Nugent Deal

Comments (5)

I believe that Preston are asking £6M for David Nugent because, when they signed him from Bury (for £100k!!), there was a sell-on clause amounting to 20% of the transfer fee. This would equate to Bury receiving £1.2M with Preston receiving the remaining £4.8M. This lad has talent and, if Everton offer £5M NOW, they would get him. Both Preston and Bury along with the majority of EFC supporters would be very happy if this happened.

It isn?t gonna happen. We need replacements in midfield and defense before Moyes thinks about a forward.

How about we get some players who can paly to the forwards we have before buying someone else to punt the ball to?!

Well there’s at least one Evertonian who wouldn’t be happy. Simple fact Nugent is not worth £6 million. He is unproven at the top level and we already have two younger up & coming forwards who have proved they can score goals at Premiership level. The majority of supporters only want him because he’s a Blue. I’ve watched him many times and I’ve never seen him produce a performance that’s had me on the edge of my chair.I’m not saying he wouldn’t be worth a gamble but not at £6 mil. Personally I don’t care who players support as long as the give their all and make us a better team.

I can’t understand the theory that we’re adequately resourced upfront. I agree that we need artistry and wide players in midfield to supply the frontmen, but I always think that we have the capacity to fire blanks with the forwards we’ve got.

Looking at Spurs, who we need to compete with for that 4th spot, should it ever be relinquished by the Big 4, they’ve got Berbatov, Keane, Bent and Defoe.

Now in all honesty, even allowing for 2 promising but unproven kids, we’ve got Johnson and Beattie. No comparison.

Big ambition = cover in all areas.

Nugent is travelling to the South coast for talks with Portsmouth today after Sunderland withdrew their (accepted) £7m offer. The only way we will get him is if he tells Paul Simpson to accept a low offer from Everton now - @£4m - or he will stay until January. His talks with Harry Redknapp make this highly unlikely.
By the way, Koumas said "It would be nice to be back in the City". At no time has he stated he wants to play for Everton. Subtle difference, but he is an RS after all.
I would prefer us to go for Nolan and Manny on loan again.

Team Talk (so it's gottna be true): Pompey set for £7m Nugent raid

Portsmouth appear to have won the £7million race to sign David Nugent after Sunderland ended their interest in the Preston striker.

Rather have Smith anyway...
