Errata!

There's one thing I don't understand about this Riquelme 'error' and the Club's official explanation. If I was pissing about with a website to see how it looked I wouldn't be writing an article about a player who had already been linked with Everton and which, when read, was believable! I would REALLY piss about and write some nonsense about how Everton had gazumped Barcelona for the signature of Thierry Henry and signed him for 40p because he made it known his lifelong ambition had always been to play for Everton! Just for a laugh!

Now I know computer buffs are usually boring gits (sorry Lyndon — no offence meant) but they do have a semblance of a sense of humour and it just doesn't ring true to me.

I don't know much about computers but I do know a lot about human nature and I seriously think that this may have been a piece hanging around in cyberspace waiting to be published... and then something went wrong and Riquelme wasn't signed and it was mistakenly resurrected and published during the 'experts' undertakings.

But then, in fairness, I'm still convinced that that shadow in the trees behind the Grassy Knoll was Nikita Kruschev!

Well, Eileen, I would counter and say that I'm more a Web buff than a computer buff — truth be told, I'm more fond of my real-world, professional Art Director title — but I don't think you were intending to make that kind of distinction so I'll just take the "nerd" jibe on the chin :D

I picture it as an employee of the company that looks after the club site, who?s an Evertonian, putting together the article for testing purposes and simply "typing" up a fantasy he?d love to see appear on the club site. Just generally "titting" about and enjoying doing his job. Then Oops, that shouldn?t have happened and it?s Bill?s fault the deal fell through, the board?s fault..blah blah blah

Brian,

Yeah, but if that was the case EFC would just say so would they not? This was a Company (assisting Everton in setting up their website) with no direct connection with Everton so why would they write such a piece? If I was helping Tesco to set up their website I wouldn’t get involved in their deliberations about the price of peas!

I just wonder!!

But then again, Tesco doesn’t have 500,000-or-so fans. Even companies without direct connections can have Toffees as employees, Eileen.

But Eileen YOU weren’t working for the website and somebody else was. Somebody with different opinions and different views on such things as who would be a fantasy signing.

You are just someone posting dodgy conspiracy theories.

I found this a bit weird too. We’ve been linked with this player since we played Villareal and I’m certain that this is down to Moyes taking a great like to him (no smoke without fire and all that). He’s the Argentinian Paul Scholes and maybe Moyes sees him as the final piece in his Sir Alex puzzle.

Eileen - you are braver than me to claim a knowledge of human nature, but I?ll go along with you in thinking that there are just too many coincidences here for Riquelme?s name to pop up on the club site in this way.

I would have gone for the loveable Italian ex-ref Collini signing for us if it was my mock-up. You know, I?m sure, how obituries get into the papers so promptly - because they?ve already been written. Just add the date at the bottom.

So something may well have been written, prepared, and then the cock-up happens. We don?t know, and never will, just like the Grassy Knoll thing - it might have been Groucho, making it a Marxist conspiracy. But what we know for sure is that nobody was ever tried for the murder.

As a professional boring git, I can assure everyone that accidents like this do happen. I was once personally responsible for putting some very inappropiate material on our company?s website.

However, web design companies tend to use lorem ipsum to test their design, and they have two reasons for that:

1. They claim that sensible text automatically draws the attention of the viewer to itself and not the design.

2. They usually know very little of the exact nature of the content that will be filled into their design.

But anyway, I would put this one down to a bitter or exhausted employee with a twisted sense of humour.

Si, How do you say it in English no? I would love to come to your country and your club but I don’t fancy flying Easyjet home every week.

The company that does the official website is owned by none other than Ben Hatton son of Deggsy. Both fanatical Evertonians.

Hola senor Riquelme, y muchas gracias por su mensaje. Es una sopresa que sabe no mas de dos palabras de castellano. Esta seguro que no es, por ejemplo, un bastardo de la mierda roja? Que chiste! Adios amigo.

(Hi Mr R, & thanks for your message. It is surprising that you know only two words of Spanish. Are you sure that you are not, for example, a fatherless redshite? What a joke! Farewell friend.)

Article was posted by a mischievous RS-supporting employee who though he would have a wind up at the expense of EFC and their supporters. The culprit has since been suspended pending further investigation into the incident.
