Russian signings

Comments (51)

Very bizarre little story. I used to work with a Russian girl in Tokyo whose Dad was a top level banker in Moscow so gets the VIP tickets etc.

I e.mailed her on the total off chance whether she had any clue on these 'Jo' and Arshavin rumours and I got the following;

"Seems like your team are getting two Russians -- Arshavin/Zhirkov. Also just read on somerrussian websites that you want 3 brazilians from CSKA Moskva". (Imagine that is JO/Dudu/Love??)

Anyway I asked her if she had any first hand news on Arshavin and Zhirkov etc -- she mailed back saying her father said next week looks like there maybe a transfer to the Premier League for Arshavin and Zhirkov is on his way too.

Thats all folks -- could be us/City or whoever but seems like we are in the mix for next week. Never heard of Zhirkov but he looks ace on youtube :)

I love these " I once knew a Russian girl in Tokyo whose dad claims that his cousins heard a rumour that we´re signing x x and x....." posts. We can all dream, mark. I´m a dreamer too, and I´ve got high hopes for next season and am desperate to see who Moyes will bring in therefore this kind of speculation is irritating. Moyes only has a kitty of 20 million and Jo is apparenty 18 million. so Arshavin for 250, 000? Wake up and smell the roses!

Yeah, probably a load of rubbish. Thing is that her dad is a huge football fan plus was one of the decision makers at one of the major russian banks (chairman or MD) so as you can imagine the bastard has alot of contacts --so I asked her to ask him and thats what she got on the russians.

Brazilians it looks like she just googled some russian sites!

Dudu info (yes I'm bored): 25 used to play in Japan (I've never heard of him after being there 4 years!) and Rennes before moving to CSKA 3 years ago. Was in 04 Brazil Copa America winning team.

Tim Vickery says:- Following the 2003 World Youth Cup win, the elegant Dudu Cearense was seen as the potential solution. He was taken to the 2004 Copa America, when it was evident that he was not yet ready. A career bouncing around Japan, France and now Russia has not helped, and he did himself few favours with an uncertain display against Wales

Like Carlos Alberto Parreira before him, coach Dunga gave every chance to Dudu Cearense (CSKA Moscow), an elegant passer who, it seems, is not comfortable playing so deep.

The sad fact is that Brazilian football is no longer producing this kind of player, which explains national team coach Dunga?s prolonged experiment with Dudu Cearense deeper than the more attacking midfield role he fills for CSKA Moscow.

Apparently he also said on 5live's World Football show that Dudu was desperate to join us (so says a guy in kipper).

So bored today xxx

I know a Japanese girl who works in Russia and she told me Riquelme?s coming. I didn?t believe her but she reckons she can seal the deal with a happy ending. Our midfield is looking unreal!!!

My cousins social worker is the fella who used to work the dozzer puppet on Fraggle Rock.

Now he was great mates in the 80s with Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog. It seems that Spit the Dog went for one of his big phlems in conversation one night in 1989 whilst they were out at their local Yates Wine Lodge and it sounded just like, "Everton to sign Deco".

Could just be a rumour, but you never know????

Calm down Mark. All just good natured banter ;-)

I think you should definately be crowned king of the rumour though. You’re all over the mail bag recently when it comes to transfers.

Are you Kenwright in disguise trying to lead us all down blind alleys?:-)

Dont worry lads not taking anything personally.... just bored out of my head.

Had a really weird day if you?re interested which started off with a trip to the dentists -- telling me I needed root canal on a loose tooth (footie injury last Monday). Had 2 job interviews this afternoon so bombed it back home only to find that the room where my girlfriend has decided to put my work clothes yesterday (don?t ask -- women always move crap around) has locked itself from the inside.

As its a new condo I spent hours trying to find a key for the door -- which didn't exist and now need a) the key b) the clothes c) the job interview.

Welcome to Mark's world :(

By the way the best rumour I?ve heard so far is this;

A guys dad is a policemen who arrested a bunch of Latvians as illegal immigrants. They couldn?t speak English so had an interpreter present. After a while the copper starts chatting with the interpreter who says that Liverpool hire her to translate for Skrtel and Voronin and she will work for Everton in a couple of months to translate for Arshavin.

-- 2 problems, Skrtel and Voronin are from different countries and more importantly Latvia is part of the EU so they would not be illegal immigrants.

Mike - Good post it had me choking on me cornflakes with laughter, almost as much as when that red headed shite headed in his own net a few weeks back - well maybe not that much !
Mark - Keep up the rumours lad, its keeping my entertained & if we only got one of these I’d be made up.
Word on warning though, avoid root canal work. It costs loads & never works just get it pulled & spend the money saved on ale, Japaneese girls or whatever !!!

Great speculation but the fact remains any European club with players in the Euro 2008 will wait to see what kind of Championship they have before talking transfer fees.

Just look at the previous World/Euro Cups as to how it drives the prices up. Clubs would have to be mad to sell before a ball is kicked in anger at the Euros

Look, the Jo thing is way more likely to be a loan deal - he’s owned by the same people who owned Tevez/Mascherano/Manny et al, and for them they want their players out on loan so that they can make more money - nobody ever said we’d splash out £18m on Jo.

Mark Cassin - a good post - if one of these rumours work out we will end up with a good signing. Of course hope it?s Arshavin!!! But I have made a note to look out for the Russian team during Euro 2008 - any team with Gus Hiddink in charge will have more than a few players worth watching.

Just wondering if much transfer business, in general, will be done before the Euros. Given that we badly need a few players, that could make things a bit tight for us.

I think Moyes is scouting France and Russia. Two good leagues to have a look at in my opinion. Some gems out there, don?t get paid big wages and a lot of players would come for reasonable prices.

I?m happy that where expanding out network looking for a higher calibre of player.

Just heard that Dudu has landed in John Lennon Airport and is on the way to Goodison hooked up with a local tart. Turns out her fella was at a job interview so they headed back to his place only he arrives back early looking for his work clothas, so they had to lock the door from the inside. So the whole transfer is now in the balance.

Speaking of rich Russians, has anyone mentioned yet that it was confirmed yesterday that Abramovich’s £578m is a loan, and not a gift as has been thought. Its interest free, but it is repayable. If he wants his money back for any reason, Chelsea Limited have got 18 months to repay.

Re. the Abramovich loan (of over 1 billion US Dollars!) perhaps he is planning on selling the club for a big amount in future, if he achieves their objective of being the biggest club in the world by 2014, thereby getting his cash back? Ambitious aim that though and I can imagine him getting bored with the train set afore then, at great risk to the nouveaux riche West Londoners.
Maybe then our prudent stewardship will mean we get some firesale bargains from Stamford Bridge?
Ever the optimist hey!

The Abramovich loan thing isn’t news - the only reason people havent relaised this before is that Peter Kenyon’s ’spin’ has been in effect. He stated ages ago that Chelsea had ’no external debt’ which is still true because Ambramovich’s loan is in effect an internal debt.

Man Utd are in the same situation with the Glazers saddling them with over £600m of debt - personally I’d rather be in our position of owing less money because long term its much more sustainable.....as long as our revenue improves via succes on the pitch/ground move etc etc........a mass debate will now surely ensue.

Can I just say that the so called dodgy 3rd party ownership thing doesn?t appear to have hampered Man Utd where Tevez is concerned ? he?s owned by the same people and theres been no issue with him since Utd took him; the only issue was with West Ham.

It's nothing new, it's just not been as high profile until West ham cocked it up.

James, just a small point: the Chelsea debt is internal but that is not the same as the Glazier/Man Utd debt, which is external, is it not? This is the only way to explain the debt burdens listed (or not listed) in that recent table of club valuations.

When you read it it opens up the story from the Daily Post that we are interested in Jonas Olsson.
Of course there is a disclaimer on there saying that any views are not that of the club.....blah blah blah, but I can never ever remember this happening before.
I think this is a way of saying we are heavily involved in trying to sign this guy without actually having to take responsibility for it if it falls flat on its arse.

Heavily linked in Turkey with Arda Turan.... 21-year-old winger from Galatasaray ? on ToffeeWeb rumours and on other sites it says that we are the only club to have bid for him and he will meet us soon. Price is £10mil ? Keegan heavily linked but as yet no bid though of course Emre plays there which may attract him.

Ah the end of the season.

Anyway for the first time ever I have a my mate told me story... And seen as it the time of year I thought I would throw it in.

Last week about the same time as the Gera rumours I was speaking to a mate on his way to watch Cardiff play in the FA Cup final, and he ’congratulated’ me on Everton being about to sign Joe Ledley.. To which I told him to shut up and I would chat it over when it was official.

Anyway, one for the rumour mill, and well, the BBC has it at the end of this article too..
