No signings for 3 days?

So, after a week's holiday, we were all hoping that Moyes would get down to some serious transfer business. Ha! So instead he packs his bags again and takes the squad to St Andrews for three days! So no signings this week either then? It won't be long before they're all off to America again, then were will we be? I was in the 'dont panic' camp... but now I'm beginning to worry.

Yep, it's not going to be easy signing players with the manager flying off all over the place every few days. Which is why they wanted to get the transfer business done early last summer...

yes, me too. I’ve been trying to stay in the ’don’t panic Mr Mainwaring’ camp but was concerned to read that the lads had jetted off to Scotland for three days which takes us nicely up to the weekend. Then what? Where’s Mystic Meg when you need her? Perhaps she could tell us what’s going on. A lot can happen in a few days in the world of football but I have to say, I’m just getting a little bit concerned that Jagielka’s signing will be the highlight of the transfer window (no disrespect to him of course).
Come on DM, put us out of our misery.

To be honest I am beginning to suspect, that we wont be bringing anyone in this summer. Jagielka aside, now that Sheff have been condemned. If DM is up at St Andrews then off to America....when will he fit it in. Am i right in saying that we spent this seasons transfer budget last year??? on Andy Pandy et al!?

It’s not like Scotland’s the end of the world... And surely Moyes got a cellphone?

Andy, don’t worry, Moyes doesn’t need to be in Goodison for Everton to sign players. Player registrations have to carry the signiture of the club secretary and another club offical. Even if he did need to sign any documents it can be done via fax. So it doesn’t matter, he could in Ulan-Bator in outer Mongolia, as long as he is on the end of a phone line to say yay or nay to any prospective signings, Everton can still sign players.

I’m still in the "Don’t panic" camp and agree entirely with Erik. I also take heart from the growing speculation in the media this week (and its not just eminating from the rags). I personally think Smith would be a good addition and has always played with the hunger and desire that would surely endear himself to us fans. Richardson would hug the touchline and do a job down the left, and with Baines behind, I think this could be a very positive move indeed.
However, most importantly, my hope for new additions has been encouraged by the new contracts signed last week. Both Cahill and Mikel have had the opportunity I’m sure to look at other clubs and with players of their quality, other teams have undoubtedly made approaches, yet despite the rumoured interest they both chosen to devote potentially the best years of their playing careers to the Blues. They are on good money but by no means astronomical wages (in comparison to the money WHU are paying for mediocre players), and they clearly have a great rapport with the Goodison faithful. I believe they have seen something more, they have seen the vision that Moyes has in place, and maybe have been encouraged to sign by the "ambition" we are poised to show in the transfer market.
So for the time being, I’m still in the wait and see category.

We made two bids for Gunter when Moyes was off on his jolies. He doesn?t have to be in the vicinity to rubberstamp an offer.
Relax.

Nick, are you on speaking terms with Moyes and BK?If not, how do you know Cahill and Arteta are not on astronomical wages?Wasn’t it rumoured at one time Arteta was looking for about 60 grand a week?If thats not astronomical wages I don’t know what is.

I have to say that my finger is on the panic button but not pressing (Yet!!).
I am quite sure that the situation is under control and that 3 or 4 new faced will arrive. Such is the life of an Evertonian though, I can’t help thinking that maybe no one will arrive and everything will go wrong!
As i said, I have faith in Moyesy and am sure that by season start things will be in place, but if things don’t happen soon I will be found running round screaming with my hands in the air!!

And the Jagielka deal isn?t by any means a certainty by the way. On Sky Sports News late last night they said Everton weren?t keen to match the release clase price and wanted to try and negotiate it down.

Nugent off to Pompy
Richardson off to Sunderland
We are still haggling over the Jagielka price.
No news on Fernandes ever coming back.
I think i am just gonna stop checkign the footy news and come back in a week hoping all is better.

No Brian I’m not on speaking terms with Moyes nor Kenwright. I am simply going off the same "rumours" that you are over Arteta’s alleged wage demands.
Since you want to base it on rumours, it is widely regarded that the highest earners at EFC (i.e. Johnson, Yobo, perhaps Beattie earn approx. £40k a week) have parity clauses in their contracts. It has been suggested that both Arteta and Cahill have seen their weekly earnings knocked up to around the £40K mark, putting them on a par with the others. Therefore, if Arteta and Cahill had signed contracts for £50k, £60k, £70k a week not only would Wyness have choked on his doughnuts, but I think we may have heard that Johnson and Yobo had seen their wages adjusted accordingly.
Finally, the £60k wage demands that you claim Mikel was "rumoured" to have requested, was in fact the monies that West Ham Utd were believed to have been offering him had his £20m deal gone through, as rumoured 4-5 weeks ago in the reliable News of the World.

Well,Well,Well the penny is finally starting to drop now lads.
As I said in the first week of June the signs were not good for incoming transfers and I got slaughterd for it by the likes of John Prior and Art Greeth.
How confident are they now about good old Moyes and Kenwright going on a shopping spree and delivering the goods.
The worst of it is the silence that we fans are supposed to put up with. Just sit back and take it like lemons. We are once again being mugged off by the people who run the club and its a fucking disgrace.
I hate to say it but I told you so.

Tony I was on ere a couple of weeks back and suggested that we had no money for transfers because we were keeping it as our contribution to the new stadium. Like yourself i was slaughtered. Maybe the best we can hope for is just to keep our best players this summer i.e signing Arteta and Cahill on big deals? hope im wrong, i really do. Do we really want richrdson anyway though? hes shite!

All this panic is down to boredom. I bet you’d all be happy if we were signing a load of shite, "just as long as we’re making signings!". I don’t feel as if we need a huge number of players. I think two or three additions to last year’s squad will be fine. And I’m confident of getting them, probably at lower prices in August than for £16Mil in July.

Tony,
I agree with you about the silence but when I suggested that Everton should learn to manage the relationship with their fans better I was told in no uncertain terms by Michael that it is not all about me. Maybe we should just accept that the club have no interest in keeping us informed or happy...

May not please everyone out there but Smith is 8/13 on to be a blue. Silence does breed contempt I agree and not only because of there being so much info out there about other clubs signing people.

Hang on John, the Jags deal is not done yet, and do you honestly think that if he is the only addition to the club that we have had a successful close season?!!!!!! ...and as for Smith - 1 goal in 18 games...

Sky Sports were reporting last night that Jag will be the first to leave, with Everton favorites to land him. Sources close to Sheffield United are saying that Everton aren't matching the valuation of £4M. Great just like one of those duracell bunnies the Jagielka saga just goes on and on and on. At this rate, I wouldn't be suprised if we don't sign anyone.

My brother rang me (who is a redshite) to take the piss once again out of me. He said he was watching Sky Sports News, and they said we were favourites to sign Jagielka for £4M, but we are un-willing to pay all the £4M up-front. Jesus man, are we that fucking skint that we can't pay it all?
I'm not having all this shite about it being the way clubs do business now. I could understand if it was £10-15 million. but £4million!?! We are getting players on the never-never. My brother's final words were once again "small club, moving to a small town and skint as fuck, what a fucking joke" By the way, I watched Sky Sports News and they have just confirmed it.

I trust that David Moyes will remember that we always seem to have some injuries in pre-season training which limits the squad available for the opening games of the season, and he will ensure that we do have adequate cover.

Brian dont take any shit off poolies. Ive not met one of them who has a fuckin clue what they’re talkin about. Best thing to do is ask them were they sit at the match.....when they reply they watch it on sky, just tell them to f*ckin behave.

Bluenose, don’t worry mate,he was told to well and truly fuck himself. The problem is we seem to be feeding him the ammunition he needs to take the piss. The website fuck-up with Riquelme, moving to Kirkby, offering down payments on £4m.And it doesn’t help when the shite are talking about a state of the art stadium and rolling out players for £27m.The only way I can wind him up is when I start going on about Man utd,it kills me to big them up to him,but he fucking hates it.

Again the RS taking more interest in what we’re doing. Are they so bored that they’ve got to belittle a so called. ’small club’ Why aren’t they exchanging banter with Chelski and Manure fans- because they know they’ll get the piss taken out of them for having a spanish waiter as a manager. They’ve wasted more money than we’ll ever spend and they’re still no closer to where they want to be. The signs may not look good for us next season but its what we’ve come to expect supporting the blue’s.

Fair play mate, nice one
I know what you mean though, were our own worst enemy, if people arent laughing at us we always find away to balls it up on our own. Is this the ’everton way’ BK was talkin about the other day?

In regard to lack of signings, the Jagielka deal is just about rapped up with him already agreeing personal terms. Since we are the first in line and his preferred destination, why not try to knock a bit off the price tag when bargaining with a team that is being relegated? As for further players, I thnk Paddy Boyle is going to be stepping into our team at left back. He was loaned out last season and did very well until he injured his back. But he has recovered from that and is with the boys in Scotland training as we speak. I think Da Silva will also be getting playing time this season. Moyes only got him for the second half of last season and obviously saw something in him to lead him to sign for another year instead of cutting ties. I didn’t realize how big the guy is and hopefully training with the likes of Arteta will do him some good. Bjarni could also move up to the "squad player" status for us this season, seeing some playing time as he is still young but seems to be in the clubs plans for the future. That said, before I get torn apart for staking our hopes on these players let me say that is not what I am saying at all. I’m just pointing out that we will probably have 2-3 youngsters coming into the team that won’t be viewed as signings but they are additions. We sign these players not just to sit in the reserves for their contract, but to gain playing experience to allow them to grow and develop into a first team player. They have to come up eventually. I have heard many gripes about the youth players we let go such as Dunne, Jagielka, etc. But will probably hear the same people complaining about bringing Boyle and Bjarni into the side as well. All that said though, I still think there will be another couple of players signed during the summer.

Andy - three days isn?t such a long time, unless someone has locked you in the cupboard under the stairs, I guess.
Any number of players are available out there for us to sign. But it that what we want, just anyone? Like all of us, you want EFC to sign the player of your choice - would that be the same as DM?s choice? Can you chip in a few million quid to fund any difference?
Let them do something, weigh it up and comment. Any comment about them doing nothing would be right if we knew that what was going on. Like if you are sitting on your arse and knowing that the bin bag is so bad it should be taken out to the bin.
Moyes and co. have either decided to do nothing, or have decided to do something and haven?t got what they wanted, or have done it and we just don?t know yet. Take your pick.
