Squad numbers... any indication?

Now this is a rather speculative idea, but is there anything that can be read into the new squad numbers for this season? As it is early days, I'm not sure if they are set in stone, but some things are quite striking! (NB: My point is regarding the players section on the official website, which is also running the story about Lescott as No5 this morning)
1. We seem to have no number 1!! Our first choice keeper is undoubtably Tim Howard, but why then has he not been given the No1 shirt? I would have thought with Dicky moving on, the No1 was definitely being left open for the USA No1.
2. Beattie still holds the No9! Has he really deserved this honour?
3. Andy van der Meyde is still No7. Now I have heard rumour after rumour about him leaving Goodison. However, he looks in better shape than in recent seasons and has definite skills/flair/crossing ability that we need, if his other antics can be tamed! Has Moyes given him another 'last chance' to 'pay back the Everton fans faith in him'?
4. Joleon Lescott has the coverted (for all aspiring evertonian defenders) No5 shirt. This for me is great news! I hope this indicates he is to fill the traditional No5's position of centre back this season, alonside Yobo. (although I do think he covered well enough at left back last year)
This could all be bollocks, and I am well aware that with the state of football these days a number means very little. From a traditionalist's viewpoint though, the first 11 squad numbers must be important players in the managers plans. Shouldn't they?!
