Subs and Fixtures?

Comments (17)

Can anybody tell me what the substitute situation will be for the Premier next season? There has been a lot of talk about 'seven on the bench' but were the rules changed?

When will the Premier League fixtures for next season be announced..... next week?

Next season, Premier League teams will be alowed 7 subs on the bench but only allowed to use 3 of them, much like the European competitions.

And if Septic Bladder gets his way three of them will have to be transvestites in tight shorts and one will have to be legally declared dead......or something like that.

I believe an announcement was made at the end of the season - which Chris has correctly stated in that 7 subs will be allowed on the bench but only 3 can be used - as per the Uefa competitions.

Also, the fixtures will be announced on 16th June - so I?m reliably informed.

7 Subs! Bloody hell, there were times last season when we could barely name 5!

Still, at least we’ll get to see what the youth team look like and Andy VDM might actually get to watch the game from the bench?

Seven subs!

That’s more than the Royal Navy has. And one of them is crocked.

Didn’t it used to be two named subs and two subs it is? In the days when squads were about 16 players...

Yep that’s right 7 subs - fuckin ridiculous innit?

I don’t know why we don’t have a ten minute multi-ball at the start of each half as well.

On a slight;y different subject, WTF is the deal with the new kit, i went into JJB today and the manager said it is out 10th June, but he has no idea what it looks like, no pictures have been released??

Is that a bit odd considering it comes out in less than 2 weeks?

The 7 subs ruling came out at the same time as the announcement about the 39th PL game so was completely overshadowed. It’s basically designed to give the Big 4 even more of an advantage.
Firstly they can keep more big name stars happy at their clubs by putting them on the bench and secondly it obviously gives those clubs more options. Whilst Chelsea may have 7 Schevchenkos on the bench it will be interesting to see if all PL teams actually bother with 7 subs and if they do they may have to resort to plundering the youth teams in times of injuries.

Mike K - very good point.

Some of the Sky 4 have already shown the disaster that ’rotation’ is by trying to keep their overpaid stars interested. And this obviously suits the rich at the expense of the poor. (National sides, rich or poor, should be different). Perhaps we should really be watching out for the day when they say more than 3 subs.

I remember when there were no subs. Well not really, but I did watch that docu on Beeb 4 about the 57 cup final between Villa and Manu. McParland clobbered the Manu keeper in the face after 6 minutes, he didn’t know what planet he was on. Anyway no subs so when he eventually came around about they sent him back on to play outfield.
Ah them were the days.
