Joaquin

Reading more rumours of our impending bid today. I know its all rumours at this stage, but I have everything crossed on this one. This player makes Christiano Ronaldo look slow and clumsy.

Check this article out and watch the video of Joaquin at the bottom, I have watched it 3 times.

Sublime skills and pace to burn. for me this is the player that would bring us into the top 4.

^^^^ Pessimistic much, why not, if the rumours are true then he’d be a fantastic signing IMHO but we need alot more than Joaquin to get into the top 4, also am I the only one that pronounced his name Yo-a-Keen instead of Hwa-Keen?

I will eat my own arms in joy if we sign this guy. It’ll never happen surely, he’d go to someone like Madrid anyway.

Joaquin will be leaving Valencia but I can’t see him coming to England never mind Everton. The only chance of that happening is if someone offers him big wages and we can’t do that. He’ll stay in Spain where’s he’s at home and enjoys the culture and style of football.

Saying this though I still so believe Moyes is looking for a big signing. Someone who will cost the money but will produce the goods. I think this player will either be a winger or a striker.

Not "world class" because lets be honest this calibre of player will not join us but it will be a quality player. I think Yakubu’s signing proved that if you spend the money you get the player.

People might say the big player will be a centre midfielder but I don’t think so. In think Moyes has set his sights on Manuel Fernandes, Steve Sidwell and Michael Bradley as his centre midfielders. I would expect alteast two of them to join us. I’d prefer Bradley and Fernandes in all honesty.

People have mentioned Arshavin as our next centre midfielder but I advise them to watch him because he is by no means a centre midfielder nor would he ever ply his trade in that position in England. He’s be bullied in the middle. If he’s got a future in England its as a striker or a winger.

Quality player; however, I seem to remember watching a video similar to this with Inter Milan superstar Andy van der Meyde in it!!

We can only hope...

Sid Lowe was asked about this during The Guardian?s Football Weekly podcast about a week ago.

For what it?s worth his verdict was not incredibly likely, but not out of the question.

We?ll have to wait (and wait) and see ? no question it would set the pulse racing were he to join, though.

I gave up reading the tea leaves when I went on to tea bags, but my powers of predicting the future remain about the same - zilch, or in this case, nada (pron. natha).

I think that Fernandes is still in the frame because he was mentioned on the OS very recently ? if he was already on his way this would not have happened. I can only suspect that DM would see Bradley as a real candidate for the up-and-down central midfield role ? and Tim Howard could help if he did. Sidwell? Who knows?

I go along with Connor about Arshavin ? wonderful player, but not perhaps in the role that we need the most. And maybe ditto for Joaquin ? but it would be great fun to find out.

ps Rob ? its hwa-keen. The stress is all on the ?een? at the end which means you can?t stress the front of the word as well.

When Chelski were linked with him back in ?04, he had this to say..."I?ve heard the offer is very big and I know Chelsea are a very big club but for me money was never the issue. Football is the only issue for me. My friend [Arsenal?s Jose] Reyes tells me good things about English football.?

. Also, his response to Scum interests..."?I have always loved Manchester United but personally the main club of the last two seasons has been Chelsea." Would suprise me if we did snap him up but Moyes will need to break the bank to do so.

11   Posted 18/05/2008 at 15:52:24

All the links with various players up to now are very much speculation. Moyes may have made enquiries about some of them, but that means nothing. It’s only now, now that Moyes has had his meeting with Kenwright, that we can expect to see Everton firming up their interest in certain players. Whatever our budget, the price will have to be right before Everton will put their money on the table. Joaquin would be a great signing, but if it requires silly money then it won’t happen.

Rob Jones ? you are on the right track. When I lived in Spain there were plenty of blokes called Joaquin. They pronounce it more like Wackeen ? so he could be a scouser. "A?rite der Wack"?

He isn?t coming though, is he?

I wrote that article but quite frankly News Of The World doesn’t do it for me.

The lad has an arsenal of skills and it would be a masterstroke and a pinch at £11m.

Is that the same bloke? I counted about nine different shirts.

Still, I suppose we might just squeeze him in somewhere.

Guillem Balague was talking about Joaquin moving to Everton recently on the Spanish Footy show on Sky Sports.

Said it was a big possibility, Guillem is normally on the ball.

This is a Joaquin who has been steadily in decline since he went to Valencia, so much so that he has been omitted from Spain's 23-man squad for Euro 2008.

I didn?t know much about Joaquin so I watched the video supplied by someone in another thread... and I think its safe to say that if we signed this guy I?d literally cum in may pants! The guy has some seriously silky skills!!!

Adam Hunter, I?m not too concerned if he hasn?t quite cut the mustard at Valencia as they?ve been shite this season and Moyes has a canny habit of getting the best out of players. I seriously hope we sign this guy!!!

I have just watched the video, and all I can say is ?AS IF?

It's nice to see we are being linked with players of his quality but never in a month of Sundays will he be playing for us if avaliable. Surely there are Champions League teams after his signing with bigger wallets.

21   Posted 18/05/2008 at 19:56:11

I can’t see him doing the tracking up and down the flanks that Moyes likes his midfielders to do. Moyes places greater emphasis on graft than skill, we’ll probably end up with Stuart Downing or someone like that...

Joaquin sure looks a class act and even if we don?t sign him, he is the type of player that we?re crying out, for so I?m pleased Moyes is thinking along those lines. Anyone who can make Ashley Cole look as stupid as he did in a couple of those clips (apart from Ashley Cole himself), would be a very welcome addition to our right wing!

More realistically maybe... one post a while back mentioned the boy Ramsay at Cardiff calling him "absolute class". After watching his eye-catching if all too brief appearance in the FA Cup Final, which simply lit up what was otherwise a pretty dull game, I think DM should snap him up!

?This player makes Christiano Ronaldo look slow and clumsy?

Whats going on here?? To be fair to Joaquin, he is a good player who has had a bad couple of years, but I suppose you dont become a bad player overnight, but if you watch the Spanish footie anytime Valencia are on he has been sluggish, low on confidence & one of the quiet/poorer players in a poor Valencia team.

Obviously I believe that if we could get him & Moyes got him going & he had a good pre-season then we could get the best outta him, but I wouldnt pay over £8/9 million for him & I would consider that taking a chance with our funds the way they are. If he doesnt come i wont lose sleep, 5 years ago maybe but now???

If you had to pick between him for supposedly £11m & Arshavin for (again supposedly) £7m then I would pick the Russian everytime.

ps: I hope the Ronaldo comment at the top was tongue in cheek or I fear for my sanity!!!

I?m not so sure about this potential signing...

I?ve watched Joaquin for the past few years while he was playing for Betis and Valencia. I would fear this would be an Andy van der Meyde signing all over again.

The lad has great pace and skill, but his attitude is the thing that would worry me. He?s not a Moyes type player at all. If things aren?t going his way, he drifts out of games.... Tends to get lazy if he isn?t involved and he doesn?t like getting kicked....

I can see him coming to the Premier League and being a marked man by every team to rough him up and not let him play. Another Morientes I think. Great in Spain... Just couldn?t hack the physicality in England.

If he does come, I hope to God that he proves me wrong, but that is what his past is telling me anyway.
Dan Nadley
34   Posted 19/05/2008 at 11:17:27

Since joining Valenica he has looked fat and out of form ? no go for £11 million. He was brilliant for Betis but compared to Arshavin he is second rate.

Well I think we can be certain that a midfielder or three will be our priority this summer as I'm just reading Lee Carsley has been released. He wants to move back closer to the Midlands.
Nick Xenos
36   Posted 19/05/2008 at 10:52:49

Damian, who likes getting kicked around anyway? If you look at the top wingers in the Premier League, ie. Ronaldo, Bentley, Wright-Phillips, Walcott..they are all slight in frame and at first sight, wouldn’t look as if they could handle the physical stuff that is thrown at them week in week out....but they do. I don’t know why the majority of players that ply their trade from the Continent are labeled as weak, lazy, and fragile. The same was said about Fernandes too, and now the majority want him signed on a permanent deal! I’m sure if Joaquin is good enough and willing to play in this league (which he has admitted to in past interviews), then he should adapt to the physical aspect no problem.

Who put the ball in the red shites net, who put the ball in the red shites net.....Super Lee Carsley.

Just read that Cars has decided not to take up the offer of another year to be closer to his family in the midlands. I for one hope he ends up at West Brom so we can show him how much we appreciated him next season. Never a top player but his experience & ability to fill that holding role has been instrumental to us last couple of years. Shown when he was injured in 2006, we didnt half miss him!!

So good luck to a top, top fella. Super Lee Carsley!!
Connor Rohrer
38   Posted 19/05/2008 at 12:13:59

Nick Xenos, Fernandes isn’t weak though. He may not like a tackle but he has good upper body strength as he showed last season.

I agree though about Joaquin. I think he could make it in England. Not at Everton like because I don’t think the rumours are true but at a Champions League club definatly. All he’d have to do is up his work rate and he’d be fine.

Oh an I’d like to say good luck to Lee Carsley. I’ve thought he’s been past it for a while now but you can’t doubt he’s had a good season nor can you doubt his contribution to Everton since he’s been here. A fantastic servant to this club.

I’d like to see Alou Diarra replace him to be honest. I mentioned Diarra last season and I think he’d be an excellent asset to us. A more mobile version of Hamann and at 6ft 3 offers the stature where looking for.
Paul Chisholm
39   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:18:35

Don’t get too carried away guys. Given our current financial position, it’s more likely to be Joachim (ex Villa winger) and not Joaquin that we are being linked with. Sorry to piss on your parade.
John Lloyd
40   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:27:22

Connor, do you mean Diarra from Pompey??

If so I dont wanna piss on your bonfire but he’s never 6ft 3, more 5ft 7/8. Good player but deffo not the physical stature Moyesey is after....

But if you dont mean him, apologies brother
Damian Scott
41   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:28:20

Re: Nick’s Xenos’ comment

My point was more that his reaction to getting kicked is to become distant and lazy... He won’t get stuck in for the cause.

All the players that you have mentioned are well adapted to the English game and are quite strong players and just get on with it.

Fernandes in comparison to Joaquin is a lot stronger physically/build wise. He can take a bit of rough and tumble, whereas I don’t think Joaquin could as much.
Connor Rohrer
42   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:34:17

John Lloyd, I meant Alou Diarra not Lassana Diarra. Alou was on Liverpool’s books a few years ago but never played. He’s grew into a good player over the past few years. A frech International and has just had a good season with Bordeaux.

He’s 6ft 3 aswell which is means he has the right stature we are looking for and lived on Merseyside for 3 years which is also a bonus.

I think we could be after him.
Andy Callan
43   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:45:24

No chance is there.....?!?!?!?

Anyway, even if we did sign him then we need FAR MORE than him to take us in to the top 4 and then further again.

Get real.
James Marshall
44   Posted 19/05/2008 at 13:51:24

Whether this is ’realistic’ or not isn’t really the point - its great to see that we’re considering this type of player and that to me is more important then whether we actually sign him at the moment.

We’ve gone from buying second rate older players, to being in the hunt for younger, and far more quality players these days - if you’re still not happy with our progress I would suggest you need to learn a little patience - not to mention respect for the job done by our management team, board and players in recent seasons.

If you’d prefer us to be going for Championship level players to develop them into Premier League stars then fine, but its not a sustainable way of progressing a team and thats a fact.

Forget Joaquin.........Lee Carsley has announced he is leaving.

I am really gutted to lose such a strong character and consumate professional from our ranks. Whoever we replace him with has got some boots to fill.

Good Luck for the future Lee, You will be sorely missed.

47   Posted 19/05/2008 at 14:55:05

I can only assume from the fact that Carsley has been released that Moyes DEFINITELY has someone in mind to replace him. But also that some kind of dialogue has taken place with another club and player becauise after the Fernandes fiasco of last summer Moyes won’t want his fingers burned twice!

Of course who that will be is anyones guess but I am liking a lot of the names mentioned!!!

Just a quick word to the people who say we’ve got no chance of signing him based on the skills on show on youtube...

Price tag aside, (If we can splurge for the Yak, we can splurge for him, surely, considering this campaign has been more successful than the last) am I the only one remembering being wowed (on youtube no less) by skills of a Mr S. Piennar not so long ago?
