Keeping the purse strings tight

Comments (14)

Take a look at www.thestage.co.uk for a VERY interesting feature under 'NEWS' - Equity targets Kenwright as "worst payer"...

Could the comments explain why: (1) Moyes has not put pen to paper? (2) some of our transfer bids are rejected, eg, Owen? (3) Potential investors walk away?

The article confirms what a friend of mine who is a small operator in the entertainment business has said for a long time but which I have not previously written about as it was only hearsay.

Oh no... just when we were all trying to be so positive after such a wonderful season, and looking forward with unbridled excitement to being taken over by a moneybags Russian oligarch, moving to a fantastic new stadium, and signing 24 great new players. John, now you've ruined everything!

ps: Luv that picture of the bloke with the shirt... If Ian Ross sees that, I feel some threat of legal action will be imminent...

Nice reposte by BK’s representative though, seems like sound bite bollocks to me and not relevant to EFC:
I think our players and manager are adequately compensated and somewhat above the national minimum wage!

John

Looks like you?ve only read the headline and first couple of paragraphs, and missed the lengthy reply from Julius Green (cracking name, by the way!) denouncing this assertion as slander.

Is this the same Bill Kenwright whose club pays some of the Everton players £30/40k per week?

Sounds like good business practice to me (why pay more than you have to??), and as long as Everton can afford to pay its players what is needed to get them to come/stay, who gives a flying fuck about what he pays his actors??

As an actor I?m always happy to see Equity attempt to get more pay for us. However, let?s be fair to Bill here. He operates in a highly unpredictable industry where show after show goes bust and has to close weeks, sometimes months, earlier than expected. You just have to look at the figure they quote in the article to see that! 10% make a profit!!! It?s no surprise that he tries to keep costs low. Also, he does pay the rate agreed by our union so technically he is well within his rights to do so. Why would anyone in their right mind risk more money?

As for your attempt to relate this to Everton? I?d argue that if he was so strapped for cash, he wouldn?t exactly push investors away, nor would he break our transfer record 2 years in a row.

The two are completely different markets. One is highly risky whilst the other, with lots of credit going to DM and the players, is comparatively a hell of a lot more stable. One he can?t risk investing too much in, the other he can do to a certain extent. They just don?t compare the way you are making out.

None of us have a clue what?s going on in Bill's varied investments anyway!! So let?s not make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Don?t you just love conspiracy theories!!!

Everton have apprentalty put a bid in for Michael Johnson of Man City! Who, like Jags, was on the Everton Academy books 'til he was 15/16!

Typical!!!

John, this has nothing to do with Everton, and I will give you a reason why we did not get Owen: how about a ridiculous £120 grand aweek what he gets, he?s not worth £50 grand.

I have the feeling that if this was pro Kenwright then it would have not been added here.

This article is a week old (i’m not even going to click the link to confirm) and is just a blatently sladerous attack. What relevance does this have to everton as a company?

Anyway I hope Kenwright sues the guy

Don?t those ungrateful actor?s realise Bill is working 24/7, looking for investment, so he can pay them more? Not!
Also, some of you lad?s want to fucking lighten up! Instead of jumping on your high horse?s, when someone make?s a tongue-in-cheek comment about the bullshitter.

Peter Dancer, is that why he refused to up the pay of the actor playing Mickey Johnson in Blood Brothers ? a show that pays handsomely and has done for decades. The actor wanted a £50 rise after appearing in the role for 2 years (to take his wage up to £400 pw ? a disgrace for a West End lead. Kenwright refused and the lad left. On the same weekend Kenwright lost $70k on the tables in Las Vegas and wired his London office for extra funds.

The man is a gobshite of the highest order. In your desperation for a job, please don?t defend him. Equity are absolutely correct and Kenwright has no respect for anyone in your business except ?Stars?.

And the fact that the bloke spouting off is up for re-election soon has nothing to do with him opening his mouth at all honest!

You guys make me laugh you really do. I know Bill isn’t perfect but really can’t you find anything better to have a go at him with!

Surley the less money the actors get the more Bill has so the more goes into EFC pocket - You should be pleased !

As already said, what has this got to do with EvertonFC?

Answer - absolutely nothing. As the actor above stated, Kenwright is paying the minimum wage but it is not illegal so it’s a shoddy piece of cheap journalism having a go on a slow news day.

There will always be am employer who is the lowest payer, yet people will still work for them.

Why post it on a football forum when the employee’s under Kenwright are uaually earning more in a week that most people earn in a year?

Michael Hunt - you say "Nice reposte by BK?s representative though"

Er...why?

It’s hardly Oscar Wilde.

All he basically says is we pay the absolute minimum coz we legally can.

Bill still comes out looking like a mingebag (nb: not that I particularly give a shite - anyone getting £300 a week for dressing up and ’playing pretend’ is getting more than enough...probably)

Don’t worry boys, I’ve heard on the grapevine that BK is working on a big new show "Tony Marsh The Musical".
