Website: 30 and counting...

The new Official Everton FC website. I counted 30+ links, logos, promotions, news items, ads, etc, all of which as their purpose would have you part with cash. Other than that, about 5 or 6 news stories or stats pages avaialble that wouldn't.

What was already a poor site is now an advertising hoarding. It is now removed from my Favourites list.

Unfortunately, Nick, the official site's main purpose in life is to make money and the proliferation of ads and money-generating links is a reflection of this. It's the same across the Web; content is drowned out or obscured by advertising, much of which we've all grown accustomed to tuning out.

People amaze me sometimes. We scream for investment and to come into the club, but complain when companies pay the club to advertise on the club site. You can’t have it both ways, why do you think we have the name Chang on the front of the shirt instead of Everton.

Although I agree with all of you - there is a simple answer. The new site has a feedback spot on the bottom left - write to them and tell them what you think of the site. If enough people complain they may change it to something you do want.

Maybe the lack of any worthwhile news is due to the fact that we’re in the close season and, erm.... there isn’t any news to report.

As for ’ads whose purpose it is to make you part with cash’? Wonder why they’d want anyone to do that. You’ll be telling me they’re sell merchandise with the club badge on it next!

Ranieri spent the first £100 million of Abramovich’s billions in a single close season thanks to post-Soviet privatisation. Not through downloading 3D Icons and linking to Bet247.cOM.

The Official Everton Website should be the 1st point of call for all Everton fans, in the UK oR world wide and they’re greeted with no proper information, rather just advertisments in Blue.
This is what I find a disgrace.

As for crying out for investment, I’d rather progress with just EPL and Chang money etc than give up being a football club and becoming like the Top Four... here’s to success via football!

Nick,

Just out of curiousity, I just had a look at the official sites for Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

All of them carry numerous advertisements, all variations on a common theme - ringtones, club tv channels, betting sites etc. The Man Utd one even carries a ’press rumour’ section which mentions our alleged interest in Smith and Richardson !

My point is, our official site is no different from the vast majority of other clubs. Feel free to take a look for yourself.

Nick, then the only success you will be seeing for Everton is in your dreams. Everton FC does not live in the idealistic world, we are in the real world and having to deal with the business realities of the Premiership. Advertising is everything. Think about the advertisement going on inside the stadium, on the jersey, and anywhere else. Advertising is how websites make money, and since this is Everton’s official website it is making Everton money. You don’t have to go to any of those links, but if it results in a high amount of traffic coming from Evertons site to those advertised sites, those sites will increase the amount they are paying for advertising and other companies will want to advertise as well. This all brings Everton money. I work for an automotive website and this is how we make all our money from companies like Ford, General Motors, Lexus, BMW, etc all paying to advertise on our site. And we are a 100 Million earning company. So don’t count out the money that can be generated by advertising.

Tom, David,

I agree with your points. Advertising is part and parcel of a website. But it’s a website, there to give information first to Everton fans... if it’s an advertising hording first and foremost, I won’t be logging on.

There are phone companies around the world who want to interupt your calls and play 10 second commercials, this is no better.

If there is to be an Everton site which is for advertising, fair enough, I would just like a website fit for purpose.

Where as we can agree to disagree, answer me this, is there any point as to why YOU should visit the webiste?

There’s an element of pragmatism invovled. If you bombard people with too much marketing, it quite simply doesn’t work. I think that’s what we have with the new site.

Right, I’m off to buy my dancing David Moyes phone animation.

Dan, if only you posted earlier!

Don’t suppose you’re able to sort out the middle east are you?

Just out of interest - have any of you actually complained to EFC about this?

What? Actually try and do something proactive? It’s not the Everton way Sir!

It’s far easier to have a good old moan on ToffeeWeb!

To Nick’s point, I’m sure I could advise on the Middle East as well as the next man but I’m far too busy with my work commitments and moaning on ToffeeWeb. Unfortunately we’re stuck with Tony Blair unless I can free some time in the next year or so.
