Moyes buys a new Jag
Comments (8)
Mock the club if you will for not buying a big-name signing but how many gems has Moyes unearthed to-date? Let's not forget Tiny Tim, Lescott, Arteta (for £2.5M!!!), Yobo, Howard etc.
In fact the only big cock-ups seem to be the 'big name' signings of Beattie and Krøldrup.

I am an optimist and an admirer of Moyes but I have to admit that I am getting nervous. Why? Well:
1) Jags has not signed.
2) Smith wants to stay at Man U
3) Nugent is in talks with Portsmouth
4) Richardson is shite
5) Koumas is over-priced at £5M
6) We have let 3 squad players go
7) 6 weeks before first game and no signings
8) Our team are away for the next few weeks so Moyes may have to speak to potential signings over the phone rather than face to face
9) Baines will not be allowed to go by Wigan unless they get shit loads
10) Sheff Utd are appealing against the decision so Jag's deal could be delayed for a while
11) Beats, Naysmith, VDM and Ozzie are shite
12) Arteta and Tiny Tim would not have signed new deals unless promised new faces this summer. If we do not sign these players, they will not be happy chaps going into the new season
13) We have Beattie... think I might have said that, oh well he deserves a couple of points.
15) Turner is not good enough for stand-in (Man U anyone?)
14) Hammers, Newcastle, Villa and Spurs have all bought good players and with six weeks to go we have signed none...
Well there you go. I have let out my worries and can now sit back with a cold beer and hope to see better news! :-)

5) Koumas is shit, we shouldn’t go anywhere near him.

Re: your points: 1) Jags HAS signed. 2) We shouldn?t be going after Smith, he isn?t the creative midfielder or wide midfielder we need. 3) Nugent had talks with Sunderland too. Lets see if he signs with Pompey. If rumours are to be believed, he won?t and will hold out for Everton. 4) Richardson is indeed rubbish. No confirmation Moyes is even interested in him though, just paper speculation. 5) Koumas is over-priced, I agree. 6) Doesn?t apply anymore. 7) Doesn?t apply anymore. 8) Moyes is allowed to jet away from the training camp. He has staff around him who can run the training for a few hours. It?s not vital that he?s there to see Beattie miss open goals in games of 5-a-side. 9) No confirmation we?re in for Baines. 10) Doesn?t apply anymore. 11) Ossie is okay. Beats and VDM are rubbish. Nyasmith looks to be on his way. 12) Arteta and Tim signed new 5 year deals. Maybe they know something you and I don?t. 13) Turner had a bad game vs Utd. Southall had a few bad games when he first played for us. It happens. 14) Hammers and Newcastle have had to spend a lot because they?re both significantly rubbish. We finished 6th, we already have a half decent team. Villa have yet to sign anyone. Spurs spent a load on a kid with potential.

Jason Koumas was voted Championship Player of the Year ahead of David Nugent who was second. He has also been chosen by his fellow players in the Championship Team of the Season for the past two seasons. That means in the 2005/06 team he was in the same line-up as Lescott and Jagielka. Nugent is absent from the 2006-07 line-up.
So exactly how bad is Koumas? Strikes me the guys he plays against are probably reasonable judges.

Koumas can’t cut it in the Premiership, we saw that with West Brom. Some players are great in the Championship but just can’t make the grade in the top league. That shit Norwich winger Darren Huckerby springs to mind as an example.
Nugent hasn’t had the chance in the Premiership so who knows if he will shine playing with better players?

Moyes watched Koumas for yonks at Trannie and decided he wasn’t worth a punt at £1.5M.Now at three times the price,he’s looked on as a good buy!Signings like this and Jagielka demonstrate the limit of the manager’s and club’s ambition and will eventually see us back in the doldrums.

Christ alive!! Some people are never fucking happy. Even if we had a £30-40m budget this summer, I would still think that Philly Jag was a good signing at a good age with good versatility.
I completely agree with Ryan. Some good points pal, although I personally think Ossie is shite and despite all his failings and the seemingly limited budget, I would be prepared to give Beattie a final stay of execution.
I agree that the teams around us have spent a lot of money on little quality, particularly highlighted by the signing of Reo-Coker for £8.5m!! O’Neill has been out of football for while god bless him.
I’m also with Richard regarding Koumas. There is little doubt that his price is inflated, but West Brom are a team who were knocking on the door of the Premiership last year and he was a considerable contributory factor. They are asking £8-10m for Davies who missed the last third of the season through injury. Koumas is clearly highly thought of by his fellow players in the Championship. Correct me if I’m mistaken but last summer we paid £5m for a boy who had been voted only 3rd Best Player in the Championship for the 2005-06 season and he’s turned out to be an absolute marvel!!
