Clubs are buying

For them people saying no-one is buying players yet. Where do you get that from?

  • Portsmouth 3 signings
  • Newcastle 3 signings with Geremi almost signed,
  • Boro 2 new strikers,
  • West Ham 2 signings.
Us, a big zilch! I chose these teams because you would expect them to be up there with us this season, and they have already got a head start on us.

Brian, I don’t know too much about what happens at Pmouth, Ncastle, Boro or West Ham. Actually, Idon’t know too much about what goes on in the Board Room at Goodison.

But I do know that Parker went from Ncastle to West Ham. And I don’t know if Muddlesboro have signed strikers like AJ, JV and VA, or even a James B or a Faddy (goal of the sason?) knocking about ready to come on, but they all clearly know what they’re doing, and we don’t. Waiting is the hardest part, and of course, it might never happen. Now that should cheer you up.

You could argue that Boro have strengthened with the signing of Tuncay, but the other clubs mentioned above are simply swapping players about. More importantly they are traditionally clubs who have a high turnover of players anyway in and out.

None of us have got the time or inclination to do this, but I’d have an educated guess if you were to look at the turnover of players, between those 4 clubs and Everton over the last few years, you’d clearly see huge differences in the figures of players in and out and that is why I am personally not worried.

We have had more consistency than any of them and regardless of who anyone else signs, consistency within the squad should not be taken for granted. The players we eventually buy will blend into the squad, not simply be there to make up the numbers and that is the difference. We have a core of 6 or 7 quality senior players already that have now been with the club for some time, other teams are still trying to get that consistencey and have been trying for years, so we may not be ahead in terms of number of players signed, but we are light years away in other respects.

Many Evertonians could name our full squad in a short space of time. Ask true supporters of the other clubs and the’d struggle with some names, purely because there’s that many players coming in and out all the time.

I for one feel more confident than ever that we will not be the yo yo club, people summise we have been and still will be and we are in for a sustained period of steady progress.

There’ll always be blips along the way and people naturally will become impatient. Joe Royle’s mini success era apart we are a transformed club from the dross that was served up through most of the 90’s and early millenium.

Myself and quite a few others were in those 14,000 crowds when we really were at a low ebb in the 90’s so anyone who thinks its still been carp under Moyes just take a look at our recent past. We are in a strong position to move forward again and naturally the events of 2 years ago are still strong in peoples minds and failure seems inevitable if we follow the same pattern.

Moyes will not let that happen, he’d walk away from the club 1st, as he’d be publically humiliating himself this time.

He was naive 2 years ago, he won’t be forgiven this time around so watch this space....

Brian, maybe I am the eternal optimist, but I feel there will be transfer news this coming week, Who? I would not even hazard a guess, the rumour mill has been grinding on, since the end of last season, but names will come in.

Bluey, just a few things,

(i) most Blues don’t give a rats arse that other teams fans cant name their own full squad

(ii) not worrying that we can name our full squad (wtf? our squad is that small schoolchildren could remember it)

(iii) the argument of teams swapping players is weak, we swapped Shrek for Howard and Neville?

Fact of the matter remains, our squad remains pinfully thin and hardly capable of comleting the league season never mind additional European games and the deafening silence from Billy Bullshitter speaks volumes, prepare for another fucking humiliation in Europe tied to BK selling us out to Kirkby, the RS must be lining up to party at our expense.

I think what KG was trying to say was that all 4 teams mentioned have had to replace key players who have or will be leaving.

Parker was player of the last two seasons at Newcastle, Kanu was Portsmouth’s player of the year last year, Viduka was Middlesborough’s star of the season and West Ham have lost their Captain in Reo Cocker and will almost certainly lose their inspiration in Tevez.

Everton for some reason considering their supposed incompetence are able to keep hold of their better players despite outside interest. Any signings made will strengthen and compliment what we already have, which at present is a top six premiership side.

Eloquently put Jon. In response to Gavin, I don’t give a stuff either about other teams squads. It was merely to demonstrate that we are now more consistent in retaining our most important players. As Jon quite rightly explains consistency forms a solid foundation to build the squad up from.

Our squad only appears thin because there’s players we and Moyes no longer rate in there eg Beattie,VDM. With a net addition of 3 players as a starting point (5 in 3 out) you’d be pleasantly surprised of how much stronger it would look for the coming season. Time will tell if those additions becomes reality or not.

Why is it that, as soon as something positive is posted here, that the usual suspects are up in arms, forecasting doom and gloom.

Gavin, mate, haven’t you got anything better to do at 6:40am? (like sleeping...).

We did not swap Rooney for Howard and Neville, we also got some £15/16 million (spent on Johnson, Lescott and Arteta, perhaps?) - not a bad deal, eh??

The painfully thin squad you mention just finished 6th (would have been 5th if not for a poor decision against Chelsea, but that’s by the by), and I don’t think we’re going to miss VdM or Wright, do you??

As I seem to recall, there is going to be a vote on whether we move to Kirkby or not, so unless you’re going to allege electoral fraud (do you fancy BK taking you to court for libel?), it will be the fans’ decision to move or not.

And as for any new signings we may or may not be making, do you really want us to announce who we’re after before we sign them, just to appease the doomsayers on here? You’d only say that we’re not seriously after them anyway, and that we’re only going public with our intentions to make it look like we’re trying.

We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, and to be honest, if it means compromising our transfer policy just to please you, I’d rather not know. The future of the club is more important than whether you’re happy or not!

In response to Bob, I have a two year old son who I get up with each morning v early before getting ready and driving 100 miles or so to work depending on where I am that day, TW is my first port of call together with other work related checks, I like to see him and have breakfast with him, nothing sinister there.

Bob are you another Doddy insider with the gist on Billy Bullshitters legal eagles, remember he was first to post about non Pravda agreement then a Dom King apology appeared, I’ll stick to distrust of the lying bastard and he can find me if he likes. How can targets get lost if the club pulls its finger out and sorts the deal quick enough?

The painfully thin squad now has some extra games or will they magically remain unscathed, unbooked and uncalled for in internationals? Don’t choke on the sand surrounding your head.

So the negative viewpoint is that we’ll go into the new season without adequate additions to the squad whilst the positive view is to put our trust in DM to do the business. Both viewpoints have their takers and I am firmly with the later. This is not because I am an eternal optimist or because I don’t think we’ve still got a long way to go whether me make signings or not. It is purely down to a point I made earlier that Moyes will not commit career suicide and risk the same thing that happened 2 years ago. He is well respected in the game amongst his peers. If he did go into the new season having not delivered on the transfer front, there’s a good chance the events of 2 years ago would likely be repeated, his postition is brought into question, he resigns or is sacked, reputation left in tatters. He’s put too much effort into the last five years to make a mockery of the opportunities last seasons efforts have brought us. Some might say it depends on the funds he is given or he’ll dither and miss potential signings altogether. We can all but speculate. Some of us will think postive, others are already set up for major disappointment but thats the nature of a site like TW- we each have an opportunity to express our views but it won’t make one bit of difference to what actually happens.

They were talking about signing me as it goes.

Ahem...in other news, we should just sign Smith and Richardson, then next season when they want to cast off a few more players, sign them as well, then start wearing red and call ourselves Everton United.

In other news....I’m very happy with our ex-Utd players and think we should sign more of them.

End.

PS Nugent, nah, he’s only been mentioned cos he wants to play for us.

Like Gavin,I think ’Bluey’ is another manifestation of ’Dickie Dodd’.Seb Sinclair is yet another and I’ve noticed over and over that whenever the club want to lower our expectations one of these clowns puts in a timely posting.Manipulating the Mailbag?Na,they wouldn’t do that surely?

I have to say, while this Summer has been frustrating waiting for new signings to come in, there is a lot to be said for having a stable squad year in year out. I’m sure we all remember the bad old days in the Howard (Mk III) and Smith years which seemed to see a flood of players coming in and out each Summer. This not only undermines team spirit and morale but also the tight bond formed to make a successful TEAM.

Having said that, and to completely contradict myself, I also remember at the end of the 95-96 season when we’d just finished in sixth place. We all saw this as being a great opportunity for us to really kick on and progress - with just two or three key signings required - a striker, a central midfielfer and a left winger were the positions we needed to fill. In the event we only signed Gary Speed and Paul Gerrard. I really hope this is not just a spooky coincidence and we are missing another opportunity!

Gavin, if we are headed for the "fucking humiliation in Europe" you foresee, then the extra games our painfully thin squad will play is the grand total of 2 - not a huge burden for a bunch of professional athletes, I would have thought? And you did say that they were "hardly capable of completing the league season" - hence my comment about them finishing 6th in the last league season.

So if having faith in the club is tantamount to burying my head in the sand, then criticising the club for everything and forecasting doom all the time is...? I thought we were supposed to be supporters; in my book, that means we support our team. I don’t see how being so negative about them is going to help.

PS Any tips on where you get your energy from? My 2 year old son runs me ragged in the morning ;-)

Nice one Brian. More than 1 person comments on something you don’t agree with and you merely result to cheap insults. Has it not occurred to you that more than 1 Evertonian who uses this site has a positive opinion about the club? You are either paranoid or plain daft if you think that any user could manipulate the mailbag.
You are entitled to have low expectations but don’t insult others who are looking forward to the new season.

So Gavin & Brian Noble am I still one of your clowns for suggesting on another reply (the letter headed ’PRESEASON TRAINING’) that Nugent would not sign for Sunderland. Some of us do know what we are talking about so lets leave it there heh.

Bluey where did I post Nugent wouldn’t sign for Sunderland????? There are two Gavin’s posting now one from Wales who usually leaves out his surname I don’t hide behind pseudonyms or nicknames and go by my name.

Bob not sure how I do it sometimes but by christ I sleep in at weekends, to it must be half seven sometimes ha ha, I am a supporter of the team and club just not the management who have let me down in their current guise too many times, I’m still unsure of Moyes but have posted in the past he seemed to learn post Spurs debacle its bit too optomistic with the silence from BK that we fail to move on and make a crack of Europe - PS if we lose AJ, Vaughan, Cahill or Arteta in a combination of three of the above what do we have in the reserves to limp in?

You haven’t read my response properley Gavin, it was me who made the comment about Nugent. If you feel let down so be it, I don’t and I am proud of hour far we’ve come in recent years. It doesn’t seem like the blues are goung to deliver what you want, so why continue to support a team you have no faith in?

Always wanted to ask what the likes of Gavin Ram,Marsh and Noble would need Moyes to do to regard his tenure as successful.Guess it would be the domestic treble and the euro Championship.Oh, and they’d have to play one touch football from front to back in every match!

Ladies and gents (say that as Bluey could be male could be female could be a plant) I am entitled to my opinions hence the board postings, support the club have done for years and still a season ticket holder despite Buster ripping the arse out of it. Seb, I and not just the more vocal ones out there want the team to play respectable entertaining football, not hoofball and not surrender hang on football, we have all seen glimpses of it but only glimpses. Why can’t you accept anyone else to have an opinion beyond rose tinted all is fabulous and all is perfect? A cup run isn’t beyond the realms of acceptable returns on five years in charge of a team but name once when DM has progressed to a quarter, semi or final of ANY cup competition?
