Who's in charge here?

Comments (10)

After hearing the director of communications for Uefa state that it's up to the old G14 clubs if prize money is distributed more fairly, I was wondering what chance do we have if we are up against this pathetically weak attitude from the bosses of football? Why would those clubs agree to any changes which would cost them? They already have massive wage bills and fans expectations to sign world stars each season!

If Uefa just decided to show some balls and say "from 2012 it will be a 70-30 split" (that to me sounds fair and it is nowhere near that now), then what would the G14 clubs do about it? Create their own league? Big deal, it wouldn't last 5 minutes because fans couldn't afford it.

I'm sure they would still get decent sponsorships but I just couldn't see it lasting as its human nature to oppose such a massive change (e.g XFL football league in US)! Why can't Uefa tell the old G14 clubs to either like it or not to slam the door on their way out?

Er...because it’s the old G14 that govern football and not UEFA!

It’s sadly true if the G14 did one so would the Sky money with them

The only reason anyone on here thinks the Uefa cup should get more money is because we’re in it. Let’s face it, if we were in the Champions League would we be happy to share out profits? No.

The Champs League pulls in the viewers and the sponsors, the Uefa cup doesn’t so much, simple as.

It’s like saying the Premier League should share it’s wealth with the lower leagues to stop the gap getting bigger.

Paul OHanlon, totally agree with you. Only reason we’re whining is because we’re in it. I wouldn’t complain if they changed it and we got more money though.

Thats what I'm saying Paul, the clubs that supposedly have the decision all play in that competition every year so why would they share? That's why I questioned why its down to them in the first place, talk about a vested interest! If Everton were one of the G14, I would expect exactly the same from them also!

Sorry Dan, was taking issue more with Wyness and others whininig about the share of the wealth.

You’re points a valid one about G14, but nothing new. Uefa have been scared of them taking their ball home for years (even though G14 supposedly disbanded last season!).

Money talks unfortunately, it’s the same at the FA and the Sky 4.

Can’t agree more with Paul.
Whilst Mr Wyness is bitching about a fair share I recall at least 2 teams from the football league teetering on the brink of administration, and Gretna in Scotland are all but extinct.
Did he release a few soundbites about us mega rich Premier league teams having a whip round and sparing a few million each?
Whilst it isn’t right, it’s the way the modern game works and perhaps we should be happy with our share of the money that we get.
As for the G14, fuck em! (and that isn’t sour grapes either).

If UEFA wanted to stop the G14 they could. If the G14 try to set up their own league UEFA could introduce a simple rule that only players who play for a recognised league will be allowed to play for their national team. Considering the patriotism of most European players the G14 clubs would be left with the money grabbers, and players towards the end of their careers who have finished at international level.

I know people will respond to this saying that players would choose club over country, I think they will be in the minority.

What is all this elitist crap. Maybe the CL is what everybody wants to watch, but there is more money involved than they are giving out. £400k for reaching the last 16 is bollox, you get more than that in the FA Cup FFS!

This shit about us only moaning cos we’re in it is symptomatic of the attitude in this country at the moment, "If it doesn’t affect me then I don’t give a crap". This is why all the money is at one end of the game. Without all the rest, the G14 wouldn’t be as well off as they are and the entire game is now geared towards keeping those very sides at the top. I read a lot of articles and posts on this site and there’s plenty of moaning about the Sky 4, yet when it comes to somebody speaking out about the bias in the game people are saying it’s just moaning. The apathy is astounding considering the turmoil our club is going through despite being the closest to breaking the monopoly.

One last point, why does every post and article at the moment end up back on the same shit about the fat fuck KW! What has the split of money got to do with him other than the fact that he came out and said it was unfair? There’s plenty of us who think that. He may be a fat useless liar, but do we have to talk about him at every opportunity? Well done Dan McKie for posting something other than a swipe at BK, KW or DK.
