There is a lot of talk about Everton legends but where is ? In your list he never gets a mention, so could you shed some light on what he is up to now?

Do we have a list? I have no iidea what he's up to. Check back through your old copies of the Evertonian or the Matchday programme... I used to be arsed but it's enough nowadays keeping track of the current crop. People tell us we can no longer live in the '80s... time to move on, Tony!

Tony, Alan Whittle, still attends all home games. Like a lot of former players, he has not lost touch, with the Blues.

I done the marquee package for the Portsmouth home game this season and Alan was the legend attending that day... What a lovely gentleman! He took the time to sit at everyone?s table and chat. Alan played in the first ever game I attended at Goodison and scored twice in a 2 - 2 draw v Arsenal , he rememered details of the game and the fact that he beat Bob Wilson from outside the area which was unusual for Alan. So yes, Alan is doing alright and still watching the blues but the mane of blonde hair is no more as he makes a point of telling you!

I met him once , in 1970, at the local newsagent... ended up with a signed photo by John Hurst of the 1969-70 Championship winning team. Whittle seemed like a nice bloke and I recall him leaving too early but going on to do well at Crystal Palace

There are many iconic Everton images tattooed in my brain.

Top three?

1) Alan Ball -Red hair, Blue shirt, white shorts, amber socks, white boots.

2) Alan Whittle - White hair, amber shirt, white shorts, white socks, muddy boots.

3) Bob Latchford. - Beard, blue shirt. blue shorts, blue socks, arms aloft.

I think I used to see him in St Margaret Mary?s Church....or maybe I was just day-dreaming.

It?s....all so..(looks wistfully at the clouds)... long ago (especially since I was in a church).

Alan Whittle works for the club. As an earlier poster said he was in the marquee....That’s his "regular" job and my understanding is that he’’s there every home game "working".
He’s a gentleman... as most of the ex players from that era are.

Alan Whittle gave me is autograph when I was a young boy watching the Blues homecoming when we lost to WBA. He was in the reserves & unknown. the rumour in the crowds was an blues reserve player was in the crowd & we all surrounded him. He took the time to sign many autographs & state how unlucky we were to lose 1-0 to WBA. I lost the autograph on the bus on the way home, & little did I know he would be a key figure in our championship run in breaking the record for concecutive goals scored in continuous league games. He was a nice guy & a short term Everton hero. His goals were the key factor to our championship win in 1969, I remember the one at Anfield in our 2-0 win with pride!

Alan Whittle attended a Legends Bash that we held last year in Port Sunlight. He was pretty "Elephants" by the time it was his turn to speak & Labby (God rest his soul) kept leaning forward & Smacking him on the head with a rolled up programme.

Alan Whittle and Everton Legends don?t exactly compute in my brain. I seem to remember him as a nearly player, maybe he was unfortunate to be in the side the same time as Ball and Harvey etc. But I remember one occasion when Ball failed to get on to the end of one of his crosses, and he made such a meal out of it that I thought..... ?and who the hell are you? to be throwing a tantrum at Ball?
Probably as you have all said .. nice gentleman... but sorry ? not a legend.

Without Alan Whittle’s goals we would not have won the Championship in 1970.

Legend? Probably not, but nevertheless an extremely important player for us that season.

Yes Albert, that’s how I recall those games. And wouldn’t it also be true to say that Roger Kenyon stepped up to give the back four some necessary steel when Brian was injured towards the end of the season? I can still recite the eleven (plus Harry) who won the title, but even then the ’squad’ turned out to be so important.

The goal he scored at Upton Park when we beat West Ham 1-0 is etched on my memory. Anyone else remember it? If I remember rightly it came after the infamous Sandy Brown o.g. at Goodison and meant we were back on track to win the title - which we duly did.
