Getting rid of Deadwood or just Skint?

In his 5 years in charge Moyes can be credited with shipping out 'deadwood' and lowering the average age of the squad. However, since the loss of Kilbane, Weir, Davies, Pistone, Wright, loanee Fernandes, and now possibly Naysmith, Moyes has only added Jagielka to an already small squad since start of last season.

Yes, fair enough a few of those players would be seen as 'deadwood', but most could come in and do a job for a game or so. It's okay getting rid of squad players, but surely they have to be replaced? How much of moving these players on is brought on by Financial necessity, rather than strategic thinking by Moyes?

The most frustrating thing for me about Moyes is that here is an Everton Manager who has never been in such a strong position to put pressure on the Board to back him with finances, to make signings that actually show a bit of ambition and help this club to move forward. It's great keeping transfer targets quiet, but it is incredibly worrying that Moyes is hopeful of bringing in 1 or 2 more. Just how many versatile players who can fill in at several positions can Moyes sign?

Getting rid of deadwood is great, but squad numbers need replacing.
