cant think of many of hand available. I wouldn't mind trying our luck for Morten Gamst Pederson from Blackburn either, ok he has had a poor season but perhaps a new fresher challenge is needed for him. He does have the talent.
But its silly season and as we have said only Moyes knows if he can shop in Harrods or not and so far all it will be is pure guess work and rumours.

I know Jimmy Martin, the EFC Kit manager quite well, although he seems to have changed his mobile since I last spoke to him.

He did tell me then tho’ with absolute certainty that Walter would be trying to sign John Collins, even though he was a celt, and two foreigners called Dacourt and Materrazi.

I hope these come off, as they seem to hold more plausibility than some of the bull above.

Hi all I meant to put this up about Huddlestone & Hennessey on Thursday but my internet was fucked up so here it is. I went to watch the Wales u21s vs England U21s match in the hope that Rodwell or Kissock might be playing; unfortunately they weren't so I turned my attention to Huddlestone and Hennessey and avoiding the skills of Agbonlahor and Walcott doing fuck all.

Huddlestone was decent, played a few key passes and the Big man hit the first goal of the game in a well taken penalty. Throughout the game, however, he made some fairly bad tackles and at times looked mediocre at best especially in the first half. Personal Rating = 6.5/10

Hennessey - Was kept fairly busy throughout the match only being beaten by Huddlestone's peg and Walcotts goal which he can't really be blamed for. He looked like a good player for most of the match and kept focused despite not being challenged through the first half. Personal Rating = 7/10

Verdict: Both would be decent signings as back up and for the future but neither would get past Howard or from what I've seen Michael Bradley if we sign him. Hope this helps, obviously I can't judge them on one game but I've seen them on several occasions on TV and they look like good prospects for the future.

This could be it, third time lucky in signing Sean Davies. He didn't attend any of the celebrations after Portsmouth's FA Cup win and the rumour has it once he knew he wasn't going to be involved in the game he spat his dummy out and as asked for a transfer.
