The Mail Bag

Not in the Rumour Mill

Our speculation fun often seems to have every living footballer making a move to Goodison.

When was the last time we didn't know about a buy until it was announced? Which buy was the biggest surprise?

Can't remember if there were rumours before we got Kanchelskis but if there were, I was still shocked and over the moon when he signed...

The last biggest surprise was our last signing, Anthony Gardner. Not even a whisper beforehand.

For genuine transfers that actually happen, I think the pattern is that we hear about them from a reliable source perhaps a day or two before the interest is confirmed by the club, and they usually go on to sign, picture on the back page of the Echo, etc. My sense is that very few of those have been linked to us earlier in the process by the various strange internet sources that appear in our Rumour Mill.

Just count up how many players we are supposed to be signing this summer. And the transfer window hasn't even opened yet! If they link enough players to us, they are bound to get one or two right in the end...

Tom, I remember the Kanchelskis transfer dragging on for weeks over a payment of a proportion of the transfer fee to his former Russian club, Shaktar Donetsk ( I think). Eventually, the Man Utd representative had to fly to Russia to sort it out, but it was a real off one day on the next type scenario. All for a one season wonder!

I seem to recall being somewhat surprised when we signed Gazza, and then Ginola. But that’s not what we are talking about, is it.

Yup, The Kanch dragged on forever and Arteta was out the blue. I was so please, all I knew is that he played for Rangers, but I knew we would miss out on 4th without a Gravesen replacement.

But from memory, it was the Martyn, Jeffers, Kilbane, McFadden swoop which caught everyone by surprise back in ’03.
Martyn is arguably DM’s best buy.

Galatasary manager has said he has received a £10million bid for Turan Arda from Everton. He says there is interest from the premier league but Everton are the only team to put a bid in.

The player himself is upset that the club have been speaking to the press about selling him as he didn’t know anything about it.

Could be one to watch.

@Colin Wadsworth, Not sure about Valencia from Wigan, EFC seem to be linked with Valencia from Spain............ the whole fucking team!
On a serious note, though, the Valencia from Wigan would be a good asset.

He claims the bulk of the names on the list consists of strikers, ?midfield generals?, right backs and a left wingers, giving names of Marseille?s Albanian skipper Lorik Cana, CSKA?s Brazilian striker Jo, Zenit St Petersburgs Andrei Arshavin and Cardiff Citys Aaron Ramsey as just some of David Moyes transfer targets.

Does anyone have any idea about Fernandes? It's a bit worrying, the season is over a month ago, and all we have from the official site is about new grass, and yet more articles about Lee Carsley!
