Tesco store inside the stadium?

Comments (17)

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the article in Accountancy Age that is highlighted on the Toffeeweb homepage. The paper copy of the article (and, in fact, the online copy before it was modified) contained a couple of mistakes which show the quality of the research involved.

The club's "exuberant chairman" was given as "Ben Kenwright" and Manuel Fernandes was said to have "recently signed after a loan spell".

Accountancy Age may have some inside information, I suppose...but I doubt it.

I thought much the same thing, David. About the only thing that has stayed consistent in the information about the stadium all this time, however, is that it’ll be located in Kirkby — every other detail seems to change like a wind heavy with the stench of bullshit, so anything is possible.

You’re such such sensationalists at Toffeeweb. Since when has Accounting Age been at the forefront of knowledge regarding anything relating to football? As has already been noted there were a couple of glaring errors in the article, and so it is without doubt an error by some uninterested journalist.

Why on earth you deem this necessary to be a headline on your mainpage I cannot understand, other than to stir up as much anti Kenwright/Wyness/Kirkby feeling as is possible. I think this website is rapidly obtaining a reputation for negativity, sensationalism and backwards thinking and it is well deserved.

Cue loads of abuse for being positive and not hating Blue Bill

Ted, I take your point about the headlining of the story but I refer you to my earlier comment. So many details have changed and so many surprises have sprung up about this stadium that I would defy anyone to be surprised if this Tesco-store-inside-the-stadium story turned out to be true.

It’s not a case of stirring up anti Kenwright/Wyness/Kirkby feeling because they’re doing a good enough job attracting criticism with this ill-conceived, poorly executed and, in my opinion, fundamentally flawed Kirkby project, on their own.

Lyndon,

Fair enough. That is your opinion, and whilst I disagree (only to the extent that there is no alternative and therefore I think we should all get together and support the project) that is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

As I said, I just feel that Toffeeweb has a responsibility to put across a much fairer view sometimes, especially on it’s mainpage.

But Ted, there are alternatives. Walton Hall Park and Sainsbury’s was an alternative that was kept under wraps around the time of the ballot. The Loop, while ambitious, problematic and *potentially* more expensive than Kirkby, was an alternative that was given short shrift by the Board.

And, lo and behold, if the Kirkby stadium fails, Keith Wyness and now Ian Ross have admitted that redeveloping Goodison would be Plan B. Not "staying at Goodison as-is", which was the line at the time of the vote, but "reconsidering" redevelopment.

I’m not against Kirkby because I’m intransigently anti-Kenwright and Wyness (although I’m getting that way as a direct result of the Kirkby calamity) but because I honestly feel it is wrong for Everton Football Club in every way. Before (assuming you believed thae line in the first place), you could argue that it made financial sense. Now even that isn’t even the case and it’s clear to me that phased redevelopment of Goodison Park is the best option going.

Ted,
As the article is about Everton’s proposed stadium, surely it is in the interest of Evertonians to read. As I would be unlikely to ever pick up a copy of Accountancy Age then I’m glad that the TW team have pointed me in the direction of it (albeit likely shoddy Journalism as pointed out by David Roscoe).

Surely as an independent Everton website TW should do this. Also as Everton fans themselves, the editorial team are perfectly entitled to put forward their own feelings on any subject... and of course up to us to discuss.

Surely if yo only want content which has a positive spin then simply look at the official site - but then you might get the impression that we’ve signed Riquelme.

It is very anti-Kirkby on this site, there is no doubt about that. As soon as you declare that you voted YES and share a view you are shot down very heavily. Is KEIOC administering this site I wonder?

Why dont we all cut the Kirkby talk and concentrate on how we’ll do this season instead. I just want to see Moyes given the green light to sign some class for the middle of the park.

Marcus Aurelius: Why dont we all cut the Kirkby talk and concentrate on how we?ll do this season instead.

Well, "Marcus", I would but we can?t strengthen the squad for next season until Kirkby is sorted out. I would love to stop talking about Kirkby. In fact I wish dear Hazel would announce right now that she?s calling it in and we can all stop worrying about it and concentrate on building a team capable of cracking the top four.

Until a decision is made, though, I have no idea how we?re going to do next season.

Every night I pray to God this gets called in; this whole Kirkby thing just doesn?t feel right. It?s a gut feeling I get the more I hear about the plans changing from day to day. The Everton Board don?t give a fuck as long as it?s new, got 4 stands and a green bit in the middle and costs them fuck all. They make me sick.

World class stadium! I?m pissed off with being led up the garden path by these shitesters. You're dead right Lyndon, it is wrong. Very wrong that so much shit has to be spouted in order for people in charge of our club to get their own way. It?s heart breaking.

Surely it will be called in, with all the complaints about it, whether they are fact or fiction. I do not think it would pass any close scrutiny and hopefully when it fails Kenwright will sell up and take his stooges with him. This has and still is a sad time to be a Evertonian.

At times I actually feel sorry for Kenwright. I think he was desperate for a way to cling to power and it has clouded his judgement, which has led to lies and deceit from which there can be no return. I could accept a simple "I have not got any money to spend" as I believe he would... but, as he can't, he tries to hide behind lie after lie to the people that least deserve it ? the fans!

It appears every one is to blame apart from him: the Kings Dock stadium, the free Kirkby stadium, the mysterious Fortress Sports Funding. the NTL fiasco... all have one thing in common: Bill's lies and failure.

Once again, it?s "shoot the messenger" time... As Chad rightly pointed out, we try to provide Evertonians with links to information on the internet that is relevant to the current issues of concern, rather than meaningless blather and empty promises that seems to now fill 90% of what passess as "Everton News". If we see statements that come out of the blue (as it were), we highlight them. We obviously can?t be expected to take responsibility for the value or veracity of the of journalism behind them, but by exposing them to a wider but far more interested auidience, we may include someone who can state with authority that the highlighted issue is bollocks. Then again, we may not.

As more than one contributor has stated, the silence from Goodison Park is deafening. Consistent and meaningful information about Destination Kirkby has been saldly lacking. What we are left with is rumour and mis-information. But it is of course much easier to blame ToffeeWeb for the resulting level of concern and uncertainty, rather than the Club itself. Believe me, it really would be nice to have some new signings to headline.,.. but where are they???

If this underhanded farce to Kirkby ever does come about what will it matter if the Tesco supermarket is bang in the middle of the pitch or at the bottom of the retail park we will still be fucked. We will be dead in the water and there will be no way back.

It is of course right that this website should inform us of any info that might've slipped us by and I for one wouldn't put it past that slippery Bastard Kenwright to allow Tesco to build inside the stadium. After all it the same BK, the Mr "I love Everton so much it hurts" who has allowed this shambles to get this far.

As for signings and other matters concerning the club, I just can't get interested in them with this sickening Kirkby move hanging over us. I couldn't give a toss if we got 30 bob or £30 million for AJ at the moment as it won't mean a thing if Kirkby gets the green light.

So basically what the article says is that Kenwright cant even tell us the truth when it comes to his own first name!! Glad Fernandes has signed though. :0)

Tony Marsh spot on.

Kirkby has taken away all the good connected with Everton.

Kenwright and Wyness won’t get another carrot out of me while they are at the club.

Kenwright is a traitor of the highest order in my eyes. At least i’ve always known that Wyness is a money grabbing vulture who does not give a fuck about Everton FC.

The thing is Jeff my initial reaction to Kirkby was fuck them I wont step foot inside the ground and I have been a regular since 1958 then I started to imagine not going to support MY team not Billy Liars boys I’m weak willed I know Id end up going but I will not get a season ticket as it will not be needed nor will I spend a penny more in the ground than the entrance fee.I just hope if we do move Kenwright rots in hell .
