Riquelme Signs! on Official EFC site

Comments (18)

As many of you may have seen, the official EFC website has had a bit of a makeover. The website was down for sometime and when it was back online a story appeared saying the EFC had signed Riquelme. They have now moved to swiftly delete the story!

Not sure what happened.. wind up or story waiting to be released. They are all talking about it on the forum. Here is a link with the text actually on it, saying that EFC had signed him.

Evertonfc.com now has a this statement online claiming that their message earlier today about the signing of "a certain player" was erroneous and due to a technical mistake or whatever.

We are again the laughing stock of EPL. Almost every site reported about it - Teamtalk "Everton have been forced into an embarrassing climbdown after"

I guess its the Everton way of doing it or at least BK. I am really speechless

Shame you’re not the only one who’s speechless Stefan.

Sean, have you ever heard of capital letters or the letter ’H’?

Sorry, professional pedant here!

I am glad the guys at Everton.com are so professional after all every little helps. Talking about supermarkets I was amazed to see the differences in prices for Everton DVD’s ranging from 4.99 to 15.99 for various items. A friend of mine wanted 5 different DVD’s Cost at Everton website circa 76 quid cost at well known supermarket website (not that one) circa 38 quid. People’s club I’m not sure!

The developers were obviously testing the site and used it as test data but forgot to delete it.

I think its very funny...

There may well have been a design change in the website, but do we beleive the ’error’ or was it Everton getting a bit previous with their press release?
It wouldn’t be the ’Everton way’ to release the info too soon so who thinks they’re just crossing many T’s and dotting many I’s before Requelme does sign?
Oh and all the Jews were evacuated from the twin towers with no one else noticing...

Well, at least it’s reassuring that those behind the Official Site read the fansites. The Bluekipper peoples deserve some sort of award for getting their pet rumour onto the club’s own website.

You may say that I am living in cloud cook-coo land but this may actually be true. First of all, why would Everton place this on as a joke, they know it would only make them less popular with the fans and secondly, how do we know that this information was put on the site today accidetly and was not due to be put on at a previous date. I would not write this transfer off too early...

Correct me if im wrong like but didn't Real Madrid do something similar two years back when they had Ruud van Nistelrooy in their squad list before they had even bid for him!! I'm also sure they put that down to a "technical error" and sure enough, he signed a few weeks later. Ever the optimist, eh ;)

I reckon we should hold Everton to it and make them sign Riquelme. It’s the only fair thing for them to do.

The latest public embarrasing farce that was the Riquelme affair summed up the position of Everton in the media as a Club who have made progress but still way short of being able to attract a player with the flair and talent of Riquelme.

Most media streams continue to link Everton with the Moyes 'mould' player with the likes of Jagielka, Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson being bandied around. I'm not doubting that any of those mentioned have their attributes and may strengthen our existing squad; however, a player in the class of Riquelme would be an amazing scoop and add an extra dimension to our Arteta-led attacking options.

Villarreal, although recently succesful, cannot be considered as Spanish giants, if the Yellow submarine can persuade Riquelme to move from Barcelona to a side that attracts a gate of 17,000 then why can't Everton? If Everton are to move to the next level then it's all well and good having the workers and grafters, the Moyes-cloned fitness fanatics and well-drilled defensive approaches. However, every now and then a player like Riquelme can add that extra ingredient, the silver stardust, the catalyst, its time to stop pretending and start acting, Evertonians deserve a Riquelme once in a while.
