This kid is supposed to be a cracking player - there's some good footage of him on Youtube that's worth a look, even if we're not supposed to be talking about this kind of..... speculation..... apparently DM has had dealing with his 'people' in the past so this could be a goer, even if only on some sort of loan-type deal.

I’d rather not spend 20 million on an unproven striker playing in the Russian league to be honest.
2 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:03:30
This would affect who else we should be looking at as its in midfield where our numbers are low.
3 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:12:04
Had a look at a few Youtube vids, looked him up on Wiki and he looks pretty good to me - tall, rangy, strong looking, seems to be able to score from anywhere, both feet, headers, takes penalties, scores from inside and outside the box - he’s only 21 and looks to have ’the lot’
Youtube him and watch some of the CSKA Moscow vids of him to see what I mean - he’s also been called up by Brazil which surely says something.

Moyes’ history of signing strikers is poor. Only Yakubu has been worthwhile. If the rumour is true then this has disaster written all over it.
You Tube only shows you extremely one sided highlights. This kid’s highlights look no better than Benjani’s or Bent’s.
I would hate to think that Agard is keeping this kid on the bench in a few years.

"Jô was then said to have a bust up with national team coach Dunga and has said he will not play for Brazil again, until Dunga steps down. However Dunga has stated that he will help in any form, writing letters or otherwise to the Home Office to ensure that Jô gets a work permit for his impending transfer to the lemsip factory."
7 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:28:50
It's stated that DM will have £20m to spend and I cant see him splashing it out on only one player when we need at least 3 midfielders.
8 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:31:11
9 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:37:34
He has the same agent as Fernandes who EFC seem to get on with.
10 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:34:39
We know what we need and £18 Million on this kid isn’t it.
What I would like to know is how did the Daily Mirror find out how much money we have to spend!?
"Conjecture and Speculation - the recipe of fools."
I’m staying away from this bullshit for a week. See you next Tuesday!
11 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:47:58
Incidently more speculation I know but have you seen the link for the hammers and AJ. @ £15m if theres the slightest shred of truth surely we would have to deal!
12 Posted 20/05/2008 at 14:42:18
He’s a quality player and if he’s really only 21 years old (I do not mean to suggest anything with that, just that I never realised the lad was so young) he has a great future ahead of him. he thing that I worry about the most is if he can adapt to life and football in England. On the other hand, he adapted to football in Russia pretty easy seeing his goal tally and general display. He might have some adaptive problems to the quicker and more physical playing style in England in the beginning, but given enough time and in a team that matches his playing style (passing game, not too much hoofballing please!) he’ll flourish.
Ben Brown, the lad is quick. Not lightning pace-Michael Owen in his good days-like but he will outrun 90% of our players in our current squad in a short sprint.

Anyway, I started taking an interest in this guy after we were linked with Wagner Love last summer. Put it this way, Jo can score with either foot and basically from anywhere in or around the box. For a tall fellow he can also score with his head and dribble at speed. If we were to get him on loan we would have to buy him before in ended as his head would be turned by a major club.
Milan, Man City and Chelsea have been rumoured to be watching him though we apparently have had scouts there since January. Someone asked about where he appeared from, well he was with one of the largest clubs in Brazil (corinthians) when MSI sent a bunch of players there such as Tevez and Mascherano. He had a falling out with Dunga which is why he is now not a world famous household name.
Trust me, if we got him on a Fernandes type loan (and of course Fernandes too!) we would spend 20mil on him next summer--knowing we could flog him for 30mil !
Tim Vickery commented on how ace he is on the bbc web page a couple of months ago--I agree 100%.

16 Posted 20/05/2008 at 15:41:18
I have never really heard of him and the only way I think Moyes would contemplate signing him is the fact that he is 21 and would have a good sell on price in a few years if he turned out a player but for that price I think it would be a really risky signing on a relative unknown.
I would rather we tried the patients of someone like Tottenham for Robbie Keane or maybe Portsmouth for Defoe.
We have to convince players that Everton is the club to join but I honestly cant see this coming off unless we have £100 million to spend
17 Posted 20/05/2008 at 15:48:58
18 Posted 20/05/2008 at 15:56:21
Jo would be an investment even on a loan deal as it would ensure Yakubu isn't double marked.
19 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:07:28
Nobody has said that DM will spend £18m on one player, the likelihood is that it’ll be a loan deal if anything Michael. To say this is ’silly’ is....well.....silly!
Jo would be a great signing, and like I said earlier in the thread, as reiterated by Mark just now - the guy can score with both feet, his head, in or outside the box, has pace, is tall and strong - he has an awful lot to offer - great touch, cracking finisher with a great all round game from what I can tell. 30 goals from 52 games sounds bloody good to me.
20 Posted 20/05/2008 at 15:56:18
If we have only £20 million to spend we are in deep deep trouble. We need to sign a defender a goalkeeper possibly a right back and 5 midfielders, maybe get rid of johnson if the hammers are in for him and sign a new striker of quality.
We should have at least £30 million for Moyes to spend AT LEAST with a increased wage budget that was not full anyway due to of the size of our squad. If this money is not here where the fuck is it? I for one want to know where it has gone and whom is responsble for losing it so I can beat them up! Ha ha.
21 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:12:02
I very much hope we get Jo-inho in on loan and splash on Manny.
22 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:21:17
As for this Brazilian, looks alot like Adebayor. Scores a lot with his head and most of his goals are down to good positioning.
23 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:05:27
However, I think the only way we are going to get him is if we do manage to offload, say, AJ for £15m. I certainly think Jo for £3m + AJ would be a superb bit of business. AJ hasn’t really set the world alight in the last couple of seasons, not by a long stretch. He suits the level we’re at now, but he’s not the kind of player (IMO) that will help us break into the top 4.

25 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:30:00
Transfer rumours are great - I love them and agree with Stuart that its all part of the fun of the summer without football (barring Euro/World Cups), never understood why people complain about them either (barring Micheal's comments up top)
26 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:29:25
I think this one seems the most exciting... however ,as with the likes of Lucho Gonzales it's most likely bullshit. Still if we managed to get him it would be amazing!
27 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:34:46
to Joaquin for £11m and now Jo for £18m.
By the end of the week we will be signing Messi for £55m having been linked with Kaka and Drogba along the way.
When they’ve signed then we can start creaming - or not - as the case may be.
28 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:44:03
29 Posted 20/05/2008 at 16:48:20
At least we do if we’re realists!
30 Posted 20/05/2008 at 17:12:13
On the Manny score, anybody know if he is owened wholly by Valencia now?
31 Posted 20/05/2008 at 17:11:48
A- Buy him
B- Loan him
C- Have no clue.
MSI have had relations with Moyes and forwards are generally more costly than midfielders. Fernandes was worth £12mil so it is plausible that Jo would be £18mil if Tevez and Mascherano are the same fee.
Of course MSI will want him out on loan so they can make a huge profit if we sign him or someone else gets him in a year.
Imagine loaning Fernandes and Jo being just the same as West Ham with Masch and Tevez.

I think its a great way to get an impression of a player we may never have seen before.
And I am sure Moyes uses more advanced scouting techniques, before you start on anything else.

38 Posted 20/05/2008 at 19:40:30
Why would David Moyes pay £18 million for someone in a position we don't really need to spend money on. The midfield has to be the priority this summer as we only have four midfielders in the squad at present. I would like to see manny bought, one defensive mid, and a good left winger minimum (not Downing).
Then I would also look too sell AJ as I don't think he is up too it at Everton... then look to bring someone in but still not at £18 million...
Also, buying some young talent would be good... I think Bradley would really go well in our midfield.

40 Posted 20/05/2008 at 20:13:09
Seriously doubt Moyes will take a punt on a striker outside of the Premier League or one of the bigger European Leagues... not with funds apparently around the £20M mark. It doesn't make sense. Just because he's played for Brazil doesn't mean he's a class act..
Also I'm sure he's "part" owned by them who had Tevez at WHU... which would surely throw some kink in the works. Let's sign a playmaker!! and a Lee Cars replacement ?Alou Diarra... if he wasn't good enough for the shite... hes not good enough for us in my eyes.
41 Posted 20/05/2008 at 20:32:30
But his name is no Jo, it’s James.
James Vaughan. This lad HAS got it all and I just hope he’s fit enough to prove it next season.
42 Posted 20/05/2008 at 20:37:54
I wouldn't sell Johnson... His goals record reads 22 from just over 50 appearances so if he can get confidence back next season and get a a bit of luck with injuries then I see no reason why he can't get into double figures again. I would hate to see him join West Ham and do the business for them and the other thing we will miss badly if we sell him is the pace and workrate. Yes we have to have strikers who score goals but someone has to do the dirty work also.
Does this Jo have pace? What are his strengths? I honestly have never seen him play before but it seems Moyes has a few times.

Hi all I meant to put this up about Huddlestone & Hennessey on Thursday but my internet was fucked up so here it is. I went to watch the Wales u21s vs England U21s match in the hope that Rodwell or Kissock might be playing; unfortunately they weren’t so I turned my attention to Huddlestone and Hennessey and avoiding the skills of Agbonlahor and Walcott doing fuck all.
Huddlestone was decent, played a few key passes and the Big man hit the first goal of the game in a well taken penalty. Throughout the game, however, he made some fairly bad tackles and at times looked mediocre at best especially in the first half. Personal Rating = 6.5/10
Hennessey - Was kept fairly busy throughout the match only being beaten by Huddlestone’s peg and Walcotts goal which he can’t really be blamed for. He looked like a good player for most of the match and kept focused despite not being challenged through the first half. Personal Rating = 7/10
Verdict: Both would be decent signings as back up and for the future but neither would get past Howard or from what I’ve seen Michael Bradley if we sign him. Hope this helps, obviously I can’t judge them on one game but I’ve seen them on several occasions on TV and they look like good prospects for the future.
46 Posted 20/05/2008 at 21:43:39
Danny G, the shite are better than us so really that statement is wrong. You obviously haven’t seen him play. He’s far better than Carsley ever was.
He was let go by Liverpool because he had two quality midfielders infront of him in Hamann and Steven Gerrard and Houllier left.
Diarra would be a good signing for us. Strong, almost viera like figure with decent distribution.

Maybe the lad has vastly improved at Swansea or always was a better player who couldn’t get his full potential out amidst very poor colleagues at Den Haag, but for the Bodde I have in mind I think there are dozens of his type of footballer in the lower leagues in England. I’m not too excited about this link. Maybe as a squad player.
51 Posted 21/05/2008 at 10:00:07
Whilst in the background we will more likely pick unknown untalented hardworking unpolished ’gems’ from the lower division, at cut prices of 3m for half a dozen. And if that’s too exciting for some, we’ll take another batch on loan instead in accordance to our probation policy at NSNO Ltd.

53 Posted 21/05/2008 at 16:19:11
I’d take a shit hot 21 year old brazilian talent from Russia any day over the 2 players you mentioned... even if its just for the excitement and romance of having some unknown hotshot Brazilian from Russia joining us for £18mill. How could you even begin to get excited about Ashton or Crouch?
54 Posted 22/05/2008 at 08:57:38
Anyway, I have been reading all the posts in this thread and I have to say I agree with Andy Hudson. Jo, this 21 year old from brazil is amazing. I have seen him play, and hes would be a huge sign for Everton. Like Andy stated, he can score with both feet and because he's so tall, he is also very good at scoring goals with his head. Not only that, but he is a well built guy so he won't be taken out easly and he is very quick. Trust me, he is quick when he needs to be. I agree that £18M is a lot for a striker that most of us has never heard of, but if you think about it everyone started out being unknown at some point.
The key reason why Everton is going shopping is because we want to get in the top 4. If you look at our season that just finished, we had a lot of matches that ended up with a draw. We had many good chances to win a lot of these drawn matches, but our forwards/strikers could not get the ball into the net. if we were to get Jo for £18M, I do believe that we won't have so many draws this upcoming season.
We need a striker, and a class striker at that. So I say we get him, not that my vote counts. but I think I bring a valid point. Besides, if we can sell AJ for £10M as well as getting Jo from Moscow, we are well on our way to getting in the top 4. That would mean that we had £20m starting off, got £10m for AJ, bought Jo for £18m and we are still sitting there with £12m that we could spend on midfielders. In my book, that would amazing!
You also have to remember that Wayne Rooney got us £1m for winning the PL and CL.
