Jagielka

What the fuck is going on? Firstly I am glad we have signed Jagielka but am bemused at David Moyes's comments. He said we are hoping to add one or two more. I hope he meant four or five more. I am also suprised by Gary Naysmith moving the other way. Although he is not a fan favourite he is a squad player who can cover left back and left mid. Moyes needs to prepare well and to be honest with you it does not look good.

Oh for God's sake, pull yourselves together! All this second-guessing and insane impatience is driving me mad! We've signed someone.... let's work with that for the next few days and see who else comes in. Are you all really going to fret yourselves into a lather because you expect 5 and only 3 show? Either a few of you are in desparate need of a summer break... or I am!!!

Has Naysmith gone the other way?

There’s negotiation Tom, about Naysmith going the other way. This deal with Jags is done anyways. If we get a mill or two for Naysmith, I wouldnt mind. But yes, we should need a couple more players! Lets hope!

I usually disagree with Michael about most things Everton but I have to say I am in total agreement with his comment above. Well said although I doubt your words will be heeded!

Well said Michael.
Even though we now have signed someone, which was the main bone of contention with some people, the majority seem to have gone negative again. It seems like one thing gets sorted and rather than being positive about that the pessimists move on to the next problem.

Afraid I can’t get too excited about Jagielka. He’s an average bits and pieces player in the Phil Neville mould who probably wont even start the season in the first team.Looks to me as though Moyes is again budgeting to finish in the top half ’and then see what we can do after that’.Quality and flair will again be missing from this very pragmatic manager’s squad.

How could the prat sign for Everton with red ink all over his teeshirt?Surely somebody could have given him a Blue top for the picture?Everton’s PR stinks!

The may be alot of second-guessing and insane impatience going on, but ask yourself this question- When the silly season comes to an end what will we all do with our days? Or is it just me that checks the likes of BBC, Sky Sports and other rumour pages far to frequently!

Errr... Matt, I think when silly season ends we will finally get some football to watch. For me that is more of a lure than those rumour pages?....

not sure ur right there mate. i dnt think we need 4 or 5 more players just now. Too much change so fast could change david moyes’ tactics which wer so succesful last yr all together.
after all, last season we signed AJ, Lescott and Howard. all of these were in contention for player of the yr as they were simply outstanding.
if we sign 2 more on top of Jags these cud also be in contention for player of the yr along with: Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Cahill, Arteta, AJ and Vaughan nxt yr. the fact that we can have so many competing for player of the yr shows that our team is very strong already.
if over the next 3 yrs we sign 9 players (3per/yr) then we could see an everton side in the top 4 every yr.
nvr know, we mite get 2 more players an fernandes on loan.
in 2 yrs these young lads moyes has signed may be coming into the 1st team aswell.

Not seen much of jagielka, apart from a screeming 30 yard goal for sheff utd so not made up my mind other than 1. we have finally signed someone and 2. he is at the very least cover a number of positions come any dodgy injury periods.

Moyes always plays down numbers and does not give too much away so i would not read too much into his adding "1 or 2" more players, i have a feeling it will be at least 3 more.

One thing i am concerned about is that biffa does not seem to be going anywhere! Sorry biffa you treid your best but we need the 30k a week for someone who can win us games, turning those frustrating draws last season into 3 points (if we had done that in 5 games would be in CL now - laughing at those clowns accross the park in the uefa cup).

Finally, i would have sooner got nugent than smith (if we do get him) as smith has hardly set the prem alight and has peaked, nugent on the other hand at least had bags of potential.

Paddy Boyle is back with the first team squad this year and Naysmith hardly got a game last year so while he has been good servant the club has moved on in quality and he has slipped down the pecking order. Plus he is 28 so lets get the cash now and put it towards someone younger. Preferably a left sided midfielder.

Sean you say Moyes,s tactics were so succesful last year all together. How Why When.

The football most of the time was the worst I have ever seen from any Everton side in 35 years.

We were knocked out of the cups in the early rounds once again as we always do under Moyes. Yes we finished in 6th place but what good has it done we are still skint.

As for this Eufa Cup competition dont count your chickens just yet mate we hevent qualified to the group stages yet.

RE: Tony.
well maybe the football isnt the most adventurous, i agree, but since he moved 2 upfront rather than 451 it’s improved over the 2nd half of the season.
the fact he made Lescott play left back succesfully which led to an england cap is another successful tactical ploy.
decidin to use 2 fast strikers upfront to keep the defender’s eyes from focusing on johnson another succesful tactic. with anichebe or beattie defenders wud not have to worry about the a second pacy striker.
ok so the cup runs havent been great but our last great cup run led to the sacking of walter smith against boro so even then fans wernt happy.
if we concerntrate on the league first then gud cup runs will follow becoz thats wer the money is (league pos).
the fact we reached the uefa cup must hav also misled me, an many fans, into believing our season was more succesful than many in recent yrs.

We have by my reckoning just 17 players at the moment, including Beattie and VDM, and excluding Naysmith. Incredible really. Surely Moyes and Kenwright will not allow us to go into the season with such numbers. Could they be so complacent and incompetent. I won’t go too many next season to watch Osman trundling up and down that right wing. I honestly thought that Moyes this summer would finally bring in at least 1 pacy wide player. Obviously not.

1Howard
2Ruddy
3Turner
4Yobo
5Lescott
6Stubbs
7Jagielka
8Neville
9Hibbert
10Valente
11Boyle
12da Silva
13Carsley
14Cahill
15Osman
16Arteta
17McFadden
18Vidarsson
19Johnson
20Vaughan

I agree we need players, essential to sign a winger and centre mid and a striker and left back would be a huge bonus.
But when saying we only have 17 players at least get the facts right, my reckoning is 23 not 17.

Jags is a useful signing. I expect him to be the first choice right back next season. Very quick and will be on the edges of the England squad. So useful, but not so useful that he will get poached by those with deeper pockets or bring an ego that will upset the team ethic. He can also provide cover across the back four and midfield.

So a good signing. What is all the negativity about as posted on this site? I don?t get it. We will do well to maintain a top 6 position next season with all the new money sloshing around. Jags is the ideal signing in this context. Alan Smith would be a good addition. More versatile than Nugent and a proven Prem player. We need a bit of a spark or skill from somewhere in midfield, but this summer may simply be the wrong summer to splash the cash ? prices are inflated. 17m on Bent ? I ask you.

Is it possible Moyes has seen something in the youngsters in the squad, eg J P Kissock, to be convinced that we can survive without vast numbers coming in? I would personally love to see more quality arrive but at the right price.
