Pre-season training
Comments (16)
It's six weeks to the start of the new season. I think our pre-season training schedule is due to start at the end of the week coming. I would presume most clubs will be starting theirs in and around the same time. I would think that most clubs will want to use this week in between to get a lot of their transfers sorted, at least by general agreement, if not set in stone. This would tie in with the fact that most managers players and agents are back off their holidays by now.
Moyes's idea of bedding new players in early last summer seemed to work a treat and if he is keen to build on last season's success then I would presume he would want a disruption-free pre-season again. I would expect him over the next six or seven days to be working flat out to sign the players he wants.
If by the end of the week and the start of pre-season, a lot of transfers have gone through, and we have not signed anyone I would then start to worry. Most of the decent players could well then be unobtainable. Until then I will be monitoring things very closely.

Take a look at the Sunderland fans website A Love Supreme according to them its between the Mackems and Pompey who sign him. We don't get a mention. Nial Quinns words apparently.
I just don't see us doing much at all and once again we will let a young up-and-coming striker slip through our grasp.
Bent, Ashton, Nuggent ? all could have been signed by Moyes for under £3 million a piece. Dont hold your breath Dave will do the right thing anytime soon...

Are you that daft to think I would make this up. You call it rumours when it is fact.
Ashton was on Evertons hit list for years untill Moyes arrived and we almost signed him when he was 17.
Moyes the genius didnt want to know about either of them and if I am right Royal had already told Bent he would be a Goodison hero
once he signed for the Blues. Its common knowledge. .
So John we never offered Charlton money for BENT by then he was already lost to us.
As for Art Greeth. once you get of your high horse and realise what this football game actually means to the common man you will stop your stupid platitudes and wake up to the fact that working class supporters like me know a little bit more than you give us credit for.
As far as Everton FC is concerned mate you are not on the same planet as me .
If Carlsberg made Evertonians they would be nowt like you Art.

Could it not be like the Bent deal were Charlton eventually accepted less money because the player did not want to go to the club who had made the highest bid. Preston accepted a bid for Nugent more than 3 weeks before the Sunderland bid was lodged according to Paul Simpson, so is there just a small chance that this bid was indeed Everton’s and eventually it won’t matter about Sunderlands bid as the player has to want to join the club.
Reading between the lines, if it was about money, Nugent would have already signed for another club as even Sunderland would offer higher wages than us, so its an interesting thought as to what the outcome will be.

Carry on posting in your own inimitable style, Tony... it is very, very entertaining (perhaps not for the reasons you presume), but don’t for one nano-second have the vanity to believe that you alone definitively represent the views of Evertonians everywhere.
As for advising me to get off my high horse... delicious irony from the man who consistently berates fellow Evertonians on here for not conforming to your view on all things blue.
And I have no intention of getting into a dick-measuring contest with you as to who or what represents a true Evertonian... I’ll happily concede that you are the biggest dick here.

Is it not more possible that they were seen as big gambles and their current ability wasn’t apparent at the time? Thus Everton chose not to sign them for those reasons, the same reasons they chose to gamble instead on the potential of a Cahill, a Yobo, an Arteta. If Moyes could accurately predict every players future ability he wouldn’t be managing Everton he’d be raking it in from the bookies each week
