Solano anyone?

Comments (21)

Having missed out on Gera, I think Nolberto Solano would be another good option as cover at right midfield. Just been released by West Ham after 1 season, 33 years old, perhaps offer him a 1-year deal with option of a 2nd (like the Valente deal was originally). He's good from set pieces, and would be good cover for Arteta and co. We need to sign 3-4 midfielders in my opinion, so to pick up 1 on a free such as Solano would be a good start on our no doubt limited budget!

Thanks but no thanks. Having a squad is not just about having numbers. I’d much rather we sign a youngster instead who’ll learn from the experience or even giving an opportunity to someone from the academy.

To be honest I was thinking the same thing when I put the text on last night and saw he’d left West Ham.
I think Solano would do a good job and would be a useful aquisition to our squad and furthermore he already sadi he is only wanting two more seasons in England so a short term deal would suit everyone.
I can imagine people coming on here with the usual bullshit ’we should be going after Kaka, Moutinho,Ronaldo blah blah blah..
Here is what I say.. Yes we need outstanding quality talent but lets get real, we also need to build up a decent sized squad so if we do get out usual five or six key injuries all at the same time, we can fill in the gaps with Premiership experience.

It would be nice to sign players like Moutinho but the problem for Everton when bidding for any of these big names will be if one of the top four come in again because no matter what Moyes says to the player we all know there would be little hope of getting him.
Ideally we would get one or even two from Moutinho,Huddlestone,Diarra or Michael Johnson and at least two or three decent players who may not be regulars every week but can play a part.
I look at the size of our squad and there is just no way to me that we will be able to even make a sustained challenge on all fronts again.
We should be looking at wanting to have a real crack at the three cups we are in again and also we need another top five finish.
To do that we are simply going to need more players

Nigel just because a player is under 20 it doesnt mean he is definetly going to be or become a great player you know?
I think we already have enough young players in the squad and in the academy already without spending money on lads that are untried.
It seems to me every time we sign a teenager now that he is ’going to be the next big thing’.
It doesnt always work out like that.
We have already seen that witth Boyle and Vidarsson and Mark Hughes who was meant to be the next Dave Watson or something.
Solano would cost nothing other than wages and it s worth bearing in mind the impact that Gary McAllister made at Liverpool, when they signed him we all laughed at to why they wanted a 36 yr old.
Young players are our future yes but unless they are supremley talented lets not think that is all we ever need to buy from now on.

He wants to stay down South. The reason he left Newcastle was to be with his family in London. He wouldn’t join us for personal reasons.

I’d take him as backup yes because on his day he’s creative and has a good set piece but it won’t happen. I’d rather spend a bit of money on somone like Giles Barnes.

Just because he’s available on a free doesn’t mean we should sign him....why do you think West Ham got rid?

He’ll probably end up at one of the promoted clubs or at Fulham

Sod that - this club needs to go forward, not back.

Signing Solana would be a step in the wrong direction.

If he was any good the Hammers would have kept him...

To an extent I agree, we have to be realistic. Villa can’t keep hold of Barry as he wants to join the Sky Four. Outside the Sky 4 Spurs seem to be the next option. They all want to play in the champs league, sad thing is when we could offer champ league football no one (worthy) came here. No one will be leaving City, they will get stronger and as for Spurs, they are gonna/are doing speng millions.

I have a feeling, no hard facts just a feeling that Moyes has given BK an amount of money that he wants to give top four and Uefa cup a real push next season. If he is not given it I think he will walk. He is going to gamble with the money and if it pays off we will be where we believe we are entitled to be, at the top or challenging for it. No signigs or hard rumors yet as he has his list and has given the board a time frame to give him the money. Like I said just a feeling.

Not good enough for a middle of the table team but you think he’s good enough for us? Get real!

Just because someone’s free doesn’t mean they’re a decent signing.

The German goal scorer was a big midfielder and he would be worth taking a look at, and he is a regular goal scorer.

When a player leaves a club, it's not always about his quality. We are crying out for some natural width which Solano would add and he would be a very useful squad player and offer a different option. Also purely to be able to rest players like Areta who is clearly going to be carrying niggles and knocks again next season it would be a cheap and sensible option allowing money to be used elsewhere.

A couple of seasons ago I would have been happy to have him but now I?m not that keen. Most players that come with no transfer fee expect that fact to be considered when agreeing wages so he might not be as cheap as people think.

Just heard on Sky Sports news that John Hartson is expected to sign for Everton in the next 24 hours.

It’s a free signing. However the deal was sealed with a clause in his contract for 5 free McDonalds meals of his choce per week, with the option for a further 2 meals based on goals scored.

He is also permitted to kick one player of his choice in the head per month. My vote is for Andy Van der Meyde.

SolaNO THANKS!

I understand your thinking on this one, money?s tight and its a position we?d like to see covered during this summer's spending, but we have to be looking at least a little higher up the quality ladder than that.
