What Lies Beneath?

Comments (13)

I was chatting football with a Spanish colleague on the way to work this morning and he mentioned to me that he had seen a report on the ground move on Spanish TV. No mention of moving outside city boundaries, they seemed to think the biggest problem would be relocating the bodies buried under the pitch!

Admittedley I didn't see the report but he was adamant that there really are, and him being Spanish there wasn't much chance of a language problem. Is he right? Please tell me he's not as he also told me Barça had agreed a ?15M fee for everybody's favourite Russian this morning.

Dammit, I managed to get away with dumping bodies there for so long!

Certainly they used to allow people?s ashes to be scattered on the pitch until health and safety stepped in a few years ago.

I?m sure there was mention of someone being buried in the centre circle, but then that could of been a wind up.

Yes, Barca have made an enquiry about Arshavin this morning, but no transfer bid has been accepted.

I got told that a particularly special Everton legend had his ashes interred under the centre spot.

All around the edges of the pitch, almost every square inch in fact, are name plates dedicated to the fans whose ashes have either been interred there, or scattered on the pitch. They ran out of room several years ago. There are no bodies as such (although there’s a locomotive according to legend), just interred ashes.

It gives the term ’spiritual’ home even greaster reasonance and is further evidence why leaving it is a crime against Evertonians both past and present. In fairness Kenwright has accepted the point.

I allways thought there was a few buried behind the goals i would reckon its prob urns with ashes etc rather than coffins but every penny counts if we can sell grave plots under the pitch im up for it !!

Living in Ireland I don?t get to Goodison as often as I?d like, but I was at a stag in Liverpool towards the end of the season, we were playing away so the Old Lady was empty and I got chatting to a security guard.
Anyway he was a sound bloke and gave me a tour around and I got to walk onto the pitch, he was telling me, as I was standing on the pitch in awe, that the ashes of a former player were buried beneath the Gwladys St penalty spot. Can’t remember who he said it was right now though!!

Garry

I know Glen Keeley, Alan Biley, Back of the Echo, Biffa, Rod Bellfit, Joe Harper, Gary Stanley, Mark Pembridee and many many others too numerous to mention have died on their arses over the years at GP but I dont think we actually burried any of them

I cant believe that Barca will pay 15,000,000 for Anna Kournikova either

Ah, Joe Harper, Dave. Why’d you remind me? That early 70’s transfer dud started a roll that’s contined right through to Biffa.
